Had a couple of hour float with @jfz80 down the Dan river.... Slaying fish..

We came up with a point system:

1 point - trashfish - horneyheads and the like
2 points - Brim or catfish
5 points - Bass

I did okay - got 21 points, one bass, and one larger (18" or so) catfish.

Jason KILLED IT. 90 points...

Kept hearing "fish on" every time I was untangling lines and freeing snagged lures.

Great day on the river.

Plus this was dinner.

*** no fish were hurt in the making of dinner!

Was a great afternoon on the river. @WhiteTiger911 you have the Haw River trail near you for exploring. Id be down for trying a northern stretch when you are. Even a campsite or two avail on the water

Paddle Trail Overview

That's a good looking dinner haha

Sounds good to me I missed the sale on the Field and stream one at dicks hoping to see it come up again.

I used my brother in laws 10' Sun dolphin and quickly realized I needed something alittle bigger. I've only been a few times so might be a slow wet trip for me haha

Yeah forgot to mention those tacos were chicken not fish :)

I'm in a Tarpon 120 - Jason's rocking that Tarpon 140 in the picture. He's a little lighter and with a slightly narrower and longer kayak he's quite a bit faster through the water. I feel like the 120's width is good for stability but slows it down. Either kayak is a decent step up from the Field and Stream ones. Which - I"m sure are fine, but there's a lot of rocks on the Dan that you just smack into. I'm happy I spent a bit more.

Im sure I'll find all of them, I'm looking for stability over speed if I wanna go faster paddle harder right? I'll hit the rower at the gym.

I've been looking for reviews more specific to durability and if anyone has had problems with gouges or the hull giving issues but so far so good.

Those tarpons are nice but can you catch a tarpon in a tarpon :rimshot:

Ramp 55. Hatteras.

I like the basket with the rod holders on it.

How does anyone else manage their rod setup on the truck? I've always liked front number mounted rod holders, but am curious at what other ideas you guys have.

Breakdowns I put in the back and kept them held up with a bungee cord

One peice rods I take the reels off and I like to use pvc pipe with capsmounted to the roof rack (I'm cheap). Now that I don't have my roof rack though I use a Velcro strip and put them all on one side connected to each of the grab handles to hold them up.

You've seen my Schedule 40 beach setup. I quickly learned to have a second pair of rod holders so I don't have to undo them all the time! Only thing I need to do is notch the top sides to keep the rods/reels from spinning around as I drive the beach. A reel wrap would be nice, too. I might have things a little different this year - maybe mounted on the ladder or tire carrier. And maybe one of those hitch mounted toilet seats so I don't have to deal with the sand in my chair! Purely for sitting purposes. SITTING. Get your minds out of the gutter.

My 4"PVC rod tube is also seen here mounted on my roof rack. I need a larger diameter tube now that I added another rod that's about 1/4" too wide at the first guide to fit. Ugh. I guess I'll cut this one down a little for my freshwater rods.
