Check the power steering pump and the water pump.

The water pump is pretty new but you've put on as many miles as I did while I owned it. I suspect that it failed for me because of the angle of the belt torquing the bearings funny. The belt angle is funny because of the funky power steering pump bracket, which I suspect was Lance's prototype. I've been worrying about it ever since I replaced the water pump. I think I told you about it when you picked up the truck, but now I'm doubting myself...

If the water pump has failed again, I recommend a new IPOR power steering pump bracket.
 
I have one of IPOR's saginaw power steering pump mounts on my 55 and one on my 60...I love 'em...

Winch no workey.

8274-50 will 'click' if I try to pull line in our spool out but the spool will not turn. I can free spool line in and out by hand so the spool is not locked up. I have good power and ground connections to the battery...wondering if a solenoid is going bad or if I have a bad/loose connection inside the winch - will try to open the winch up this evening.

That winch motor was seized up when I went to use it one spring. I took the cover off the motor, sprayed some dielectric grease in there, and hit it with a broomstick several times to free it up. Worked fine after that...

LOL :grinpimp: I think I can handle that. Sounds like the winch needs a good tune-up after next weekend. I'm not too worried about getting it going for the Pumpkin Pig Run as the trails are not horribly difficult but you know how it goes...if you don't have it you will need it.

I'll try to snap some good pics tonight of the spare tire rack. I have some mods to still make to the latch area. I'm adding a McMaster Carr latch, IPOR poly bushing, support and some angle iron.

Had to work late last night so I didn't get much work in. I was able to clean up the factory floor mats and I think they will fit OK with the IPOR bucket bracket. Also came home to find my rear heater leaking coolant from under the dash. It looks like replacing some of the factory hose clamps with modern hose clamps fixed that leak. Hope to get home today at a decent hour and install floor mats and some insulation and finish hooking up the rear heater.

Nothing too fun to repot. CB fixed and working - rear speaker boxes patched and installed but stereo does not work so have to look into that. My stock floormats cleaned up very nicely and fit pretty well with the IPOR seat brackets. The floor mats look so good I'm considering selling them.

I might still have a very slight leak where my rear heater hoses hook up under the dash. There was a very small puddle of coolant on the passenger floorboard but I'm hoping this was just from residual that flowed down the hose from my big leak yesterday.

Its getting dark so early now that I'm in a crazy rush to get things done before the Pumpkin Pig Run barely a week away. Hopefully a friend is coming over this weekend to help adjust my valves to cure my crappy sounding motor. Hope to get a couple of hours in tomorrow.....
 
Few things done in a rush last night. Front floor mat installed w/ some foam underneath. Rear heater seems to be sealed up tight finally. Rear carpet installed with some padding but that carpet is D-I-R-T-Y so I need to pick up some new. I hope a carpet shop can cut a piece to a pattern I provide and seal the edges somehow so it won't unravel. Rear speakers were buttoned up. Did some packing for Pumpkin Pig Run.

Tried this morning to make sure a Jerry Can I picked up from a surplus store was clean inside so I don't contaminate my Piggie's tank. I sloshed some fuel around inside and am letting it sit. The can seals very nicely but does spew out a little gas when you open it under pressure. I don't have a holder installed on the Piggie but might strap 5 gallons of gas on the roof rack just in case. Hopefully I won't get too tippy if I do that.

Ordered some parts from a dealership - new plugs, air filters, fuel filters, PCV valve, oil pan gasket, rear main gasket and a bunch of drain plug gaskets.
 
Howdy! I carry my spare on the roof, even on the trail, so "tippy" is not really a big problem. On the other hand, I don't know if I would want gasoline over my head, especially since every jerry can I've seen does vent a little every once in a while, regardless of how well it seems to seal. IMHO. John
 
Thanks John. Maybe I'll just wait until I get my rear rack finished to carry any extra Jerry cans. There is a gas station close to the trail head so I'll fill up there with gas and keep my fingers crossed.

Got my rear floor mat installed and some foam/foil insulation installed below it. I don't know if its the mats or insulation but there is a HUGE difference in noise inside the cab. Reinstalling some door weatherstripping probably helped also.

I'm trying to track down my 'mystery' engine noise. I took the Pig for a very short drive yesterday and it came back but not as loud. I'm thinking a longer run time is necessary. Will check that out today.

I will have 5 gallons with me Steve. I didn't use it last time so if you need to no problem.

Don't worry about the winch. I have the tools to service it in the field if we get bored :).

Otherwise, I have mine, several others along...no problem.

The more you talk about the noise changing as you get warmer/run longer the less likely it is to be the water pump, pulleys, etc and more likely to be valves out of spec getting warm and chattering. I hope the guys can help you tomorrow.

I fixed everything on the Cado today (well, removing a driveshaft and waiting for the new one to get here counts I guess). Speedo hasn't been tested, but I cleaned it with contact cleaner and reseated the connectors (it had stopped working). Also fixed my LOUD AC idler pulley (replaced). Cado is nice and quiet and will be ready to roll. Will also be hitting a local shop to clean/reseat the bead on the DS rear Irok...I think I gunked it up last weekend.
