I realize this doesn't truly solve the situation and potentially causes another. But as a temporary solution, why not rainX the inside of the window? Did this a lot in NC when I found out my firebird defrost couldn't keep up with the humidity as well. Instead of the window fogging the moisture beads up and rolls down.

I put some Cat Crap on some of the windows as a test and they appear to be doing better than the windows without. I realize it’s not a long term solution but to get a pig to have mist free windows in Idaho winter climate may take some experimentation with several combinations to get it. I might try some Rain-X on another window to compare.

Working on some ideas to seal the doors better now.

I think fresh air is where it's at! Why not get some? It seems like all you issues are because all you have is recirc so why not fix the problem? Like you said, it might be fine until it rains, you get wet, and then get back in the rig. So you can either fog up the cab or find some fresh air. I hope this does not come across like I'm telling you what to do, but I really think it is the only real solution and I know you have the fab skills as well as the trick s*** finding skills necessary to make it happen. The only other thing I can think of is moving to San Diego which might be cheaper...;)

I agree on the fresh air supply.

Do you still have the passive vents under the dash @J Mack ? Between those up front and the rear quarter vents, you can pull some air through. Not sure how humid it is where you are, but here in CO the outside humidity is usually pretty low.

I like having a little outside air flow in to my vehicles all the time. My dad always leaves his cars on recirc and the cars smell (I think) inside. No bueno...

Your fix.

The door metal issue brings to mind the condensation issue typical of metal roofs on a pole building. The typical solution is to apply a vapor barrier and insulation. Not sure how to apply such a technique to the inside of a door with a window regulator, but seems like an achievable option.

On my steel building they used a layer Reflectix type Insulation before they used the fiberglass to help with the condensation and this is what I'm thinking about bonding to the outer door skins.

For those not familiar with Reflectix insulation: The World’s Largest Manufacturer of Reflective Insulation and Radiant Barrier Products

That stuff looks like it could have some promise. I used a similar product some years back on a diff vehicle. Would be nice if a double-sided adhesive could be applied before install. I recall using spray adhesive, and I also recall crumpling up a bunch of that stuff and kicking it out into the street.....:woot:

Exactly why I haven’t installed any yet, I don’t have a clue how to secure it to the door skin and seal the outer edge without compromising the plastic. RTV silicone is my best guess but I’ll need to devote more time looking into it.

I have read where some of the expedition guys use it for insulation but no one says how they installed it.

Thank you for the heads up!!!

Also looking into some future heat/air sources as a last resort, I’ll post some links here for safe keeping.

All in one unit: Marine Defogger/Defroster 12v Complete Kit

Bigger heater with smaller blower: 12 Volt Turbo DC Heater

Just a blower: 437 CFM 12 VDC SPAL 004-A41-285 BLOWER

Went out for a joy ride up in the hills above Boise to test the fog proofing I applied to half the rear windows when we found an old mine shaft with what looked like a Nash Metropolitan stuck on top, we were guessing they must have use the Nash to power something down in the shaft. We’ll go back to explore after in warms up a bit and get some better photos.

When we got to the top it was 15° and both untreated drivers rear side windows had frozen frost on the inside, the treated passenger’s rear glass was much better, the front treated windshield and front side glass never fogged up the entire trip but the passenger’s rear glass started to freeze after about 10 hours of below 20° weather. I’m thinking that the Cat Crap helps but I’ll need to work on better moisture barriers in the doors soon.

You can see in this photo the rear glass is fogged and the front looks good

Ron,

I would guess the cab stayed in the mid 70’s with lots of stops to get out and look around, mostly driving with sweatshirts definitely too warm to drive with a jacket on. I’m only running the Restomod under dash unit, no under seat Toyota rear heater and it seems to do fine.

Sounds good. I've got the rear hooked up, but down the road might switch out for one of your aux. heater/defrosters.

Boy! That color is really good looking!
Thank you!

I’ve started working on tuning with my A/F ratios in hopes of moving from 23:1 towards 18:1, this would not only give a bit more power but should give better MPG………

Well at about 20:1 it all went bad, I would have made my own video but this guy covers it pretty well.

Man, is it me or do you have some bad mojo kind of thing going on with the 55. At least you know the outer limits of each piece. Expensive education.

What's your thoughts, bigger, stronger turbo or dial it back some.

To say this is why I can’t have anything nice would not be an overstatement.

I’m notoriously hard on s*** and unfortunately the 55 is resisting and would prefer I start acting my age. Fortunately I have a good since of humor and kind of like the old pig so I’ll work on a new turbo tomorrow and see if we can’t come to an agreement.

Never, when this turbo popped the little 4bt was making enough power to break the 35” tires lose @ 40+ MPH and just started to come into boost, I will keep throwing parts at the 55 as long as it keeps putting a smile on my face.

Wow!

Reminds of what an old friend used to advise me, "Endeavor to Persevere..."

I thought about that many times when I was getting my butt kicked on the Pig.

I admire your attitude, keep smiling!

Ha, I think you inspired me to add a line to George Wootton’s poem…

To be able to drive more than 500 trouble free miles

before something s***s the bed seems only a distant dream

in my head I must endeavor to persevere!

When best-laid plans have fallen to waste

and frustration abounds in their former place,

when failure looms with doubts and fears

we must endeavor to persevere!

When dreams are shattered and hopes are dashed,

goals upon the shoals have crashed,

when gladness is but a memory dear

let us endeavor to persevere.

When sons and daughters from God rebel

and the paths they follow lead straight to hell

your fervent prayers God does not hear

pledge to endeavor to persevere.

When wracked with pain, our body worn,

youth is spent, don't be forlorn,

a better day is growing near

while we endeavor to persevere.

When all is lost, life’s' cupboard bear,

and seems like even God don't care,

His grace is sufficient in the trials and tears,

still we endeavor to persevere.

This present life is hard at best

but we must strive to complete the test

for our redemption draweth near

as we endeavor to persevere.

A restful home for us awaits,

we long to enter heaven's gates,

the promise of peace and never a tear

if we endeavor to persevere.

Christ Himself will take our hand

and guide us through this beautiful land,

the saints will tell us they're glad we're here

and that we endeavored to persevere!
