Actually coming out cheaper than I expected. Fender is available here in the states for only $420. That is a lot less than the $700+ from Amayama. Well under $2k in parts all up to fix it. So I bought a lift and new 33" BFGs too! :)

Cheers

If you now have a salvage title because of the insurance total/buyback it would be a good idea to photograph everything so that you have record of how it was repaired if you ever have to sell it.

No salvage title.

That's awesome.

Indeed. I will be taking pictures though, for re-sale purposes. Here's one, can you see $10k in damage?

Oh ya, I also bought MT RLCA and the Slee diff drop kit. I went medium all around as don't plan to load this up with bumpers anytime soon.

Cheers

Lifted 2.5" with BFG KO2's, 295/75R16. MetalTech RLCA too.

Picked up my new fender and mirror this morning. Stoked the mirror came painted, it was unsure if it would or just be primed. Drove the truck over 200 miles since lift and tires went on a few days ago. I certainly lost some power going from a 275/70R16 to a 295/75R16 but it is not bad. Caster is also out a bit, again not bad but I can tell. I may do new upper control arms to the front, I would go with Total Chaos simply because I had them on my Tacoma and loved them.

All in all, stoked on my truck a lot more now. Bunch of parts have been ordered to fix the rest of the damage and also do the timing belt, W/P and all that.

Cheers

I made a pretty big decision recently. I am taking this truck way way south into Latin America. Starting this winter. It has been a toss up in my mind between this or my FJ62 hybrid I am building, I have decided on the UZJ100.

To get it ready I am going to fit a Front Runner roof rack, some water storage, 2nd Odyssey battery and NL 2nd batt kit I have. I also have a really nice LED light bar and a Warn winch. I may sell a Short Bus bumper I have so I can put a new bumper on this truck, then fit the winch and LED light bar. I will definately do some sliders, either Slee or MetalTech. I am really not into roof racks but since I will be traveling with up to 3 other people I am going to need the space. I will be fitting the rack with a number of options from Front Runner such as the folding table. I also plan to carry a lot of gear with me, adventure gear. I will do some kind of storage system in the back too. I will put some really nice seat covers on it too, front and rear. I have a bit of LED interior lighting I can also fit to the back for camping. Finish it off with an awning and I will be set. I already got a Roadshower and lot's of overland type gear.

Mechanically, I got the timing belt and water pump to do, valve cover gaskets, CV boots and or new axles, t-case leak and not much else. All parts are already in route. I will also do some new upper A-arms so I can get the caster back where I like it. Really there is not a lot the truck needs besides all the fluids changed. I have already acquired some spare parts for the trip like oil filters and coil packs.

I am quitting my jobs, selling everything I own and heading south in this UZJ100! I have got 6yrs in my passport and over 40 blank pages ready to rock. I plan to drive all the way to Tierra del Fuego but will not be in a hurry at all. I will be taking off in December or January.

Cheers :)

Sounds amazing!
I am quite envious.
I really hope you will keep us updated on the build and when you are
On the road as you can connect.

Just sold my Short Bus bumper to a friend. So that's it, I am putting a BlueBerry on this truck with my Warn 9.5XP and LED light bar.

Cheers

I will document the build, it is not much of a build really, just a bunch of bolt on stuff. But I am setting it up to live out of for long periods of time. I have done this before so I know what I like, what I need and all that jazz.

I will do a thread on my trip once it gets started. I will be doing a road trip on the west coast first to see and say goodbye to family/friends. I am taking my two uncles who are getting pretty old down to Baja first, couple weeks with them and another 2-4 weeks doing my own thing in Baja. I will do the Altar Desert in Sonora before heading south to do the Mex200 from PV to Puerto Escondido. Other than this I have zero plans besides take my time to get to Panama, like 3-6 months.

Cheers

Did 55-60mph yesterday down a pretty nasty gravel road for 30+ miles. Have to test the suspension! Nearly got airborne off a cattle guard. So this is where I really think a 100 shines. It handles and performs awesome, hardly even feel washboard at 55+mph. Better shocks and it would be even better. I asked my passenger who had not ridden in a truck with me in 9yrs, am I making you nervous? Nope she says, if you were I would tell you and by the way she says, your truck is awesome on this road! :)

Stopped into my autobody supply shop on Friday when I was in Idaho. I can get color matched rattle cans of paint for $20. Looks like I might just paint my new fender myself and put it on! Might also use this to fix up some clear coat issues on the truck.

Going to buy a 2nd battery relocation kit from Slee tomorrow and my BlueBerry bumper. Can't stand looking at this winch and light bar just sitting here any longer!

Almost bought the rear wing power window motor at Toyota on Friday. Mine is busted, Toyota wanted $350+ for it! I pull up google while I am standing at the parts counter, punch in the part number and there it is for $235. Yup Not buying Toyota on this part!

Truck is scheduled to go into Toyota this Thursday for timing belt, water pump and valve cover gaskets. I have the parts and Toyota doesn't want that much in labor so they can do it.

Cheers

Just put a BlueBerry front bumper on my truck along with my Warn 9.5xps, stoked! Also installed the Slee 2nd battery tray/kit and my Odyssey 1200. Not mounting a compressor under the hood, rather mounting my winch control box, winch remote kit and National Luna 2nd battery kit. It will all fit nice next to the Odyssey 1200 but I will have to make so e modifications and brackets, no biggie.

The truck is starting to come around now. :)

Cheers

Looking good.

What will you do for personal protection in your travels?

Won't a 100 make you more of a target for shakedowns?

I am envious of your ability to write you're story. I have a family now and that dream is dead.

Shakedowns is part of the game, my Tacoma I drove to Panama and back twice I think was more high profile than the 100 or at least the same. I had some issues early on on those trips but got very well versed in dealing with the cops and shakedowns. Lots of travelers on the road down south and they all stick out.

As far as security, bear spray, lead headed bat, fishing gaft, Rambo knife, spear gun, flare gun, ect ect ect always made me feel armed! Haha just no guns, otherwise I carried those kind of items. It really is about how you handle and carry yourself as well as how you deal with other people. On top of this street smarts and common sense goes a long ways. It is not nearly as dangerous down south as people tend to think. Locals are always kind to me, helpful and looking out for my well being.

Cheers

Man, what an interesting thread. I just went down to Honduras for a mission trip and it was so beautiful. I am not surprised that you are taking this trip. It was interesting seeing a bunch of guards armed with assault rifles at neighborhoods or industrial buildings. While we were riding to the orphanage I saw someone casually carrying a shotgun in the passenger seat of a work truck. I didnt really feel to worried about my safety though and the people there were amazing. I also was on the look out for some Cruisers. Saw quite a few Patrols and a ton of Hiluxes too.

Still need to fab some mounting brackets for my LED bar and wire it up as week as install the NL battery monitor in the cab but otherwise it is a do e deal.

Cheers

Got a Front Runner roof rack, full length. Also got a full sized camp table on a slide for the rack. It is assembled and ready to install on my truck, stoked! Next up I think is Ezi-Awn awning, fridge slide (need drop down), sliders and some drawers in the back. The it is starting to get there. I bought an 86 Toyota pick up for dirt cheap, new 22RE in it but it stuck a valve. I am fixing it and selling to fund my rear bumper.

Just did 1600 miles in the Cruiser out to Oregon and back. Before I left I had a bad coil pack that got replaced. New accessory belt, new timing belt and w/p too. The truck ran excellent on this trip, zero issues.

Cheers

So far I like this set up! I moved camp table mount to the rhs for easier access, I had it set up at the back at first. Love the table, it is super nice! The rack is sweet too!
