Hey guys & gals,

Is it very necessary to make camping reservations?

I was under the impression that it was just kind of a free for all.

Edit: Damn, I need spellcheck on this thing...:D

Jeb,

So far it hasn't been necessary. Last count there were over 800 available camping spots available.

Forgot that I posted it here too...sorry 'bout that.

I'll edit my post.

Hi guys,

Also, the park entrance is at the end of Grand Ave., right? Gotta confirm this since I haven't been to Pismo for a while now, and it's gonna be dark by the time I get there.

Thanks,
Frank.

Grand Ave is the first Ranger booth & you czn enter there.... But most use the 2nd one which is about a 1 mile or so further south, Pier Ave (I think)...

:bounce2: :bounce2: About 2-3 hrs til we pull out :bounce: :bounce:

So being the spaceflight geek that I am I just took a look at the Vandenberg AFB launch schedule...and there is a launch on Saturday.

Spacecraft: Defense Meteorological Satellite Program 17
Launch Vehicle: Delta IV Medium
Liftoff: Between 05:53 and 06:03 PST

Since this is only the Delta IV Medium and not the Medium+ there are no solid booster rockets, but from my experience with this vehicle it should put on a good show even from our vantage point 33 miles from the pad and looking at it as it flies away from us (due south). It uses hydrogen for fuel which can leave a nice exhasut plume as it rises into teh colder regions of the atmosphere. That combined with the timing just before sunrise should allow us to follow the first stage flight and possibly some of the second stage.

I'll be up and watching the launch, so feel free to get up early and join me. During the launch I'll provide what commentary I can for those interested. Just look for the Dune Beige 40 with an assortment of NASA stickers on the rear quarter panels.

Given it's not foggy, you'll definately see it. You will also be able to hear it if you are really paying attention. If your up for it, you can drive to the Vandenberg Tracking Station and watch from there. It is a good 45 minutes from the Dunes, however. I'd be going there, but that is too early for me. I'll just walk outside in Santa Maria and watch it.

Cool!

I will bring my 2000MM telescope with Sony video HDTV. I hope the sky is free of clouds.

Cheers,

Hey all, anybody want to caravan from Los Osos? J/K This will be my first S&T, if I can only make it one day, which would be the day to be there. Sat. or trail rides to Pozo?

Although Pozo's a great time, given the choice, I'd be there bright and early Saturday morning and spend all of Saturday there, camp overnight and leave bright and early Sunday morning.

Thanks, I live close by so I probably won't camp. My 3.slo does better on the trails than the dunes, but I am still going to try to make both. As a heads up, Garcia Ridge has some real tight brush spots that will give you some nice pinstriping. It isn't as bad as it was, the local club I am in has cleared the trail back on the majority of it, but it still needs a couple more work days on it.

What a glorious sunrise today!
Only one day away..I Cant Wait!

but the topper on my way to work this morning was at 6:21 PST about a mile out of Somis Ca. on the 118. Heading west with the rising sun at it's back was the most awesome sight I couldv'e imagined. A shimmering homage to the cruiser gods on a big white trailer being pulled by a huge white rig. I've been following a thread for over a year on this site, and have been awake at night wishing I could build something just like this piece de resistance. I watched as it grew from a shell of a truck to an artfull excercise in craftmanship, design and utility coupled with style. I've seen the Toyota Trails article, and the numerous photos, I've been responsible for a few hundred of the hits on the thread, but none of that compared to what I saw drive past me in a flash this morning.

What was the flash of greatness I saw?
It was Gary Waggoner pulling his Project X.

It took all the strength I had to not flip a bitch and follow him to Pismo. I'm sitting here at my desk at work knowing I've got a few hours to cram in a weeks worth of work before I get to go hang out in the presence of such magnificent metalwork and drool over his machine...it's killing me!

I was feeling pretty good that I got in the LED's from George last night, but seeing "the Truck" shot that to hell in a heartbeat.

Not sure if he saw me, but my initial reaction when I saw him drive past me was to throw up my hand and flash the "hook 'em" and I was hollerin'!
Man, what an awesome sight, and I get to spend three days staring at it!

-----okay, that was a little overboard, but you get the point if you've seen the thread.

Be safe everyone on the roads, see you in Pismo!
