Almost finished product looks like this. Sorry I wanted to drive it so I haven't finished it yet.

Awesome. So both the transfer shifter and transmission shifter were 3 inches further back? Also, did you have the parking brake on the output shaft and if so did that have to change?
Thanks for the help.

I bent the five speed shifter by heating it up with a torch. the shifter is embedded in some kind of rubber isolator but I was able to heat it, bend it and cool it fast enough that it appears to be just fine. The only other oddities were the speedo cable. Mine was routed down the passenger side (LT) by moving everything back three inches I had to reroute it down the drivers side. The tubular mid crossmember was in the way also so I notched it and patched it for now. I might make a new one later on. My local drive shaft shop charged my 225 to shorten my rear driveshaft 3" and lengthen the front the same.

Fantastic. That's a great help. I want to start the swap and it looks like my existing transfer case , which is already rebuilt will work. I got another on thinking I needed it. Something about the extra bearing on the 5 speed needing an oiler or something. But the one they sold me looks identical to the one I have.

I've seen that listed; I just couldn't figure out how it got oil. Is there a oil line that's run to it?

Oh, thanks. I'll get that ordered. And I read through the H55f thread. Great info! I'm getting more confident. I did see in that thread that the transfer case had to be 1982 or newer, so I guess my 81 actually won't work.

That's ok, I got the supposed compatible transfer case(late model) from Cruiserparts.net . So it should be good and I'm under the impression that some if not all my internals are interchangeable. That would be nice since I rebuilt the one I have. If not , I'll rebuild the one I bought.

Nader,
I miss that mustard troopy!! I have a lot of the answers to your questions as I spent the better part of the weekend tracing all those tubes and wires. Happy to talk to you on the phone or on this thread.
Personally I think the tranny and transfer case we need to be opened, clean, and rebuilt.

Been driving her around the last 2 days and oiling things here and there( hinges, locks etc...)
Today i tried to move the transfer case shifter from 2h to 4h and it moved!!!!
Cant seem to move from 4h to N or 4L
But at least it moved!
Going to attempt to remove the shifter cover around the boot and see if its dirt or something simple.
Going from 4h to N and then to 4L
Is there a procedure to do it regarding the front manual lockers?
Lock them first and then try to go from 4H to N and then 4L?

I ask because of this extra sticker on the dash that talks about the lockers yet the factory one on the glove door doesnt...
Thank you again very much

Where can one get one of these 5th gear oilers (oiler cup). I've looked around and no luck.

Great to hear that you're getting 4H now.

Maybe this means your vehicle has seen so little off-road work that the shifter mechanism is almost seized up from lack of use?

Make sure you're stopped when pushing the transfer lever across to the right for low ratio. Apart from this, nothing else really matters.

(You need the hubs engaged only because without that you obviously won't succeed in getting "FOUR WHEEL DRIVE". In other words, not having them engaged won't do any damage.)

Sometimes I like to be in low ratio with the hubs disengaged. For instance when towing a heavy trailer up a steep and difficult concrete driveway.

No oil line. The plastic oiler just ensures that the gear gets oil. Nothing else to it.
Where did you get the 5th gear oiler cup? I can't locate one so far. I haven't called Cruiserdan
