I have done the bottom half of my rig about 5-6 months ago & w/in the next couples weeks will do the rest. For those of you that have went back @ a later date & finished lining the rest of your rig, any special advice to making it blend well?

Used the harbor freight popcorn gun to shoot mine with Als over two years ago and am very happy with it. It took 2 kits that I got on sale using some AA coupons, total said and done was $189. Make sure you let it "cook" for five minutes after mixing before you start shooting or it will run and clump.

I am almost where you are. My plan was to line my roof of my dark green 80 with a whit or tan or gray. But i also need to paint my hood. So i could line the roof paint the hood. Or pain the roof, paint the hood. Or line the whole thing. My head is spinning a little.

Go with white. The difference in heat on a bright sunny day is amazing.

I got my paint chips in today...can anyone confirm the closest color to the factory paint (Desert Dune Metallic)? I've got paint code 2AB if that helps. From the samples I got, it appears light quartz grey is somewhat close but a few shades darker.

Your guy Sprayed it on? So obviously he had to thing the sh*# out of it because mine was like rolling on cold coagulated latex house paint. I'm going to say that it's the application. I didn't care for monstaliners customer service for sure, but I've beaten my monstaliner vigorously with tree limbs and car doors and gravel and running directly against hill sides going down carved out trails and I don't have a single chip or gouge. Your guy obviously didn't follow the directions to the T since it was sprayed on, and I would venture to say he used standard methods of surface prep for a nice paint job and not for monstaliner specifically. It is very important to thoroughly wash the surface, and use the prescribed cleaner to clean the surface before scuffing. The scuff pad provided is essential to provide a good mechanical bond between the paint and liner, that's why it's relatively coarse. And thorough cleaning after the process as well as removing any loose substrate and proper bare metal prep is also very important. I'm not saying monstaliner is the best thing since sliced bread, but your one unsuccessful case done improperly by someone who does high end paint doesn't invalidate the thousands of successful jobs and reputation for being a tough product. I would probably buy Raptorliner if I did it again, not because there is anything remotely wrong with monstaliners product, raptor liner is nearly identical in composition for their tintable version and it can be sprayed on to a light orange peel nearly smooth finish without heavy thinning resulting in compromising the integrity of the product.

Gotta concur with this. A year+ on and the only place I've had any issue at all is around the hole where the rear window washer mounts, and when it chips off it's obvious that I didn't rough it up enough (the paint is still more or less shiny underneath).

ML's customer's service is definitely s*** though. Was fine with my initial questions, radio effing silence when I had a couple concerns about the application process.

I received my two gallon kit of Monstaliner a couple weeks ago. I had no problem communicating a couple times with magnet man who, btw, turned me on to a coupon code that was expired and had been offered on a jeep forum. I also had a fine experience with the guys who answered a question about the online ordering process, which I screwed up and they corrected for me on here own.

Hey uscmas412 - not sure what the closest color to desert dune metallic is, but I can show the contrast between it and Desert Tan. For several reasons, I decided to paint my desert dune metallic LC in 2 separate sessions. I did all but fenders, doors, and rear panels in the first session. Drove around town for several weeks with a two-tone finish.

The only spot I had to blend in was just above the back corner of the rear windows.

I’m happy with the result. There is a very slight difference in color where I blended the paint, but you have to be right up on it and looking for it.

@haze1964 can you please post some close up pics of the door handles ? is the product you used monstalined ? rolled or sprayed ?

Great job !

Haze, final product looks great! Did you have to replace the gasket for the rear window or is it reusable?

Thanks guys. I'll take a photo of the door handles when I get home. Debated using the liner on the handles, but decided spray paint would be much easier. Went to Walmart and found the color that was the closest match. Handles are a tad darker, but I actually like the look. I'll take a shot of the spray can too.

My rear window was knocked out in a hailstorm, so I bought a replacement from deathvalleypaul (one of the best sellers I have dealt with on any forum). The gasket I had was pretty rotten, and the one that came with the window had a few issues, so I bought a new one. Can't recall the price, but I remember it was not cheap. The smashed rear window was one of the reasons I painted in two sessions. I wanted to paint the tailgate before I put the glass in, but wasn't quite ready to pull the fenders and have the holes welded up.

Here is a close up of the handle and a pic of the paint I used. Sanded the handles down, applied a few coats of adhesive promoter, and then several coats of the khaki paint. Pic is indoors, so it’s hard to see the color contrast. Added another outside pic below that gives a better idea. Hope it helps.

Did you remove the door handles or just mask them off? Looks great!

Hey beachboyy, I would love to swing by and see that thing in person if you dont mind? I am the guy you bought the 92 AC condenser from. I have a bunch of raptor liner and so far have don the engine bay and the inside, but I am kinda holding back on the entire exterior because I have so much money in this thing now I kinda want to paint it. I would like to see it up close though to decide.
