The Defender platform is pretty cool but i’d take a built 60 series over a D90. Did some work on this Sonoran and TD5 conversion last year.

Spotted whilst waking around Covington, Ky.

I very nearly bought a new Defender 130 ute in Australia in about '06. But after diving it for about an hour I realised the ergonomics were terrible so I bought my 05 Hilux instead.

Seeing that hi roof makes me want to put my RTT on my 40 (now that I have a stabilizer bar).
I had it all kitted out in the back with sink, bed, fridge, stove, etc. It was a lot of fun.

I forgot about that. It was a fun Cruiser. Do you have any idea where it is today? Have you shown folks your newest project?

I’m thinking that you need a trailer to pull behind with the RTT on top but I’ll have to ride in it when you get to CO this summer to see how much it leans with the sway bar. I’ve never felt a Cruiser lean so hard and not tip over. Impressive.

She is phatt on the bottom.
I won’t scare you so bad this year, I don’t think. Much improved.

I sold her to a guy in Wisconsin in '14. We kept on touch for a few years. He wound up removing the hard top and doing a Paki soft top. He cut off the rails on the side and put factory wheels and hubcaps as I recall. But I've no idea where she is now.

This thread IS my newest project; nothing as involved or as cool as yours was but at least it's moving on the right direction.

I thought that you traded the 43 for a camper?

No, I do still have the camper trailer but it's too big to tow with the 43 (8300 lbs). That's what the Duramax is for. Next will be an enclosed car trailer to haul the 43 out west for fun stuff.

@Chamba here’a your right hand drive, looks like a bargain price at first glance too! Hurry up though.

Shame it's an automatic. 'Last 2 minutes' will likely see it go high. I'd love the axles out of it though. But it's too expansive to be a parts rig.

Honestly if I never own another 2H I'll be fine with that.

Back to Cruiser progress:

Vapour barrier on. Very nice product and WAY easier than last time I did this and made them myself. Thanks @GA Architect.

Door cards installed. Very, very nice. Bit of careful measuring for the clips and it's a close to perfect as it's possible to be. Thank you @a1500ram .

I've got some 40 series window cranks somewhere..... just need to find them. Still need to get some factory screws for the door pull: the Pakis used...... something which kinda-sorta fit.

Ran the buffing wheel and compound over the 8274-50 plastic cover to see whether the oxidation would come off. Turned out nice.

Still a bit sore that the JoeTLC winch plate is SO small- how much money could he possibly have saved by skimping on 4" of plate?! But I'll weld a couple inches of 1/4" stock on either side to give the winch more platform before I actually use it; I'll use the winch to get it in the trailer to take to @cruisermatt when I ever get the call, but that's not going to put a whole lot of stress on it.

A bit more cleaning up wiring for the seat heat and stereo and she's ready for the new drive train, air con/heat, axles and brakes.

The gift that keeps on giving....

So my factory Toyota fj40 window cranks from the local dealer (still available, amazingly: thanks for the heads up and part number @sadovnik ) don't fit my new 'factory' window mechanism from Indonesia. The recess in the handles isn't deep enough. The threads align, but the splines aren't deep enough to allow the clip to engage.

Has anyone else had this issue?

On a positive note, the Paki Pig is going in to @cruisermatt 's Cruiser Spa on 18 May.

I've also sanded and painted the slider window frame for the left side. So once it's reassembled I'll only need to find the right side.

Try it without the white plastic beauty ring. Looks to me the old ones (indent print) were much larger diameter and perhaps a lot thinner.

My understanding is that those window cranks will only work on 1975 regulators. Here is a bad photo of the splines on my 1975 >>View attachment 4130331
Yup. That's the issue. That's definitely the way the female side of the handle is designed. I didn't realise they changed through the years. Bugger. Guess I should have looked into that one a bit more. Bloody hell. Shame; damn nice quality.

Anyone want to buy a pair of factory window cranks for a '75 40.......?
