Scored today! Bought a 2nd hand Eezi-Awn Manta 270 awning. Which works out perfect because I was after the Bat or Manta. Got it for a pretty good deal. I guess I can cross that off my list now!

Oh ya and I just enrolled in a Wilderness First Responder course here in Wyoming, prep for my future venture. :)

Do you have a link or more info on the camp table? Thx!

I absolutely love it by the way, don't know how I got along without it all these years. I have a fire holder in my front yard, I use a Front Runner BBQ on it sometimes, like tonight. Yanked my table down off the roof rack this evening and was in camping heaven while I preped and cooked. Zero rattles too when mounted and my driveway is gravel and full of big pot holes so it's a good test.

Just bought real nice seat covers, front and rear. They were real expensive at $215 each but I am not a fan of cheap seat covers that don't last. Also got my mounting brackets for the FR roof rack to mount the awning in route. Awning should be here next week. Last bit, I picked up a switch for the LED light bar from Slee.

Very nice setting! Could you please post a photo of the Manta Awning rear hatch open? Can you leave the rear hatch open? or does it put too much upward pressure on the awning? Thx!

I had the awning set up over the weekend but forgot to take the pic you are requesting. Rear hatch does not interfere with the awning at all. I am going to yank the awning off my truck until I leave on my trip, no need for it to be up there until then as camping season is over here.

My impressions of the Manta are good so far but there are a few places that need attention. Such as the steel shelf that holds the arms for the awning, this could rub a hole in the canvas over time. I will attach some rubber to it to stop this. It would be nice if the legs dropped to allow slanting down of the awning on one side or the other but due to it's design this is not possible. It is not the best awning for windy conditions, you can stake the legs to the ground but that is all out of the box. I am going to drill a few holes in the support arms so I can secure it better with rope to stakes. Eezi-Awn rates it for 30-40mph winds in the out of the box form, with some guy rope tied off it will be much stronger in wind.

I am half thinking of mounting up an ARB awning I have to the other side of the roof rack. Not sure if I will or not but I am thinking about it.

Fitted Escape Gear seat covers last night. Wow these are super awesome! Fit like a glove, very well made. I like them a lot.

Next mods-add ons will be sliders, Slee rear bumper, drop down slide for the fridge and Front Runner drawers. Probably doing DT headers and exhaust too. That is the last of the big purchases for me in this build. Got some roof rack items to buy, some lighting and wiring to do and not a lot else besides maintenance. I am out on a long long trip in the truck in 2 months, 3 worst case scenario. So keeping the build some what basic. Would like to do a new stereo and will do that too, have one already just not sure if I want to use it. Plan to add GPS but keep it simple and affordable. Last item I may buy is a tailgate storage lid set up, several on the market. That is about it for me and this truck.

I,

Just got off the phone with the laser cutter night foreman. The second run samples are ready. I will take all previous samples with me tomorrow to Salt Lake. If its all good they will be finally ordered and I will have a firm lead time. Hopefully 2 weeks.

If your still interested that is.

J

I am still interested, just been super busy. Put me down for one, I am good for it.

Cheers

Since you are planning for a long trip south with this truck, I'd suggest you NOT to mod the OEM exhaust system... It will give you grief in places where you won't be able to repair it properly. OEM exhausts are more reliable and even though you might loose some HP with them, reliability is key when you are in an unknown area (unknown as in not familiar with the repair shops, repair materials, parts shops, etc)...

Just my two (worthless?) cents after traversing all of South America in an 80 Series with an aftermarket header (guess what was the ONLY mechanical thing that gave me grief in all my trip)....

Totally envious of your build and future trip, you will have a blast!

Right on, thanks for the advice. I did however do 25,000 miles in my Tacoma with Doug Thorely headers and Jardine exhaust. Zero issues with it. I am planning on the same brand headers for the 100. What brand did you have?

Cheers

Well if you already have great experience with the DT then you shouldn't have any issues. I've heard great things about them.
I didn't use any known performance brand, just a custom built one in a local muffler shop. Probably that was the root of the problem!
I had some issues on a 70 Series we used to race in, also with custom built headers (not the same shop).... So those experiences left me weary of modifying the OEM exhaust systems.

Looking forward to reading your trip report!
