To bad that doesn't tell you if/when they were drafted. I know a couple of those Clemson guys weren't drafted and I'm sure some the USuC players weren't either. The statement was drafted not in the NFL
if i'm not mistaken i'm pretty sure overall the SEC has more national championships, more bowl apperances and more players turn pro that any other football conferance.
Have to say though this has been a great year since you came along and took Richards place as the most delusional fan. It's great I tell you. Now we just need Andy to chime in.
Chuck thanks for the Fox link on the previous page, it says better about how I feel about the OBC than I ever could. It's about time someone in the media noticed the emperor is a naked doddering old fool.
And I agree with you 100% about why we are barely ranked. We don't deserve any higher ranking unless we win out including the state and the ACC champeenships. That Maryland game was an embarassing abomination but it did serve to shake up Dabo enough to get Napier-Scott outfit off their duffs and do their jobs.
All ranking has ever done for the Tiggers or the Cocks is blow there heads up and make their play fall apart.
I foresee two possibilites: CU beats NCSU and UVa and loses to USC and probably GT OR loses the ACCC bid and beats USC. That's my call. If BC loses to someone and CU backs into the ACCC then I'll have to rethink all of this.
And dohchonda I agree with you that if Garcia had some coaching and protection the Gamecrocks would be a different story this year. I still think they have the best chance against CU they've had in years for several reasons I won't belabor here.
See ya'll back here same time jamorra and we'll see what we saw.
Oh yeah. Marshall I too have wondered about Andrew's mysterious silence. Also Nate's. Hunting and fishing must be very good this year. Or is it that the Deacons and Vols SAHK?
One more thing: IIRC, and I was there at the time, USC left the ACC over basketball. They had visions of grandeur and glory and felt that having to play 4 corners against the Tarheels and madmen at Duke were inhibiting their true destiny as the world leaders in hoops. Having to play all those paltry ACC teams was keeping them from playing enough Indianas and Kentuckys to get valid high national rankings. Just my vague recollection, maybe Gundy remembers-he was there then and maybe even semi-lucid. I don't remember the 69 football team-the Haight-Ashbury phenomenon had reached SC by then and college sports no longer seemed relevant.
My apologies 1 ACC Championship, back when nobody threw the ball and there were only 8 teams, LOL. Clemson has 11 more then that. Even 1 is more then USuC will win in the SEC.
You just keep proving my point "oh the SEC is so great we have the most national championships, we have the most bowls". Quit riding other teams coat tails and win something of your own. 1 Conference Championship in over 100 yrs of football great job. Clemson has more then a dozen Conference Championships and a National Championship which is more then a dozen more reasons we are better.
Bill whats coming is 4 more W's and Orange at the Orange Bowl. We had our disaster for the yr the difference in this yr is we got it out of the way while it was early enough not to ruin us.
Just a quick, unbiased history lesson for any legitimate football thread... See you in December Teebow. ENJOY.
The Crimson Tide is one of the most storied and decorated programs in NCAA history. Since beginning play in 1892, the program has claimed 12 national championships,[1][2][5] and its seven consensus national championships rank second only to Notre Dame's eight.[6] From 1958 to 1982, the team was led by Hall of Fame coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, who won six national championships with the program.[2] Despite multiple national champions, no player for the program has ever received a Heisman Trophy, the closest coming in 1993 when David Palmer finished third in the voting.[7]
Alabama has amassed the seventh-most victories in Division I with 808,[a] for a sixth-best .711 winning percentage. Alabama has won 25 conference championships, (four Southern Conference and 21 SEC championships) and has made an NCAA-record 56 postseason bowl appearances, which includes a record 31 victories.[8] Other NCAA records include eight perfect, undefeated and untied, seasons, 21 10-game win streaks, and is second only to the Oklahoma Sooners with 29 10–win seasons. The program has seven SEC West Division titles, which leads the West Division with seven appearances in SEC Championship Games. Alabama holds a winning record against every current and former SEC school.[9] The Associated Press (AP) currently ranks Alabama fifth in all-time final AP Poll appearances, with 46.[10]
Hear hear!!
I've never known a Florida team I didn't love to see beaten.
When the South secedes again I won't participate if they include Florida. I'll just watch from Croatia until it's over.
Roll Tide, the throbbing heart of the Olde South. I'm sick to death of hearing about Teebutt.
Thanks Chuck. I appreciate your encouragement and look forward with optimism and guarded hope.
Too bad we can't have another go at TCU after the ACCC.
b
not sure who's watching but S.Car is playing No.1 Florida and the score is 14-17 in the 3rd qtr.
Need i remind you guys this is probably the best D that has been in college football in YEARS
S.Car has talent and the old ball coach is far from washed up.
Clemson better hope S.Car doesn't finish with a close game to #1 florida otherwise S.Car may come in and beat the soon to be ACC champs
at the end of the 3rd garcia made a killer Tebow type keeper to convert a 4th down. 25 in college football in passing but really needs to use his legs more
Thats why the announcer made this statement with 1:30 left on the clock, "its pretty obvious that steve doesn't think his team has a chance to win the game or he'd be using his time outs"

I agree with the announcer. I don't think Spurrier thought he had a chance to win the game since the first half.
If crocks had a go-get'em coach they'd have won that game. I don't feel good about Clemson with them, they'll have two weeks to prepare and a rep to rebuild. They've got talent and hunger. Even without dynamic coaching they may be able to pull one off at W-B against a CU team with Georgia (Tech) on their mind.
But that's OK. For a lot of recent years the shoe was on the other foot. It was by beating Carolina that Tammy was able to wash out the bad taste of a lack-luster late season and keep getting to come back the following year IMO.
Clemson looked good against a determined and reasonably capable Wolfpack team. I'm concerned that CJ's toe never gets better, I guess that's what kept him coming up gimpy over and over. He's a tough guy but he doesn't have the cut or the dig that he's had in the past. I'm even more concerned about Austin going out. Chuck (or anyone) did you ever get an injury report on him. He's the main engine of our O line I'm thinking.
Anyhoo . . . A very encouraging late season run for the lakesiders. A trip to the ACCC is pretty much a sure thing and even a successful re-match with the Wrecks is very believable. I'm very positive about CU for the first time in a good many years at this point in a season. I like a team that gets better every game and has the character (read coaching) to recover from adversity.
I'm expecting good and better as this regime moves forward.
I agree with the announcer except I don't think Spurrier thought he had a chance to win the game since after the third quarter.

