Parachutists land at Duke instead of North Carolina
Lol

ESPN.com news services

Someone dropped in unexpectedly at the Duke game on Saturday.

About an hour before kickoff against James Madison, two parachutists landed at the 35-yard line at Wallace Wade Stadium with a game ball, according to a story in the Raleigh News & Observer.

The Blue Devils hadn't scheduled the event, however. The jumpers were supposed to land eight miles down the road in Chapel Hill, N.C., before the North Carolina game.

"All we know is, they must have missed their jump site,'' a Duke team official said, according to the newspaper.

UNC assistant athletics director for promotions Michael Beale told the Observer that the plane had decided to cancel the jump into Kenan Stadium due to bad weather. A break in the clouds, however, revealed a stadium and the jumpers made their leap after all. They didn't realize that they were over the wrong stadium until it was too late.

When informed of the gaffe, UNC associate athletics director Rick Steinbacher called Duke to apologize.

"In about five years, maybe this will be funny,'' Steinbacher said, according to the newspaper. "Right now, I'm just glad no one was hurt."

Guess we shouldn't have played 3rd string defense and held on to the shutout. Doesn't matter. Would rather not have the #1 bullseye on us anyway. With our schedule, if we keep winning, we'll get it back soon enough.

You can say that again! Any SEC team, ranked or not, that wins 'em all in the
murderer's row that is the SEC will be playing for all the marbles in Jan.
I mean dang, ya have to beat about 4 top ten teams to accomplish THAT.
I don't see any SEC team you can take for granted this year. UT and MSU
included. ;)

I'd even through USC into that mix this year... we do have a little score to settle though. I think our guys will be pretty jacked up to win that battle but you ALWAYS give us a tough game... don't know why that is.

Just hoping if and when we lose, it's early enough, and to a western conference opponent so we win the East. Then we'll have a chance. One loss with our schedule will get us in unless its the SEC Champ game. Two losses and it's still possible. Even Bama might end up being a high ranked team when we play them.

Tough road though. We still have a lot of games to play.

Why don't you two just toot each others horns a little more. Nothing like SEC fans talking each other up all the time. You could go 1-7 in conference and it wouldn't be cause you suck it would be cause the SEC is so tough. We get it the SEC is one of if not the best conference no one wants to be part of your little SEC circle jerk though.

No need to get sour 'cause your ACC team dropped the ball in the first week. Let them have their moment.

Hopefully it won't last long.

Sorry, didn't see the note that this was the "ACC football" thread.

I sense jealousy loud and clear. It isn't pretty.

l

Apparently Tommy likes to talk
SEC football. He called Saban
to get tips on real football.
I would suggest a review of
the very first post of this thread
to find out why this thread started.
Sorry for hijack of this CU lovefest.
Go El Cid ! :)

Its not an ACC thread its a football thread. In a football thread I would expect people to cheer for THEIR team with a little normal congratulations on good games by other teams. Last time I checked no one from a non SEC team was going "our conference is so tough blah blah blah, even if you suck your still good in the SEC blah blah blah we beat each other up all yr blah blah blah blah blah" every conference is tough, if you suck you suck it doesn't matter if you played in the SEC, and everyone gets beat up during the yr SEC fans just want to toot their horn and everyone else in their conferences horn. You all claim to dislike all the other teams and when your really all in the closet fans. If Wake wins I'll say "yeah they looked pretty good but were gonna kick your ass when you get here" and the only time I'd cheer for them is against USC or maybe another SEC team or if it improves our position. If someone in the SEC loses all we here from other teams is "man they are a really good team, that was tough, they would win like 8-9 games in another conference, the SEC is so tough" and you cheer for them any time they arent playing your team. Theres more confernce fooball spirit then team spirit its ridiculous. Maybe thats why the SEC sucks in so many other sports.

Here is another roomer to get the CU fans going....talked to a buddy of mine who went to Clemson with me and he heard from a source that since TB let the freshman have the first hand off instead of thunder and lightning(because that's how he got him to CU...promised him the first hand off if he'd come to CU).....that it pissed a lot of the team off and so they just kinda laid down and let bama run the gauntlet....Now I'm not making an excuse cause I figured Bama was better than 24 preseason and would put a hurting on CU, but it does make it interesting cause that is probably the worst I've seen CU play since they got destroyed by Syracuse back in the 90's. So we'll see on saturday who gets the first ball.

