You better just hope you stop getting hit with injuries Steen UGA wont be able to field a team in a couple more weeks if things keep going the way they have been.

I dont know what the heck Clemson did the other night, it wasn't playing football though maybe all these easy weeks in a row will give them a chance to get their act together.
 
Yep, lost top guy on Oline and top defensive guy this week. Not good this early in the season.

Good news... we played 20 freshmen in the game and a couple more will get some plays as the season goes on. We are pretty deep and will get those guys some playing time. I still think if Stafford stays, we are a better team next year than this year.. .and definitely have a better schedule to work with. We make it this year and it will be a miracle.

CU will come back and finish around 18th. Talented team, but a typical bowden flop... he's no saban and I hate saban.
 
Clemson once again folding under hyperbolic preseason hype on a national stage wasn't any more surprising than Tammy and the school deciding to let McDaniel play.

What is perplexing though is how in the world did the superhuman backfield tandem of Wind and Rain produce a whopping ZERO rushing yards????? :lol:
 
Clemson

Went to ATL to see Clemson/Alabama. Must say wearing orange on the MARTA ride back was painful congrats to Dave and the Cocks. At least one team representin' South Kackalacki showed up to play some ball over the holiday weekend.
 
What I saw Saturday was a team that was woefully unprepared for what Alabama was bringing to the table. We all knew that the O-line was going to be a week point, but we never knew to what extent. All during the game, I remembered a quote Tommy mentioned during camp. Something like "Our O-line is getting better, but it's hard to tell how good they are because they're always playing our D-line" Well, Saturday, it looked like neither one could play worth a hill of beans.

There's still a lot on the table for this team, but the credibility for this team is gone until they can win against a decent team. If we beat Wake will it be enough? FSU? VT? Will beating an opponent in the BCS game be enough? Don't know. It'll at least take that to quiet some of the people wanting TB's head. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a doll of him hung in effigy...

On a brighter note, I've been working on some cornhole boards for tailgating, and think they came out pretty good.

USC will have to play a lot better to hang
in with the Dores. Vandy's QB had like 160
yards rushing last Thursday. :eek:
I'm hoping for a better showing by both the O and the D
in this one. Call me a nervous ninnie but Vandy had
the Cocks number last year and I see a tough out for the Cocks
ahead. Hoping for moral victory #2. :grinpimp:

I'd have to agree with you David. USC didn't look particularly sharp on Thursday (not that I can talk). Vandy should be a good game, maybe one of the better ones on TV this week. BTW, is USC trying to take over as Thursday night kings from VT?
 
My thoughts from this past weeks games.

USC has a lot of work to do if they want to compete with the big boys. A so so win over NC State without a good QB is not what they needed. Though they looked better that night than they did in the past.

UNC. Well we beat a nobody team. Barely. Not real promising for the Heels with a game like that. It wasn't televised, thank god.

On the Clemson, Bama game. I went over to a house Sat in Clemson. I was taunted the two hrs. prior to the game. There was a lot of chest high fives, a lot of beer and a lot of corn hole. I was the only one out of a dozen or so that was not wearing orange. There was lot's of yelling and screaming going on. Lots of small fights that went on that night. And as the score got worse and worse so did the language. I really wasn't pulling for anyone at the beginning. But by the second half I was pulling for Clemson to at least make it a game. Truthfully their fans deserved more than what they got Sat night. It was sad to see at the beginning of the 4th quarter that almost all the Bama fans still in their seats and none of the Clemson fans. It was no better with the fans watching the game Sat night as most left before the game was over. Heck there was me and one other watching it to the end. Most had either gone home or decided to play some corn hole.

Clemson fans need to realize they are partly to blame for the bad seasons they have had. Empty stand don't do any good for a teams morale. They are gonna have to realize they cannot give up on their team. It eventually wears on the players who feel if the fans have given up on them then why shouldn't they do the same.

I'm coming to the next Clemson game this coming weekend. I plan on drinking beer, eating some fried turkey and playing Corn Hole. I also plan on staying for the hole game and rooting for a team that deserves more from it's fans.

