Pretty much on the home stretch for the build now. I have the following in route,

-Slee rear bumper w/jerry can carrier.
-Slee full skid plate kit.
-Safari snorkel.
-Slee step sliders.
-OME 2864 rear coils because this truck is going to get real heavy real fast.
-Weathertech Floor mats.

I will also be swinging through Stockton in about a month, will stop by Valley Hybrids to get Harrop e-lockers f&r and a brake upgrade installed.

And that is about it for me and this build.

Cheers

In case I didn't really mention it in the thread before....

I have sold everything I own besides the UZJ100 and what fits in and on it. In less than 4-weeks I am packing up the Cruiser and taking off to drive to Tierra del Fuego! I have a friend joining me on this adventure, a Latino whos name is Roy Morrill. We will be off-roading, kayaking, fishing, surfing, rock climbing, backpacking, white water running and mountaineering our way south over the next 1-2yrs. While we travel we will be doing a number of video series on the trip and about life on the road in Latin America. We will also be building an adventure tourism company as we go that uses Land Cruisers as our base vehicles. We have secured a handful of sponsors for this trip including;

-TRAK Kayaks
-Adventure Medical Kits
-Stohlquist WaterWare
-Seeker Fishing rods
-Big Agnes
-XS Power Batteries
-Total Chaos Fabrication
-Valley Hybrids & Cruiser Brothers

I of course will post some pics here while we travel but the full adventure could be followed over on ExPo,
Overland Adventures - the journey to a new life - Expedition Portal

The trip begins on January 1st and I plan to be in Baja by the second week of January.

Cheers

Awesome!

This is awesome! I'm hoping to follow your tracks one day. I think leaving your dog has to be the hardest part though. I read you took him/her on your Panama trip, why not this trip? Did you have trouble taking him/her through borders in Central America?

If you want to follow in my foot steps one day why not come on down for some seat time in the Cruiser in 2-4 months from now!? I am totally serious, we will be selling cut rate trips as we explore, all inclusive with experienced guides. If you have not traveled by vehicle in Latin America before it could be a good way to get familiar with it.

As far as my dog, ya he has been to Panamá and back twice by road. He is fired up right now and ready to go. I just can't do it, he is 14yrs old now and even a 3-week stint for him in Baja two years ago was hard. Long hours in the truck, hot climate, forgien dogs/disease/food and more is what would await him at his old age on the road. The last trip to Panama in 2011 was hard on him, he got a Central American strain of kennel cough that almost killed him. I promised him after that trip I would never take him on a trip like that again. He is still very healthy and active but has lost most of his eyesight and hearing. That is not why I am not taking him though, it is because I will be doing multi day trips in kayaks or other activities away from the truck for days on end he just can't go on at his age. It limits me in what I can do and where I can go and he has already been there and done that a few times. He has had a great life of adventure but I am going to let him retire now and enjoy his last years in peace and comfort with a very good friend of mine who has other cats/dog that my Buddy enjoys and likes. It breaks my heart but this is how it has to go down.

Cheers

Ian -
Georg and I are so happy to be able to support this adventure in a small way - not just happy but honored. We have seen a few "expeditions" come and go - everything from the uninformed/unprepared to the corporate "look at how cool we are" ego-fests. You guys are doing it right, I think. Mall-crawler, indeed not. Please keep the posts and videos coming. We shared this exciting adventure with our friends at Terrain Tamer and they were well taken with the vision.

As for the dog.....words fail me.

Happy trails!

PS - I am planning a visit to Stockton for EOY inventory/accounting with Georg. Hope we can synch up.

Thank you Ward, that means a lot to hear-read that. I am throwing it all into the wind, a 20yr life in Wyoming, 17yrs of being self employed, all my possessions, my dog...letting it all go. I crushed what was left of my precious 1983 Nissan Patrol rock crawler last weekend, that was kind of hard to do. It has taken me 5yrs to get here, I am not even sure I am ready now but when are we really ready for something like this? There is only one way I know of to make something happen and chase a dream and that is to just go for it, 100%. My company I have owned for 17yrs I started with $50 and grew it into a company that did very well and supported me and my lifestyle for 17yrs. If I can do that, I can do this!