Interesting views...

Conference spirit isn't bad, and SEC football is something to be proud of. SEC fans are proud and are fine talking about it (and if there was a big 10 fan on here, they'd say the same thing about the big 10 - of course they'd be wrong)... you don't have to like it, or read the posts, but why shouldn't we express those views if that's the way we feel? You don't talk that way about ACC football because it's pretty much sucked for quite a while.

I don't want the ACC to suck at football, don't really care one way or the other. I actually like Clemson, said that two years ago in one of my first posts, have followed them for more years than you've been around and since there are so many Clemson fans in this club, would like to see them succeed. I don't wish FB misery on any of you (unless there are FLA fans in the club I don't know about).

SEC sucks at so many other sports because we are fans of our conference? Not sure that the SEC sucks at so many other sports and certainly can't follow the logic that, if true, would be the result of conference spirit?

Peace!

and.... Go Dawgs

I say BS. If ACC was the dominant conference you would be all over David and others about how dominant the ACC is. That's a fact.

I see nothing wrong with someone saying a conference is better than another. They are just stating a fact.

Since when did other college sports become a factor in the GFT?

This is football.

:D

Thats BS, Davis, Spiller, Justin Miller, and other have all gotten the exact same thing from Bowden. Why would they lay down for something they themselves got/supported in the past. Thats just stupid.

I'd say it was the worst game since UNC beat us 40 something to like 10 on homecoming in DV back in 01.

Sorry I meant that your focus on football is why you suck at all the other major sports, not because of fans.

Sorry I meant that your focus on football is why you suck at all the other major sports, not because of fans.

You make VERY strong statements that don't really hold up under the scrutiny of fact finding. I'll do some of the fact finding for you now, but it's usually better to do it before you make the statement. Just saying...

So... what's a "major sport" in your eyes? I'd say there are two really, and maybe three. Football, basketball and baseball.

Basketball... ACC is better than SEC... no doubt. Last 20 yrs, 6 ACC Champs, 5 SEC Champs. I'll give you "ACC is better but don't think "suck" works

Baseball... SEC sucks? Don't know about that. UGA played in the WS this year and lot's of great teams. last 20 yrs, 6 SEC champs, 2 ACC champs (Miami both years)

Grasping at straws to find "SEC Suckage" in "All Other Major Sports" since the two obvious ones don't seem to hold up.

How about...

Gymnastics... not that I follow it closely, but the "suck" word definitely doesn't work there. UGA, 9 wins since is was introduced in 1982, 10 SEC champs total, UGA 4 yrs in a row. Not a single ACC champ ever

Tennis... just look it up... suck doesn't apply. UGA two in a row, 6 in the last 23 yrs... Not a single ACC champion ever.

Golf... no suckage.

What am I missing? Swimming, diving, pingpong...

Wait a minute... I found one. Soccer. SEC sucks at soccer.

Here you go maybe not suckage more like mediocrity as a whole. Here are real numbers that show the ACC is better overall then the SEC.

Basketball were the best and everyone knows it and without UK holding the SEC up and supplying like 1/2 your championships the SEC wouldn't even be in the conversation. There are consistently more ACC teams ranked and in the tourney and all those type things.

Baseball we are pretty even and would be considered the 2 best conferences I think. While the SEC has one more championship you have to also think about all the times other teams were there in the finals or got #1 seeds, ACC has finished runner up 3 times in the last few yrs and has 6 more #1 seeds over the past 10 yrs.

Soccer is definitely the next biggest sport and the ACC has 10 of the last 22 championships.

Golf pretty even the Big 12 is really the best conference cause of OK St.

Womens basketball is UT not the SEC without them the SEC has no championships and the ACC has 2.

Womens Volleyball both conferences suck there.

All the olympic sports are meaningless and mostly in place so there are enough womens teams for title 9 so who cares about them nobody would go watch anyway.

So essentially what you have it the SEC is awesome in football good in baseball and golf being carried in basketball by 2 programs and mediocre in everything else.
While the ACC is Awesome in basketball and soccer good in golf and baseball and mediocre in everything else. So really that would mean the ACC is better then the SEC overall because they are at a high level at more sports then the SEC.

If that's the best you have, I rest my case.
