The rule is: Never use an ARB compressor to fill tires and if it's mounted inside the blazing hot engine compartment it won't last very long

Got the axle and cut up the donor truck.

I agree. This is the one rated to fill tires and that is all I used it for; and it still died.

I’ll likely move it to somewhere with more airflow. Maybe I’ll get lucky and I can get it inside the rear bumper. They finally sent me an RMA to send it in for a new one.

It was rolled, so it's donating parts so others can live on.
Yeah I was looking at those pictures and the A-Pillars definitely had been squished!

@HemiAlex When are you slamming this thing together? ;)

Hopefully mid February. Not in a rush.

I’ll just leave this here. The plasma cutter sure made quick work of it, but it still takes some effort. I’ve got a lot of grinding and slag smoothing left.

Next up we will mock up the perches and set pinion angle and strip/paint it all.

I need brake parts and brake lines for my parts orders coming up.

Hate that job. Done it three times now, it never gets faster

My first comment was “I completely get why shops charge real money for this”

Aside from cutting up that 80 axle, I didn’t do anything but make this old truck run for Ben so he can drive it back to California.

I was only a small part of a bigger puzzle. From sitting since 2003 to running in 3 days.

It took me maybe 20+ work hours with just a grinder wheel. I’m sure it could have gone faster. I need to get a plasma cutter.

2 hours with a plasma and a few hand burns from slag.

I probably have another 2 hours with a grinder dressing it down to perfection.

I’ve been driving it a ton and not doing much to it.

I laser scanned it at work to play around with the model. That was fun.

I also found a bit wrong with my carb linkage. I had bent the stop down that controls the choke flap and I wasn’t able to control the high idle. I bent it up and the cam would return.

Also the accelerator pump arm lost its cotter pin. The spring stayed in place but the washers went everywhere. I was able to fix it with new metric washers and a cotter pin for under a dollar.

The truck is currently with me on a job site and rubbing elbows with $70k diesels and getting all the attention. 700 miles this week and getting 14.5 mpg while trying to keep it at 75 on the highway. I am happy with it.
I’ve got all the stuff for the 80 axle install, I feel it will truly love the 4.11 gears. I need to get back to that with @samc2447

This was a bit of a catch up on maintenence.

7000 miles since the last oil change. I’ve been using the m1 15w50 with good results. The engine doesn’t leak but it burned 2 quarts in that time, which does not worry me at all.

I recently swapped to another city racer due to the ever so common “junk in the carb” and it’s running great and getting 22in vacuum.

Next oil change at 336,804. I’ll be at 350,000 on the original motor by the end of the year. Hopefully.

I’ll be sending a sample off the black stone soon.

I counted up the oil changes that were hand written in the owners manual. 107 total from 12/88.

Even though the rust may not show it, this thing has been loved

2 qts in that many miles is better (about the same) than mine at 119,000 miles. Oil looks like honey on the dipstick after 5000. I do get a puff of blue smoke when shifting. I'm thinking valve guide seals.
