How many miles did that take Mark?

I do not know. This is one of the transmissions that I got when I bought out Midwest Landcruiser lock, stock and barrel in 1990.

Subscribed. All mine had was butchered wiring and the battery tray was attached with wood screws. No photos.

I didn't take any pictures in 1991, but some PO thought fibreglass over rust was a good way to patch a rusty tub. Then braze sheet metal over the rusty 1/4s. Next glue carpet over the inside of the 1/4s to hide the shameful work... and maximize the decay rate.

Looking back I should've kept looking. Live and learn :D

This isn’t necessarily a bad repair or engineering fax pax, but anyone who does something like this is primed to maybe do worse ..........

In the first photo is the U bolt at a slight angle towards the outside and is the spring perch welded to the spring? Looks like the same type of weld there as well. Could be dirt?

You know, I cut the shackles off and set that axle to the side. I will have to look at it now to see. Would not suprise me. I have cut a corner before, but that is a whole new level.

This is how the original owner of my ‘64 FST dealt with an unneeded brake line tap when he removed the trailer brake controller. No way I let anyone roll in this rig with this in there. Anyone got the early line I need to go direct from the master to the junction block at the LF wheel?

Maybe, just maybe, I have an NOS one. When we get to your brake stuff...

If you spot one in the next few weeks, either NOS or good used, please make note of it and set it aside for me, Mark.

Still have trouble imagining how anyone could think that crimping that line over like that was a good idea, especially on a single circuit system. Of course, for the last few years of use before it was parked, the only use this rig had was for the owner’s grandkids to drive around the hills on his spread!

Funny, that's what the PO said.

Haha very true. It’s sitting at the moment and probably will for the next few months. Nothing wrong with it just getting ready for our first baby. Cruiser time is about to go down to about ten minutes per month haha

I’ve got the parts for replacing the 3rd now. Just need to find time.

Allow me to contribute to this titillating thread....

I just tore down an H42 mated/adapted to a 3 speed transfer case. It was on CL, it was cheap and I'm not crying...

Seller said it was "noisy" and popping out of gear. For one, the transfer was BONE DRY and must have nearly caught fire from the cooked looking grease all over it. Along with the absence of lubrication, the idler shaft retainer broke allowing the idler shaft to float all over. Here's the input gear. Note the seriously chewed up contact surfaces on the gear and the blown out chunks on the rear....

Nearly the whole case looked like this, chunks of metal all over. And lastly, the poor melted speedometer gear with a good one next to it for contrast. How does one get to this point and still keep driving it?????
