The shifter will work fine, problem is it will hit your leg in second gear. At least when installed in a 55. The shifter is actually two pieces with a rubber connector between the two metal pieces. If you use heat in order to bend the shifter, it will melt the rubber and come apart. I tried it and finally just cut the bottom piece, that goes into the top of the transmission and welded a 5/8ths rod to it. prebent to where I liked it.

, Good point. You might not have a problem. Best to do some more research before cutting. Top of my head, reverse doesn't go so far over that way. I'll go check mine.
