Tall skinnies (again)

I'm trying to set a price & availability on the 9.0R16 XZL Michelins (probably WAY too expensive)

Can anyone suggest a 16" size alternative (I'm under the impression that there might be more choices in 16" although I'm not seeing that in my research... metric sizes???)

Thanks

the 900r16 xzl's are about 75% tread when that guy gets them...i was quoated awhile back about 220 per tire...and shipping wasnt too bad...they will out last the swamper tsl's by 5 years ...even though they are at 75%...the michelin wear like iron....which gives them some disadvantages...

look for 255/85r16 as a good choise of tire...or 8.25r16...bothj are a true 33.3" tire 8.25 alil aller almost 34"

i am running 255/85r16 toyo m-55's ...great tire

there is a great thread on the 25 section for 16" alternatives...although they are in a 15" thread

sorry it was in the b45 section:

good thread for a oem look tire tall and skinny 16"s

285/75x16 calcs out to about 33x11.2
295/75x16 calcs out to about 33.4x11.6

These are LESS tall/skinny than the 33x9.50....

yes ....

75's are 11 wide on average

85's are 9.5-10" wide on average....you want to stick with an 85 to get skinny at highth

and metric 100's like 750 or 825 or 900 will be skinny range of 9-9.5 wide
or
call them 7.50, 8.25 and 9.00 same thing

i love the 8.25r16 or 9.00r16 xl's....but....they are ONLY being sold overseas....and military.

but army tire can get them....and even at times the more desirable 825 size

825= 33.9?
900=true 36" and can be mounted on a 5.5 rim wih a widh of 9.5 as i remember

here is a great pic of a 45 with 900r16 XL tires....great tall...nice and skinny...super sidewall strength...radial...wear like iron...a set will last 70,000 miles on a cruiser easy....

the cons....dont flex unless aired down to near zero...really heavy...horable in snow...way too hard a compound

and i forgot a pro....WAY Cool looking tire :)

What? The first number IS THE WIDTH IN MM. 275= 275mm wide and 75 is the percentage of the width that is sidewall. ALL 275's ARE 10.8 inches (give or take A LITTLE for manf.)

The metric system isn't that hard guys!!

Good old thread. Tall & skinnies are getting scarce. I've been looking a lot lately.

On tire rack, the only 33x9.5s are BFG ATs with status=backorder. I should've bought four when they were $105 last year. :bang: At least I've got two for the front and they match pretty close to my Big-O 33x9.5s on the rear and spare.

The new tall&skinny seems to be BFG KM2 in 345/75R16, so I bought another '40 and I'm going SOA. :flipoff2:

34 X 9.5 TSL'S are pretty cool tires, they need to warm up though. I still have an old set with about 90% that I can't part with. I went for some radials for road comfort.

I guess I'm in luck. I'm rolling a new set of 5 BFG 33x9.5x15's on the '55 and I have a set of 5 34x9.5x15 TSL's in the basement with 300 miles on them!

Great thread.... Wish I found it long ago as I've spent hours uncovering exactly what's written here.

Frustrated at not being able to find 33X9.5X15's for both FJ55s, I pieced together a set of used MTs and ATs. I even bought a guy a new 33X10.5 MT to trade me for a nice used 9.5 MT. Lots of work for two sets of used tires.

I decided to call BFG to see if they were gone forever or what. Everyone has "backordered" for status, with no ETA.

BFG told me they were NOT discontinued, but in between production runs. Apparently on less popular sizes, they just run limited quantities occasionally. She put me on hold to verify they were not discontinued and came back to say they are not. Good news.

We just need to be patient, or we all need to call BFG once a week to move them up on the list.

I just picked up some older TSL radial 36x12.50-15's The actually measure out to 35.8x9.75.... not super skinny but much thinner than most 12.50's. Dont know why they call them a 12.50???

The tread is 9.75, but the fat part is probably over 12" on a 9" or a 10" rim.