Marshall, I completely agree with you on this point. I always watch the games to the end and it drives me absolutely crazy to see people leave early. There are always Clemson fans who like to ridicule USC fans because they like to leave in the 3rd quarter (a stereotype instituted with the 63-17 game). Saturday looked exactly the same, I was ashamed.

If your group wants to leave early Sat, winning or losing, we'll still be in our seats (South Upper Deck below the TV booth), come on up!

UGA/Bama probably will be a great game. Tough to tell which of the big games we have will pose a problem. I'm not thinking it's that game. Bama will get better, a lot better over time, but this year will be a 3-4 loss year for them.

40 isn't for sale anymore. I'll quit trying to make myself sell it now.
 
Every teams fans leave when they are getting blown out. Ask a Gamecock fan what the 4th qtr of the 63-17 game was like, he wont be able to tell you cause he left in the third. Ask a Wake fan what the 4th qtr of last yrs Clemson game was like, he wont be able to tell you cause he left when they were down 20. Be realistic. I have sat through to the end of some s***ty games like when UNC beat us by like 30 at homecoming like 6-7 years ago and there are plenty of people who left and plenty who stayed to the end. But when your getting drilled you can't expect every fan to sit there and watch it. They payed good money for those seats and they got crap on the field for it. Maybe the team should look up there and see all their fans leaving in embarassment and step up a little bit. Don't blame avg seasons on fans leaving games early cause thats not really the case. There were still 80,000 people in Death Valley in the 4th when FSU whipped us my freshman yr.

On the bright side of things UT lost.

Rankings CFN Preseason | Coaches

1. Ohio State (1-0)
W, Youngstown State 43-0
next game: Ohio
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ...if Chris Wells is hurt for any length of time, all of a sudden the dynamic of the offense changes. Yes, the Buckeyes are loaded in the backfield, and Terrelle Pryor appears able to handle a bigger workload, but Wells is a special back who makes a great attack special.

2. USC (1-0)
W, at Virginia 52-7
next game: Ohio State (Sept. 13)
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … all worries about the passing game have to be gone after the way Mark Sanchez dominated against Virginia. The defense was in midseason form against the mediocre Cavaliers.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. this is what USC does. It wins its opening game in a blowout, and then starts to lose focus. Virginia's offense is hardly a proper test for the USC defensive front four.

3. Georgia (1-0)
W, Georgia Southern 45-21
next game: Central Michigan
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the passing game emerged against Georgia Southern. If Matthew Stafford and company starts to hum, the offense will be unstoppable.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ... the team can't keep losing key players. DT Jeff Owens getting knocked out for the year is a huge blow.

4. Florida (1-0)
W, Hawaii 56-10
next game: Miami
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … if the question marks were the running game and the pass defense, the Gators answered them by running well and stuffing the Hawaii passing game.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ... the loss of TE Cornelius Ingram is going to hurt as the season goes on, while Percy Harvin will have a hard time staying healthy all season long.

5. Oklahoma (1-0)
W, Chattanooga 57-2
next game: Cincinnati
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … everyone's healthy, everything's working, and the machine appears to be in midseason form. QB Sam Bradford had no problems running the up-tempo passing game.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. when is the hammer going to drop? Oh sure, OU will blast a good Cincinnati team, but at some point, the team will have its mental letdown game. At the moment, this might be one of the top three teams in the country.

6. LSU (1-0)
W, Appalachian State 41-13
next game: Troy
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the offensive line was terrific against Appalachian State, while the quarterbacks showed, for at least one game, that they could run the offense.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. is the quarterback situation really in place? The Jarrett Lee, Andrew Hatch debate should go on for at least the first half of the year. It's not fair to put Hurricane Gustav into football terms, but it could become a major distraction for the area and the team.

7. Missouri (1-0)
W, Illinois 52-42
next game: SE Missouri State
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the offense is going to be unstoppable. Chase Daniel was in total command against Illinois, while the pass rush was fantastic.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. uh, where's the defense? The Tigers let Juice Williams look like a Heisman winner.

8. Texas (1-0)
W, Florida Atlantic 52-10
next game: at UTEP
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … Colt McCoy played a near perfect game against Florida Atlantic doing everything right from finding the right receiver, taking off when he had to, and looking like a leader who can carry the team.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. the pass defense still gave up a ton of yards with most coming in the first quarter. This secondary has to prove it can stop a passing game.

