THat pump bushing is HOSED. I don't understand the first possibility either, filling it slow? it should be full when installed, and then the case should be filled when its assembled.

Spun bearings are caused by heat, lack of lubrication causes the heat. So his original diagnosis still may be on point.

I completely agree with you. Looks like you're in the hands of an excellent shop run by a man with lots of knowledge, strong values & solid ethics. He's never really said anything that doesn't match the situation. So I had no reason to distrust him.
trans dude said:1) When my technician is filling it he was filling it too slow trying to ground through the pump/transmission bad ground.

I'm more curious about his first hypothetical cause, either something was lost in translation or this went completely over my head, but if I am deciphering it correctly it sounds like this could have caused a loss of lubrication (even if temporary) which would have created heat.
It's here nor there, I'm not questioning this guy just running my own hypothetical diagnosis based on the info you've gotten. We'll just have to wait and see, luckily it seems as though we will get all the answers based on how open book he is.
Keep it coming bud.
Don’t down play the best Land Cruiser ever built by continuing to make reference to your “fast” cars. When that, whatever you spoke of, is in the junk yard the 80 will still be getting it done. Have you read the story about the hare and the tortious? If you don’t think the 80 garners enough of your respect to write a story of your successes in its way then don’t.This will be an ongoing thread. I don't want to call it a build because I have a 10 second 700hp lightning and a 66 f100 under going a restomod.
This is more of a running rally of mods and maintenance.
Yesterday 11/20/2021 I purchased a 1991 HDJ81 VX limited.
It was imported 12/2020 with 184,833 km's.
She has a 4.2L 1hd-t and a442f. Originally painted Blue slate metallic, it was painted black while in Japan. It has the k295 axle code. So LSD read and open front.
It was imported with a small lift and 285/75/16 tires on some after market wheels.
It sits at 198,500 km's now.
Other mods include Ironman drop brackets for caster correction, rancho shocks and that's all I can find.
Mechanically It needs a timing belt and the inner axle seals are leaking.
My near future plans are:
Change all fluids. The previous owner gave me a box of Toyota oil filters, so that's helpful.
Timing belt, tensioner and spring.
Rebuild front knuckles. Not sure I'll do wheel bearings due to low mileage. I'll evaluate them when it's apart. I plan to add 97 front brakes while I'm doing this.
Service both drive shafts. Lube the slip yokes and u joints.
Give it a good detail
Install a functional stereo and speakers.
Tires: debating on 305s or 315s
Window motors
Plans for mods:
Custom front and rear bumper. My friend is a fabricator.
Front locker
Roof rack
Wheels
3" exhaust
Tint
Things I plan to fix that aren't mechanical
Fender flare trim
Window trim
Center console lid(recondition or replace)
OEM steering wheel
Refinish wiper arms
Build a recovery kit to go in itView attachment 2844981View attachment 2844983View attachment 2844984View attachment 2844985View attachment 2844986
Beyond that I just want to drive it and enjoy it.
Here are a few random shots of the rig and some neat things i found.

I like American too, believe me. I buy only American made tires and such. But to ignore the absolute superior quality of the 80 is repugnant. This 80 will long be gone in a wrecking yard before either of my 50+ year old cars are off the road
My 66 f100 is still sporting the stock engine and trans and is what I drive when this land cruiser sits in the shop.

Repugnance is not a good quality. I know you can do better. Your Fkrd or Chevy or whatever is fast but not superior. Every thing and person has a purpose and the qualifications to carry that out. That's what I do best.

This is an 80 series Land Cruiser forum. People like to post pics of there bmw or Subaru. Who cares. We are into beef not someone’s other idea of ideal. They are all ford's. Only 1 is fast. The other 2 are slow and reliable.

Going against the grain is tough.Oh I'm well aware of what's on this forum.
I can post pictures of my old bmw's and Subaru's I'd you'd like too.
I think I posted a picture of my 4runner somewhere.
I thought he was being sarcastic. Is he serious?Ok kids…. Enough now…
Being a cruiser head for most of us was born from first being gear heads. I’ve had BMW’s, Audis (still have a 400+whp one), Saabs, Hondas, and a Chevy. Through self taught mechanicing I came to learn that the cruiser was the most over built heavy duty vehicle of its class I’ve ever seen.
This community is centered around people who have found these statements to be true as well, which is where @baldilocks is coming from.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t respect other builds, old iron, rat rods, hell even jeeps. I think your other s*** is cool and I respect the builds.
@baldilocks love your input 99% of the time dude but I think you ought to try and see this with wider eyes. Give respect where respect is due. If he stays here long enough he’ll realize the same things we have.
Lastly, sure there is a sense of arrogance or perhaps cockiness from @Dusten ’ s post. But Having grown up and spending half my life just west of Rainier myself I chalk that up to the wet side Washingtonian attitude.
Which is rather common out there, living under a grey misty blanket at 50* and not seeing the sun at all for 30 days can have that affect on people.
do some push ups