I will be in Stockton the weekend of January 7th, it would be cool to meet you for sure! I am for sure looking forward to seeing that old 6x6 Pinzgauer, I have a lot of fond memories with that truck.

Cheers

I get it Ian. Have taken a few 'mulligans' in my life.

Also aiming for the same time frame in Stockton, probably arriving Thursday night or Friday.

The Pinz is something special. I knew Mike Warn in high school - pretty good friends for a while - have not seen or talked to him in many years, but the racer brings back some great memories that involved Jeeps and bourbon.

Sounds like we will get to meet then!

That is cool about Mike, small world. He called me once in 2003ish when I first had gotten the Pinz. He din't know it was in the USA and I had pics of it on my website so he just called me. We chatted about it a fair amount. He wasn't able to bring it in after the races in Europe because it wasn't 25yrs old yet. So he had sold it in Europe and that was the last he knew about it. A guy named Vince who is pretty famous over there for off-road instruction and racing owned it for awhile. I was the 2nd owner after it had been imported. It still had stickers on the doors from racing in Morocco! I don't know of many if any other Pinzgauers out there in the world with the kind of history the Warn Pinz has or that is as well documented. I did a writ up for Warn and provided pictures that is on their website, this was after Mike had sold the company. I am stoked Georg got it because it needed a home like he gives it. I did a lot of R&R on that truck and it is some seriously cool engineering that went into it.

Article in 1994 4Wheeler Magazine on the first race it was in when Mike drove it. Pretty cool stuff!

Yes, the Red Pinz is unique and worthy of conservation. Georg and Garrett are the perfect custodians for the rig. I cannot think of a better home for it. Mike was/is a good guy. Maybe some day there will be a reunion with you, Mike and Georg - perhaps a Northwest Mogfest some year.....

PS My travel is booked - will be in Stockton Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.

Finished my stereo install last night besides a few small things. Still got to get the head unit mounted how I like and my #2 din bay is missing in action, shipping dramas in other words. Got to stuff the sub wires under the carpet and trim from the passenger seat back to the cargo area. Otherwise it is a done deal. It sounds absolutely incredible! I am super happy with it. It took a ton of time and work to get the amp fitted and mounted under the seat. I had to cut up the stock amp mounting bracket and modify it to suit the new amp. In addition there was a lot of wires to run and do. The tweeters were also major time and work to fit, I think I have upwards of 4-5hrs just in those. Had to hog out the plastic with a die grinder in the stock covers on the A pillar and also modify the stock mounts to make them fit. Really happy though, feel I did a super clean install on it and like I say it sounds excellent. I have installed lots of head units in my trucks but this was my first complete stereo install. You would probably have to pay me over a grand to do this in your truck, that is how much I don't like it or want to do it again!

Oh ya also got my scangauge mounted up real nice. I will post a picture or two of it soon.

My master control switch in the drivers door is totally wasted. I took it apart to try and fix it but there is busted plastic that can't be fixed on the drivers window switch. So I ordered a new one from Amayama, $275 with shipping included is the best price I could find on genuine Toyota. Now will it show up from UAE by the 1st!? I think it will, always get stuff fairly fast via Amayama even though they use standard post and are overseas. I have even received packages through them from Japan in under a week.

Cheers

Got rear bumper on last night as well as the sliders. It is looking like the belly skid will have issues with bolt on sliders. U-bolts look to me like they will interfere with the belly skid plate. If this is the case, I will simply weld on the sliders to my frame and dump the u-bolts. The skid plates by the way are really friggin' nice! I went aluminum on the two front skids and am glad I did, the belly skid is only offered in steel and it is really heavy.

Cheers

@RMP&O are you coming down here again .?

Yes sir I will be in Panama. All my previous trips I hauled ass down there so plan to take my time on this trip. May not get to Panama until April.

I don't have any set plans yet for a home base for the business. I am going to wander and plan to go to all countries in S. America. I am sure at some point I will set some roots but right now, no plans for that at all.

We should hook up when I am in Panama!

Cheers
