Weekend Update
Got really close to getting it going today. Verified the dizzy was in right and for s***s and grins ordered a Flame Thrower coil to compliment the pertronix I got from Barry A to be sure my ohms were right.
I had all the tail lites working and then got hit with a gremlin and lost brake lights. No worries. I will get back to them later. I did have an issue with my reverse light. Got it all wires back in and discovered there was no place to plug the switch in. I plugged it in to the wires exposed by the transfer case and Tah-Dah, the 4WD indicator on the dash came on. Not sure where the spot is to plug the wires of the switch into the loom but I will probably end up cutting it near the transfer case and plugging them in there.
Now here is the fun part. I got the gas tank in. As discussed in
this thread, there are few solutions for converting your British threads to American or something more practical but I found the solution I liked.
I purchased some parts from Jegs and from
www.DiscountHydraulicHose.com to do the trick. Jegs is wierd and I will probably not order from them again. They sent everything one at a time Fed Ex anf I am hoping I do not discover I have paid for each trip. The sent a $369 part FedEx by itself - $12 shipping!!! Not good business sense if you ask me.
The Fuel line is Pro-Flo200 Series Braided Hose in a 6 foot length for -6 AN fittings part #555-100911.
Then there is the 90 degree Max Flow Swivel Hose End in -6AN part #555-100021 and the very cool Auto-fit Tube Mate to convert 5/16 hard fuel line to -6AN, part #361-360165.
Finally is the all important hydraulic hose fitting to goo from 1/4" BSPP or Whitworth thread to -6 AN. Part 9009-06-04.
This is about where Roger starts laughing at me as the investment was rather large in comparison to other more obvious repair methonds but I always wanted to use some of these cool anodized godamners.
So I did some research on the whole -AN thing and what I learned is that "AN" stands from Aeronautical Standard and is a flare fitting that is just like "JIC" or Join Industry Council offered by the discount hose folks at 37 degrees instead of the standard 45 degree flare that you would use in your basement or kitchen. -AN sizes are based on 16th's measures so -6 AN is 6/16 or 3/8. 5/16 tubing (about the size of the hard line in the 40's)is therefore -5AN. So if you want to do this, -5AN would be right but -AN fittings mostly come in even numbers although some -5AN fittings are available and 5/16 JIC fittings from the Hose Folks. Get it? Good.
So I test fitted the adapter on the tank and was elated that it fit.
And set about cleaning the outside of the tank a bit. I kicked myself for not bringing it down to the local radiator/gas tank place to have it boiled stripped sealed and painted there since it has been sitting on the garage floor for months but screw it.
