I'll get back to biking someday, might be a while though.

Nice work on the carpet. Keep it up. Wish my frame was rust free..

J

Most of my frame looks like whats in the picture, but up in the front wheel wells the paint is missing or peeling off. I blame the power steering leak that I had to fix after I bought the truck. Still though, I was really excited to see that paint!:D

The second item was waiting for me when I got home tonight.

Today I got my new Hella 700FF driving lights all wired up, and I'm really happy with them!

The install was pretty easy once I figured out what I had to do, in fact, I think the hardest part was trying to find a place to mount the relay! The only thing I have to change is where the ground for the lighted switch is connected, and considering this is the first time I've ever wired anything, the fact that that was the only mistake I made really says something about how simple it was.

I ended up just wiring them directly to the battery, and not to the headlights, so there isn't any safety net if I forget to turn them off right now. (switch is connected to battery for power instead of being spliced to the low beams or marker lights, which would force them to turn off when those lights are off). I will end up connecting them to the marker lights in the future when I replace the stock headlights with H4's.

They turned out plenty bright, and they have a good spread and reach. They are effectively high beams, so I wont be able to use them on the street all that much, but when I need them, or when I'm on deserted roads and trails, I will have more than enough light output to see whats ahead. The next upgrade I make to the lighting will be a pair of H4 headlight replacements. All this for just 75 bucks, gotta love Amazon.com! :D

I mounted the lights on the front bumper in the pre-existing holes.

I mounted the switch in the blank switch location to the left of the steering wheel so its next to the other light controls, and cant be messed with by passengers. I still need to go back and find a new ground for the light in the switch though, cause it doesn't come on right now,... simple fix though.

Wires were routed through the rubber piece on the drivers side of the firewall.

I mounted the relay on the radiator core support next to the intake, right above the drivers side headlight. It took me a while to find a location that worked with the length of the wires, and this one worked for most of them. I did have to extend the wire that goes to the battery though.

The bundled up black wire is extra from the wire that runs to the lights themselves. I left it long incase I ever want to relocate the lights in the future, like to a roof rack or something.

I connected the grounds coming from the lights to the cover/"skidplate" under the radiator.

I'm gonna suggest you move the ground wires. I don't think they will last long where you have them routed. And you can splice them together and only deal with one ground point.

Jeff

These look excellent, and for only $75!! your pictures are making me seriously think about whether or not I should get an ARB.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I needed bigger connectors for that bolt anyway, so I'll just do that instead.

I have read every word in this thread (took a whole cellphone battery to do it, stupid smart phones)! Great job! As Iam inspired by your hard work, pulling up the cargo area carpet and padding has revealed the same go no where wiring as yours. I think the guy that did your wiring has a brother in San Diego running a stereo shop! I can't post a pic, the app keeps crashing, but you get the idea. Keep up the good work man!

My battery died on me this afternoon, and im 95% sure its my alternator. So im on my way to the parts shop now to get it tested, and buy a replacement if I need it.

What kind of problems were you having?

My 60 still has the original alternator. I have replaced the voltage regulator once though.

Also it could just be the battery.

Let us know!

Just had it tested, and it failed, so I picking up,a new,one tomorrow morning.

Shucks. Where are you sourcing the new one?

Crappy Kragen's is where I had it tested, and they said they could get one by 9:30 tomorrow morning. $66 with a core was a lot less than I expected.... hopefully its a match.

Get a Toyota reman if not too late mine only cost about a hundy out the door.they don't come with a regulator though it was still working.good luck on that install.

Machinst, your truck is looking good. it is great to see the younger crowd appreciate these old cars. nice to see you the transformation. i think i am going to carpet on mine as well. Good Luck! keep up the good work!

So the new alternator I got matches but the pully is different and it doesn't have a condenser.

Viper, do you think a dealer would.have one in stock? Because if so I might just return this one and go get one of those.
