Top Hinged Side Cargo Windows??

^ No Doubt, lost some tech in there too. As I stated above, I have zero interest (and I think most others would agree) in a version that utilizes the existing side mounting locations. It would be way too easy to run into it at night or just while not paying attention potentially breaking a $800 window and damaging the other parts. The only solution that would fly for me is something similar to the 60 series one where the windows open upward and out of the way. If you guys are anything like me you keep your tail gate and would probably keep these open for extended periods while in camp.

Hard to say by this photo but It looks like there may be plenty of potential existing mounting locations. That's the biggest hurdle I see making this happen.

I gotcha on the existing hinge and agree. I think it was originally thought of as a way to just cut some corners and do it a bit easier.

Use whatever material is used on the Freedom Window instead of the OEM glass. I still do not really need a window on one side so I would be good with a thin sheet of that UHMV stuff in place of the window. I then could have vertical cutting board, as well. :meh:

If it happened, a formed piece of black UHMW would be OK, not sure about your intention as a cutting board, sounds risky......But it would add some rigidity and strength for those unintentional tree hits. The main reason I prefer glass is not to still see out of it, (5% over factory makes that pretty difficult already) but to maintain as close to the OEM look as possible while not drawing attention to it. I think the most important thing would be to have a completely interior mounting/hinge system. That SA design while looking ugly is also just waiting to get ripped off by typical vegetation and accidental encounters with rocks/trees. I could see it as a source for wind noise too.

Yes, the rear windows have a pretty good vertical bend to them... so using UHMV might require some heating and forming... or custom.

If one of these were to happen, I think I would only buy one if:

1. It maintained the motorized vent currently there and
2. if it had the same fit and finish as the 60 series that Wagon gear made

that is very cool. What is the turning mechanism down by the wheel well? Is that unlocking the window, and why is it located so far away?

Yes on the locking mechanism. No idea why it is so far away. I would rather have it up high near the glass or hidden somewhere or remote control. (I was driving a new mini van all last week and everything was remote control on the key, that part was sweet. The mini van was terrible. Chrysler Town and Country with the new 3.6l pentastar v6 and had no torque what so ever and it was always searching for gears.)

Someone please get Kevin a rear Quarter. JGray, do you have that mangled remains of yours? It may be good enough for what he needs. I'd be willing (others too probably) to pitch in with shipping.

Or is there any 100s near him. We could run the same play like we did for the DT headers. Maybe pay for a rental car for someone for a little bit if need be or let them have a discount on the windows.

I don't have any of the old parts left. The window was destroyed so I got a new one with a new rubber seal and had the dents pulled out. The rear quarter panel was painted and blended to match. It's really impressive how great everything came out. I wish I had taken more pictures while it was in the shop. I checked on it before picking it up last week and was so amazed looking over the work I dropped the ball and forgot pictures and to ask for the old parts....

I'm still very interested in the project. Hopefully all the brilliant minds on here can help engineer something oemish with the function we would all like to see.

I want a tailgate lid too!

The tailgate lid is indeed awesome, I saw sever 60s at CM with it and it is top notch. I prefer my cuttingboard top (courtesy 1loudLX) but I can see how people would get great use out of the extra storage.

I'd be all over this.
I like the tailgate lid but i prefer the carpet for my dog to grip when jumping into the back. HDPE is slippery.

Talked to Kevin at OX12. Great guy, and the product looks even better in person. All he needs is a rear quarter or a loaner and it will happen. Someone break out the sawsall at your junkyard. We have plenty of folks willing to pitch in on shipping.

Any idea on price or time frame from Slee....just so I can start saving. This will be a must have.
