Howard said the driver frame rail was pushed back an inch or two. Should be straight now, and for only $200!!!

Howard is the man :D

So whats the plan now?

Shasta is back at my house now, so is the engine hoist. The plan is to put the motor in :D

Looks like this weekend will be beautiful, so it'll start then!

Little elbow grease, a little degreaser, a little steam and we've got a motor that looks super clean.

How you get those old style Polaroid pictures on a forum is magic :)

Cant wait to see another diesel 60. If you need help putting a diesel in a land cruiser, this is the area to do it. Looks great guys!

Shasta's trip back from Howard's

Guess what Howard uses to push broken vehicles around his yard. You guessed it. A Toyota!

A more accurate description would be franken-truck. That's a cab from and old ford with the frame and heart of a Toyota. Dat rebar doh

A little Spring Hope grown bull rider?

Some after pics. I am impressed with the power of the steam cleaner, purple power and a wire brush.

Into the tub to clean all the gears going back in the transfer case.

Because I'm going to an H55f, moving the transfer case means a rebuild. Pics of the process coming when we get there.

Next was to clean up the motor mounts grinding to prep for welding.

Johnny has shoes on. It's a special day.

Next - replace painted transmission mount. We'll be painting a few things on the engine. But it's got such a cool patina, so most of it will be just cleaned.

Shasta's heart rolling to the operating room.

Two things bit us in the ass in this picture.
1) should have pulled the hood off
2) the load leveler needs to be turned around or it hits the firewall.

We learned this after we had it 75% in. So out it came.

Tight fit. We had wrestle in using a jack on the trans and some ratchet straps to pull engine into alignment with the cross member.

Last few inches were tough trying to make sure everything looked like it was in the right place.

Sitting in the right position on for the first time. Cross member attach and jack under the 2h

Final check of alignment and a very late lunch. When we come back we see the engine is a few degrees off to left when........Well here, just let Johnny tell you.

So that thread seems to indicate that this condition might be normal? By the way, this is a really fun thread to follow! I can't wait to see Shasta at Logan's Run.

As weird as it seems, the angle is factory! Makes sense since we're using all factory brackets, I just didn't expect that to be the answer.

Took her out again to rebuild the transfer and stab it back in the chassis (for the last time).

Factory tilt of the transmission.

IMAG1712.jpg

IMAG1714.jpg

Got the transfer about 90% rebuilt then had to pack up for the day.

IMAG1715.jpg

Mounts tacked in place, ready to weld in.

Oh crap, I didn't even think of that!! I'll do it this afternoon, then measure the diameter of the speedo driven gear and post up in that speedo gear thread.
