Don't flame me if this is a dumb question, but do these fit all FJ40 years? Mine is a 1970. Am I good to go on a set of these?

I'm finally getting to putting some reject (don't fit my quality standards for selling) hinges on my 40.

I found that I could access the top two bolts in the top right hinge through the glove box. I did whack my hand on some sharp edges, but got the old bolts out. MicahMan's access to the same bolts in the left side through the instrument cluster got me wondering.

Just for an update if anyone is interested: I started a job today with a Laser Cutting business. All of my MC Designs Offroad stuff will now be done after normal business hours EST. More hinges on the way to build up more stock and I may have some at the PMC swap meet and Rubithon for both raffles.

Hooray!

congrats on the new job Matt!

Matt that is awesome on the new job!!!!!
I've been loving my hinges. There is only one problem though....
THey are so easy to take the doors off now that the :princess:
asks me to take them off everytime we go anywhere, even the
grocery store across the street :)

They are seriously awesome. Thanks again for the great build!

I've been considering having a local machinist work with me to produce my door halves out of billet aluminum so that I can better retain the factory hinge appearance. I have no idea of the end cost, but am wondering what interest there might be if I can work this change. I would still offer them with the steel A-pillar half and in self etching primer.

How is the ambu door hinges coming along?

A bit slow, but still moving. I only have one set of hinges to measure from and the right side door halves were bent and straightened at some point. Finding trucks to measure around here isn't an easy task. The biggest challenge with the ambu hinges is measuring the forward rake of the top and then designing around that. I'll keep updates coming.

ambulance door quik hinge update

I got the opportunity to do some more work on the quik hinge for the Ambulance Doors. I have some workable dimensions and will start playing with desinging them in a CAD program hopefully this week. I will post some drawings as they progress to guage opinions.

I appreciate the data and parts supplied to me for this project.

I just ordered a set for my 78! I can't wait. I recently was converted to the FJ from always owning jeeps and one thing that frustrates me is how hard it is to remove the doors. I can't wait to get them!

On my 69 I can access the top right bolts from inside the glove box and between the box and A-pillar. On the left side I've had to remove the ignition switch to ease the access, but I've heard that the gauge cluster can be removed to allow better access too. Micahman seems to have gotten it down pretty quickly. Check out Grandpas1973 in this section.

Quick install

Hey Matt,
I knocked these out really quickly by removing the guage cluster. It gave me just enough leverage. Also a stubby wrench with a box end socket helped.
