Short day.

Spent the morning running wire for the dryer / On demand HW. I earned my wire pulling badge today. Wire is loose and not tacked in/up yet.

Overhead heat/exhaust relocated.

Last but not least painted a test strip. I like how the wood grain bleeds through for a rustic vibe. Going with two coat coverage.

Test strip is a Benjamin Moore offering:

Benjamin Moore
1043
Blue Ridge Mountains.

BM 1043 color blob

Wire for dryer/On Demand unit
Test strip going on wet
Test strip after 2hr drying time
Relocated Overhead unit

iPhone translation adds a heather undertone and is not representative of the true color. :meh: Although lighter, the attached color blob is closer to reality.

Given your penchant for brown, I predict that In your next life, you are going to be a UPS driver!😛

I’ve got some wire that needs pulled. Will provide beer, coffee and pulled pork(don’t expect sides lol)

I’ve got some wire that needs pulled.

Fun times..🥳🥳🥳

At one point I decided to crawl my phat, arthritic old @$$ into the overhead crawl space looking for an 8 AWG. I was not impressed with my decision.

Are you adding to the shop? When are you executing? I certainly could be convinced to saddle up, new wire chaser diploma in hand and head north. After all, someone’s gotta’ restock the cooler. 😉

Slowly adding, but this beauty showed up this week, also have to wire for the cooler.

I've pulled romex for a lot less than pulled pork.

I've also been known to do some shady stuff for good brisket.

Even a caveman can deal with romex and residential wiring, you'll be fine!

Clouds on the Horizon.

The Hall developed a bad case of project inertia shortly after the holidays. Sometimes, circumstances beyond your control grab the wheel and pump the airbrakes. Life events, and weather have maliciously conspired to throttle work on the Hall down to a trickle.

So, with abundant down time at my disposal I dusted off the “send it now” button and hit the interwebs. Picked up where I left off earlier with the Mini split research. Still somewhat undecided but I have accumulated enough digits to start making decisions.

It’s a Nor’easter. ⛈️

One morning, during a particularly rancid bout of bad weather, the Mrs and I were sharing a morning cup of motivation. Over coffee, I casually mentioned to Ms Revenge, that I was upgrading my smallish twin size bed for something befitting the Lord of the Hall. It was an innocent declaration and was never intended to ignite the feminine genome that sparks that uncontrollable urge to “gather”. My careless remark turned into a two day odyssey trekking through the unfamiliar halls of the Wayfair, Overstock and Pottery Barn web pages.

I did learn one valuable life altering lesson from the experience. Never, under any circumstances, during casual conversation, mention “shopping, closeout price or clearance sale” at the kitchen table before 9:00AM.

What started as a simple search for a a larger bed, totally skidded sideways and exited through the practicality door. So now, according to my growing catalog of Master Card receipts, I’m the proud new owner of something called “Euro shams, percale sheets and a cotton throw”.

I’m certain that these items are essential and the Mrs would not have ordered anything that wasn’t befitting my pine clad fortress of masculinity. But, If in the future, while meandering through the pages of “The Meade Hall”, you happen to spot an animal print pillow, a fuzzy throw or an embroidered sheet, it’s not my fault. 😁

I think I’ll order some new Meade Horns to bring back the balance.

You can still preserve a little masculinity. Google used sack loin cloth.

I have the antidote! Package will be en route in a couple of hours. Alpine address good?

Perfect recommendation for our Meade Hall annual “Lord of the Flies” weekend/new member initiation and ice cream social (VII).

I’ve passed the info over to our Acting Chair, Treasurer and Armorer, Yo’Barre Buhthol for consideration. After six seasons of BBQ and spirited chases, our original uniforms were feeling a wee bit manky.

“I was faster than the phat kid LOTF VII” T-shirts are free with registration. 😁

OCB has been out on sick leave for the past few days after some out patient surgery. I guess general anesthesia has the same effect on him as it does me. Apparently, while he was under, the good idea fairy came to him in a vision and now he’s remodeling his bathroom. He spent yesterday, sawzall in hand, ripping out his guest bath.

We’re heading out in the county this AM to drop off a small cache of materials and retrieve a few tools for his remodel.

Big weather is inbound here in the Land of Nod, as is a big portion of the country. Deep snow and low temps will keep us off the hill until old man winter spends his temper. That’s the beauty and the curse of having 4x4 access only camp. It keeps the timid on the paved road and acts as a deterrent for the mildly curious. In snow conditions, going up can be a challenge, coming down is a religious experience. There’s no such thing as an unbeliever in an uncontrolled slide with no guard rails and a 90* turn at the bottom of the hill.

I knew we would have an unscheduled break in the action over the course of the winter. So far it’s been manageable. I’d like to be a little farther along. I caught Ms Revenge scouting the weather report for the Florida coast the other day. Won’t be long until the urge hits her and I’ll be loading the Tundra for the trek south. I figure sometime around mid February I’ll get the inevitable warning order followed shorty by the OPORD and movement table. So far, she’s been content helping to “accessorize” the Meade Hall. To her credit, leopard print aside, I think she’s embracing the whole mid century Viking hall / meets Regimental Mess with a twist of hunting lodge…😑. I’m starting to grow suspicious.

The punch list on paper is a solid week to ten days of effort. -F* and deeper snow factored in, it will be a challenge to end the winter phase of the Meade Hall build before I’m marching south to the sound of the guns.

Semi fluid punch list, subject to weather, direction or emphasis..😁

Finish privy plumbing, currently @ 60%.
Finish electrical, currently @ 80%.
Finish up privy installation, currently at 20%.
Paint the Hall, currently @ 0%.
Flooring down, currently @ 0%.
Stove mounted, currently @ 0% but I’ve looked at it sternly..
Hearth clad in stone, currently @ 5%.

On the bright side, I have a growing trove of boxes that I’m certain contain at least one animal print fuzzy pillow. 🙄

What profession did you do in the land of Nod?

What profession did you do in the land of Nod?

22 yrs on active duty via the USMC and US Army (title 10 / title 32). After my initial tour, I worked my way through school in a cold mill/stamping plant. Then after grad, I worked as a DoD civilian before returning to active duty (Retired 2010) After my initial retirement I worked for a small defense contractor. My last and final old man retirement job, I was the Land Rehab Manager for the state military reservation (under the sustainable range program).

Made the trip out in the county this AM. Didn’t spend much time on the hill though. Moved some of the non essential sheeting/lumber/scrap to the front porch. OCB gathered up some tools for his anesthesia induced bathroom remodel.
The snow load on the “kick outs” was tested before so I’m not too concerned about the structural integrity of the Hall in general. The metal roof keeps things moving but it does pile up on occasion. Gutters and guards are in the forecast for this summer.

Regardless, everything’s triced up and battened down in anticipation of the coming weather event. ❄️

I’m in a running gun battle with OCB over the bathroom sink. I’m opting for a pedestal sink to maximize space in my somewhat smallish 8x8 space. Think visual space vice actual space. OCB, is tied to a more established convention with his ideas for a traditional vanity. TBD….

Came home this afternoon to a stack of “Wayfair surprises” piled up neatly outside the garage entrance. Hoping it’s at least fur, fish or game related. Judging by the size and shape of the package it’s probably that “awesome throw” I’ve heard so much about..🙄

This going to be the last entry into the Captains log for a few days. That is unless I run on to a dose of courage and start opening boxes.

You never know..