9. Wisconsin (1-0)
W, Akron 38-17
next game: Marshall
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the offensive line was dominant against Akron. The front five was in midseason form opening up mile-wide holes and looking like the physical Badger line it's supposed to be.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. when's Allan Evridge going to have to shine? The Badger quarterback was decent, but he made a few mistakes and almost made a few others. He's the X factor.

10. Texas Tech (1-0)
W, Eastern Washington 49-24
next game: at Nevada
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the passing game was hitting on all cylinders. Everyone half-joked about Graham Harrell averaging 500 yards per game. He's going to do it.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. penalties. The Red Raiders committed 18 for 169 yards against Eastern Washington.

11. West Virginia (1-0)
W, Villanova 48-21
next game: at East Carolina
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … oh, now you're going to throw, too. Pat White threw first touchdown passes in the win over Villanova to give defenses something else to think about.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. it probably shouldn't be. This is one of the toughest teams to rank early on, but there are some big games ahead to show just how good the Bill Stewart era is going to be in its first year.

12. Auburn (1-0)
W, UL Monroe 34-0
next game: Southern Miss
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … it worked. For one game, at least, the Auburn spread offense was solid. The ground game was dominant against ULM, but ...
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. the passing game still isn't there. Teams are going to load up on the run until Chris Todd or Kori Burns proves able to make secondaries pay deep.

13 Oregon (1-0)
W, Washington 44-10
next game: Utah State
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the lines are fantastic. They might be the best in the Pac 10. The Ducks whipped Washington with their running game, and stuffed Jake Locker and company with their defensive front.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. the quarterback problems continue. With Nate Costa already lost for the year with a knee injury, it didn't help to get Justin Roper knocked out against Washington with a mild concussion.

14. California (1-0)
W, Michigan State 38-31
next game: at Washington State
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … Kevin Riley appears to be the real deal. He was strong, athletic, and a playmaker who made the Cal offense better. The same Cal speed is there on offense.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. it took too long to put Michigan State away. At home after hitting home run after home run, Cal should've had things in hand in the second half. The defense had too many problems coming up with big second half stops.

15. Alabama (1-0)
W, Clemson 34-10
next game: Tulane
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … if the Tide can play with the same energy and efficiency as it did against Clemson, it can beat anyone in the nation. John Parker Wilson played like a real, live star against the Tigers.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. was it that Bama was jacked up, or was Clemson just not into the game? It might have been a little bit of both, meaning the the Tide still might not have been fully tested yet.

16. Kansas (1-0)
W, FIU 40-10
next game: Louisiana Tech
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the defense dominated a bad FIU team just like it was supposed to.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. KU beat FIU without much of a problem, but it wasn't the perfect performance the team was used to cranking out last year. A win over Louisiana Tech would bring more respect before the big date with South Florida.

17. Penn State (1-0)
W, Coastal Carolina 66-10
next game: Oregon State
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … QB Daryll Clark was terrific completing 11 of 14 passes. If he's merely above average, the Nittany Lions could be unstoppable. The lines were in midseason form against Coastal Carolina.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. it was Coastal Carolina. Everything worked well, but this is still an untested, unknown team overall. Oregon State might have lost to Stanford, but this week will be a better test.

18. Boston College (1-0)
W, Kent State 21-0
next game: Georgia Tech
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the BC defense was fantastic against Kent State while QB Chris Crane was more than adequate. The BC formula of good defense and effective, efficient offense continues to work.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. it's not like the offense exploded against the Golden Flashes. It did what it had to do, but there wasn't much needed from the passing game and the young running backs were hardly tested.

19. South Carolina (1-0)
W, NC State 34-0
next game: at Vanderbilt
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the defense was terrific against NC State. Completely stifling in all ways, but especially against the pass, this might have been a breakout performance to throw a scare into the rest of the SEC.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ... as always, the quarterback situation is going to be an issue. The offense was fine against NC State, but it was hardly clicking. The defensive performance might have been overblown; NC State simply might stink.

20. South Florida (1-0)
W, UT Martin 56-7
next game: at UCF
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the Bulls were supposed to blow away UT Martin, and they did it with everything clicking in midseason form. That was a perfect opening game with the backups getting meaningful time and the starters getting their feet wet.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. it was UT Martin. If the Bulls do that again against UCF, then it's time to start talking about the top 15.

