You've camped in one of my favorite places in the Sierras! The Buttes are majestic over Lower Sardine. Awesome to see 60 on the road to Upper Sardine. I don't know how many times in my lifetime I've seen morons driving their Accords up that road.

Did a little work on the 60 this week. Replaced the warped front rotors, pads, and bled the brakes; replaced air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, checked fluids, topped off coolant, and oil. I also added new hood bumpers, and rubber pedal pads.

Here is a pic of the plugs I pulled out:

#2 looks filthy. Have you done a valve adjustment? I can't remember, and 13 pages isn't quick to check haha.

Did you end up getting those hood bumpers and pedal pads from Cruiser Corps? Any complaints?

I have not done a valve adjustment, but when I talked to the PO on the phone a few months ago, he said he checked them not to long before he sold it to me and that they were fine. He is a mechanic and since I already bought it from him, I don't see any real reason for him to lie. :meh:

I ordered everything from CoolCruiser's of Texas. They seem to be well made and I didn't have any problems with them. Although I ordered their "tune-up kit" because I wanted the carb diaphragm that was in the kit, and it was missing....

yeah that is what my plugs look like. I am going to wait to get a tune-up kit from Georg @ Valley Hybrid before I change mine out. Figure at the time I will also get a new valve cover gasket and to the "while I am in there" of running the valves since it will be a good learning experience.

I got the similar pads from SOR and they seem to work great. Need to invest in the hood bumpers next but figure the desmog and tune-up are of higher priority.

Sounds like a solid plan. I just wanted to get everything running a little better before the Turf N' Surf event next week. I don't want to get stranded 200 miles from home if I can help it!

On another note, my power steering feels like it is not working sometimes. It seems to be random and I cant figure out what it is, but sometimes when I'm driving, I'll go to make a U turn or turn around in a parking lot and my steering will get really heavy.

It might be time to start searching pick n pull for Volvo's..... :frown:

The power steering pump puts a load on the engine when you turn the wheel. If the engine doesn't have enough oomph the power steering will be weak. Try giving it some gas next time. The pump could be failing. But who knows.

I see talk of Saginaw conversions all the time. My pump is original and even on the trail it does excellent. You can't expect one finger steering from a 20+ year old vehicle anyway (then add on larger tires).

I've been having the same problem with my power steering on the same situations and when i give gas it gets a little bit better so i guess my power steering mis al so failing? What can i do about ir? Sorry for hijacking. Cool thread you have here! Your spark plugs doesn't seem too bar compared top mine.... i've been having carb problems and can't figure out what's the problemas.

LOL.... power what now?!
Sorry I don't have power steering on mine (PO removed it when the smog pump went as it bent the pulley so it occasionally throws the belt), but do have a replacement from Tat2Matt that will go in when I am doing the desmog and tune-up.

Can't believe its already been a year since I got my LandCruiser! I've learned a lot, met a bunch or great people, and been to a ton of cool places with it so far, and I've only just begun!
Next up is a trip to the snow, just need to find out if I can get some time off around new years.

Also in the works is a second car, possibly a miata, to save a little at the pump, and enjoy some of the great mountain roads that NorCal has to offer. (will also allow to work on my truck more and not have to worry about needing to drive it to work the next day).

Darrell, did you end up getting 33x 12.5s or are those 35s?
Great looking rig as always man!

Danny

Looking good dude.. And you are on the right track with the 4banger to save on gas mileage.. You could always ride your new whip to work and what not, but I have a feeling you have a longer commute than I do.

What and awesome cruiser!

Thanks!

Thanks! My commute is going to get much longer when I start college in January, and after driving up there last Tuesday for placement tests, I know I would hate myself If I put the landcruiser through the stop and go torture. Plus, that area is known for bad drivers....

I have enjoyed this thread thoroughly. That is a very handsome 60 you have there. You have a nice eye for photography as well. I have one of your pics as my desktop wallpaper at work now!

I love hearing that people have enjoyed reading through this thread. I originally started it to be a record of my repairs, upgrades, etc., but I never thought so many people would see it!

I went through your flickr and holy crap you have one of my favorite 60's! How many miles does your cruiser have on it?

Thanks! It started at ~186k when I bought it, and it is now at ~191k. Right now the interior is full of sand again from pismo though,... just like when I got it and whent through the interior.

Love the new pictures! Awesome truck you have there. I need to get out more and drive my beast..I cant wait until summer again!

Thanks! Hoping to take it up to the sierra's right after new years and get it in the snow for the first time and do some snowboarding. Should be a good year if this weather were getting keeps up, some resorts are opening this week! :D:D:D:D