I always felt that he put a lot of extra effort into the Carolina game.
In this case the shoes might be on other feet.

But in fact CU was really on cruise control most of the second half. The defense looked weak but I didn't notice many familiar names on the jerseys of the guys that were blowing protections and causing penalties.
Also the offense ran a lot of practice plays and subs. I was just saying "I wish we'd see some Jamie Harper here" when he went in and scored a TD.

Spurrier needs to get a passion transplant or give it up.
Oh yeah. Meant to say: Congrats Marshall. The Heels done good.
And btw: Sorry Steen. It's only half-time but I'm thinking you don't need to stick a fork in to know those dogs are done. Being slapped around by Georgia boys playing for Auburn is like being punked by your ex's little brother.
Bama's not looking so hot either. Maybe their hearts are just not in it now they have their tickets to the big dance.
And finally: I don't mean to demean the effort that Carolina made this afternoon. I was very proud of the way they fought. Going in I was just saying I hope they don't get embarrassed. They certainly didn't do that. They went right after 'em and didn't quit. The players that is.

Spoke too soon Bill (not that I didn't think the same thing at that point). Amazing that the defense held them to a field goal after that early 2 TD debacle. They actually played pretty well, got the penalties under control for the first time in a few years. At least there is hope... just hope it's not enough to stick us with Martinez for another year. He's gotta go!
Thanks Bill. Was a good game. AT least or Defense player really well. As well our offensive line wasn't bad. Yates again showed what a poor QB he is.
Have to say though the ACC while still being subpar against a conference like the SEC. They are a pretty level conference. I just don't see one team that rises above the rest and that includes GT.
Yeah Steen I was a bit premature, I was glad to see them tighten up in half two.
And I was way premature on Bama, they wore out MissSt second half.
I hope Ga's just having a down year, not Richt getting stale. Call it a building year for now.
I'm contrarian about ACC having mediocrity parity. I see it more that the many doormats are beginning to have football programs while powerhouses have struggled or continue to struggle.
Swings and roundabouts as the Brits say. Things change. The Tammy ouster was a good start. Booby needs to be next.
I'm hoping for more inter-conference scheduling in the next few years. I think that the traditional SEC dominance may be more mythic than actual. Pre-season rankings tend to distort rankings for the whole year IMO. The only way to beat that down is more inter-conference play. Let's stop scheduling four cupcakes before getting into the conference play.
b
Haven't seen anything on Austin, usually the injury report comes out on Monday after they have time to evaluate and the coach has time to come up with some good spin.
I don't know about the "mythical" SEC dominance. No one else is garnering NC's like the SEC, and you would think in a tough, deep conference, and the way the BCS works, that the SEC would have a tough time putting someone in the NC game as tough as it is to get through the SEC schedule undefeated, or even with 2 losses.
I do agree that more inter-conference play would be good to see, and there have been more tough games played by a lot of SEC teams recently (It helps with recruiting to get the national exposure). The other side of the equation is that other conferences don't offer the same level of competition so the cupcakes come from in the conference which isn't as true in the SEC. Of course, every year there are a couple of SEC teams that struggle, but you never know who or when, and normally it's just a couple.
You can look at bowl records as the ultimate test of inter-conference play... the SEC usually wins more games than most conferences send to bowl games.
But, I know some are tired of hearing about SEC dominance (truth hurts), so I'll stop there... Now, hearing about USC dominance... that's just funny stuff and nothing makes me smile more than watching the OBC fail miserably
S.Car turned it on in the 2nd and forced Florida to spit and sputter.
If it wasn't for a few mental mistakes this game would have been a huge upset.
I'm suprised none of the clemson fans noted that S.Car kept it to a 10pt game.
I was driving back from the mountains on Sat so i had to listen to the first two qts. I watched the last two qts when S.Car really looked like they could win.
S.Car looked like a team that was not going to let the Tenn and Ark losses get to them and for that i'm extremely proud as in past years they pretty much gave up.
Clemson had better come prepared. S.Car has a battered and bruised D that will have an extra week to get better. The guys are playing with alot of heart and that is something you can't teach them and has really lacked in recent years.
Garcia did get picked off on a play that could have given them the run for the upset...he made a few mistakes but his vision and decision making has gotten better with every game of the season. He's still one of the best QB's in the SEC and even if his touchdown stats are not there just the number of competions and yards gained (especially against such a great UF D) there is no denying his talent.
He's going to continue getting better with every game he starts. If he gets the linemen he needs there is not doubt in my mind that he won't get a few heisman votes in the next 2 years. He's got the running backs to be a dual threat team...the great recievers....he just needs a line to give him time to make the big plays. Even with the SEC having the biggest and fastest D's in college ball S.Car's recievers are giants compared the their opponets. I love the recruiting they have done with recievers the past few years and the great backs they pulled this year.
Everyone knows the line is their weak point...it's been that way for years. I'm prould of the way the guys stopped the blitz on every play this weekend.
