Ok, post #1014 above had me second guessing about these weatherstrip pieces and their location. All the photos I have ever seen of these, showed them at the front corners of the roof. Knowing that I took some detailed photos of my roof removal, I just checked my files. Look at what I found, per my rig, here is where these 64836-90332 weatherstrip piece were located and their orientation:

I plan to reinstall those pieces per the photos above.

Different shaped pieces....looks like there are similar seals front and back. My truck didn't have those front pieces but the the seal that runs all the way across the front does a decent job of sealing that area. Too late now but I'd add those as well if doing it again.

Mystery Solved:

Ok, here is an update on those 64836-90332 weatherstrip pieces and their location. From my photo above showing were those two pieces were located when I originally took my roof off, something looked odd on the large "U" shaped 63168-60011 roof drip molding piece vs the new one I had just laid up on my rig. The old 60011 in the photo has a square end and needed the 90332 pieces to seal up the roof at the front. The new 60011 (I thought) wasn't squared off and went all the way to the front member......So I did some research.

It is true for the 2/70 thru 5/79 used the large "U" shaped 63168-60011 roof drip molding packing piece along with two 64836-90332 weatherstrip pieces at the leading edge of the large packing piece to seal up the roof. This was because the 63168-60011 roof drip molding didn't go all the way to the front weatherstrip piece, thus the two additional small 90332 weatherstripping pieces were needed. Here is the expanded diagram from that set up:

When I ordered the large "U" shaped 63168-60011 roof drip molding packing piece, I didn't realize it was superseded with the 63168-90307 for the 8/80 thru 10/84 rigs....What do you know, the 90307 piece goes all the way to the front weather strip piece above the windshield, thus the two 90332 pieces aren't needed. Here is the expanded diagram from that set up:

And with that, I will install the new 63168-90307 roof molding without the the two smaller 64836-90332 pieces, and pack them away in storage........Case Closed!

Ga, I thought those pieces went on around the door. Like you, I had already installed the hard top when I figured out where they went. No way I am removing the top to put them in! So, they went in the box of unused stuff.

Lucky for me, I haven't installed my roof cap just yet. It should go on this weekend.....and I wasn't going to install the roof till I had complete confidence in the weatherstripping setup, like I feel now. Also, upon advice from a well know Land Cruiser restorer, I've been letting my new roofing weatherstrip piece bask in the warm sun we've been having here in GA. I was told it will do wonders for the installation process. Thus I'm trying not to use an adhesive on that large piece, but that is left to be seen.

Rick your timing on installing the hard top is PERFECT, I am refurbishing my hard top pieces and then will be installing my hard top!!

We may be talking about two different pieces. I think part #70 in this SOR diagram goes under the roof cap. in the front corners. I thought it went in the doors.

I had good luck with this product to lube up the weatherstripping when putting on the cap:

Part #70 & #71 are door trim/rubber sealing pieces. You don't have to remove the roof to install those pieces.

I was talking about Toyota's OEM #64836-90332 (left & right), which is an old weatherstrip piece that was for sealing the front roof corner to the door header & windshield.

Do you have a picture of #70 installed? For the life of me I couldn't figure out how it fit. It seemed like it would fit under the front corner of the roof. It just didn't seem to fit around the door. Not trying to jack your thread, just curious and hoping it may help someone else (including me!). Thanks.

I found this interesting thread on the net.....click here.......reference pics are towards the bottom of the web page.

What are folks using as an adhesive to install the OEM front door seals???

3m black weatherstrip adhesive. apply to both sides, let air dry for a few minutes, and put them together. Do them 8-10 inches at a time. Dont get in a hurry. See post 32 in my build thread in my signature.

From this description it must be like a contact adhesive. After a few minutes of air drying the glue surfaces stick to each other instantly, and no chance for any positioning movement? If so, I've worked with countertop laminates and contact adhesives for many years and am very familiar with the "instant magnetism" of that type of contact glue. Gas welding rods work real good to keep the glue surfaces apart until the positioning is perfect.

When I ordered the large "U" shaped 63168-60011 roof drip molding packing piece, I didn't realize it was superseded with the 63168-90306 for the 8/80 thru 10/84 rigs....What do you know, the 90306 piece goes all the way to the front weather strip piece above the windshield, thus the two 90332 pieces aren't needed. This is some excellent research. Definitely something I did not know, since I've never seen those two extra pieces on my 1980 truck. When I first saw this topic come up in your thread, I was thinking, "Oh sh**, I need to take my roof off again".

The only edit I would make is that the current roof seal is 63168-90307 instead of 63168-90306.

65 - Thanks for the heads up on the part number. I've updated my previous post.

Note: :meh: I guess if one wanted to be 100% percent accurate for the roof sealing in a 2/70 thru 5/79 restoration, they could modify the 63168-90307 drip molding piece in order to use those two small 64836-90332 weatherstrip pieces.....not me though.
