Did Toyota ever have stock powersteering on a 55? If so what year? I'm not into doing any metal mods on this cruiser. But if it were stock on them I would be interested in finding one.

Yup. I believe it was definitely 1979, and possibly 78? Had a box I was all set to put in but it was a wreck. Roadsports(ron) 79 had it.

Lance Williams at IPOR sells a bracket to mount a minibox. Thats the route I'm taking.

78/79. Factory p/s, factory a/c...

Mini truck conversion is the least invasive option, and quite easy.

x2 on the Iron Pig bracket. As easy as it gets...

79s had PS and some late 78s........merbesfield on the 45 forum had a 78 pig with PS; cruiserparts is parting out 3 79s............they might have the PS units for sale;

Just a question for you all to clarify...

Didn't Toyota offer power steering on 55's as an option since 1970'ish???

I don't know about the rest of the world, but as for the US market, I believe late '78 is the earliest you will find it.

My 10/78 had A/C only I was told by someone who would know 50% of 78s had P/S or A/C that leaves it 25% of the 1400 imported that year. and all 700 of the 79' had P/S and A/C ( for what it.s it's worth ) but you need the threaded holes in the block 79 or later 2f to use the OEM pump. $.02..Dusty