21. UCLA (1-0)
W, Tennessee 27-24 OT
next game: at BYU (Sept. 13)
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the coaching staff proved against Tennessee that it's already in midseason form, while the defense was terrific throughout. If Kevin Craft really did turn a corner, then the Bruins will be a Pac 10 wild-card.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. the team was hurt before, and now it's even more banged up after losing some key players early on against the Vols. Was that just a one-shot deal with all the emotion of the moment, or was that an aberration?

22. Tennessee (0-1)
L, at UCLA 27-24 OT
next game: UAB (Sept. 13)
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … the team should be much, much tighter after another game or two. The defense isn't likely to struggle too often like it did over the last few drives against the Bruins.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because ... the offensive line, one of the team's biggest strengths, struggled in pass protection. The UCLA interior was way too effective.

23. Utah (1-0)
W, Michigan 25-23
next game: UNLV
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … beating Michigan at Michigan is a strong victory no matter what the circumstances. This could be the watershed moment for the Kyle Whittingham era.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. Michigan simply might stink. The running game wasn't as effective as it would've liked and the offense had a hard time turning drives into touchdowns, but that's nitpicking.

24. Clemson (0-1)
L, Alabama 34-10
next game: Citadel
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … that might have been an aberration. Clemson didn't appear to have any energy or any fire against Alabama, and once it all kicks in, this should be the team everyone expected it to be.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. that could've been the type of loss that sends the team into the tank. Playing Citadel will help, but after a poor performance on the lines, there's plenty to worry about.

25. Illinois (0-1)
L, Missouri 52-42
next game: Eastern Illinois
The Ranking Should Be Higher Because … Missouri might just be a top five team. That's supposed to be an elite Tiger defense, and Juice Williams and the Illinois offense ripped through it through the air.
The Ranking Should Be Lower Because .. there really is no running game, at least compared to last season, and the defense didn't do anything to slow down the Tigers. It was a good loss to Mizzou, but Illinois still has to prove it can come through against a good team in year one after the breakout season.

Staying Until the End...

I have been guilty of giving up and leaving early over the years...

Last year at the Wake / Maryland game, Wake was down 24-3 with the Terps inside the 10 yard line getting ready to score again late in the 3rd quarter.

That would have been 31-3 heading into the 4th quarter. We were near a rowdy bunch of UMD fans and they were letting my group have it loud and clear. There were plenty of Wake fans headed for the exits. I admit the thought crossed my mind more than once.

With 1:00 to go in the 3rd, the Maryland QB gets picked by A. Smith (2) in the end zone and he took it back 100 yards for a TD.

In the 4th quarter, Wake's D finally dug in and the offense scored 2 more TDs, the last as the clock expired to tie it up and go into overtime.

In OT, Wake scored the 1st TD and when UMD had a shot, we knocked them back for losses on all four snaps...

Game over, Wake 31-Maryland 24. Wake reeled off 31 straight, unanswered points in just over 1 quarter of play. It was one of the best comebacks I have ever seen...

The Wake fans (that hadn't left) were going nuts and the UMD fans were in utter shock. :D

Every teams fans leave when they are getting blown out. Ask a Gamecock fan what the 4th qtr of the 63-17 game was like, he wont be able to tell you cause he left in the third. Ask a Wake fan what the 4th qtr of last yrs Clemson game was like, he wont be able to tell you cause he left when they were down 20. Be realistic. I have sat through to the end of some ****ty games like when UNC beat us by like 30 at homecoming like 6-7 years ago and there are plenty of people who left and plenty who stayed to the end. But when your getting drilled you can't expect every fan to sit there and watch it. They payed good money for those seats and they got crap on the field for it. Maybe the team should look up there and see all their fans leaving in embarassment and step up a little bit. Don't blame avg seasons on fans leaving games early cause thats not really the case. There were still 80,000 people in Death Valley in the 4th when FSU whipped us my freshman yr.

Knew it was only a matter of time before Richard chimed in on UT. Lost....yes.

Clemson on the other hand was smoked like free crack in Compton. :eek:
