Eh that's what a steam cleaners for! Lol is the 41010 better? Which one came with the truck originally?

The 20004 was and still is the factory-fill for many engines.

The 41010 is what I like to call the "classic" LC filter.
The 20004 is what I like to call the "new classic" filter.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

There aren't many OEM filter made by Denso in Japan anymore. Most are made in Thailand or USA. The 20004/41010/diesel 30002 filters are all Denso Japan.

Where would you like me to begin?

The 15600-41010 is significantly larger and has a paper element. The 90915-20004 has a synthetic element. The synthetic element appears to to a better cleaning job and the filter is much easier to get in and out. In addition it does not dump a pint of dirty oil on the front axle housing when you spin it off. The 15600-41010 bumps the total oil capacity by about a pint (the same one that ends up on the axle housing).

What is the difference between the 90915-20004 and the 90915-YZZD3 that one of my parts suppliers says replaces the 90915-20004?

Been discussed, do a search using the part numbers; what cruiserdan said in the quote.

I've seen a lot of these oil filter arguments and during my mad R1 track days I looked into what would be the best "replacement" filter for the Yamaha OE which was $$$. I found this write-up, Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference, and went out to find out if what the author said was true. I cut open filters from Fram, Yamaha, Supertech, Denso, Purolator, Bosch, and Mobil1. I found the same findings that the articles author did: most filters are junk.
Very few OE suppliers provide the advanced synthetic filter media that's proven to extend oil life and filter very small particulate from the oil medium. If the filter does have the synthetic media, it's usually in very small amounts, with the rest being paper.
I've never used or cut open a Toyota filter, but I do use Purolator Pure One's in my truck and know for certain that they're one of the best filters on the market. Even Supertech (WalMart of all places) will outperform all filters in the Fram line-up and pretty much all filters recommended as OE.
From experience and money spent trashing filters, I would use a WalMart (rebranded champion) filter long before I'd ever use WIX, Napa, or any parts store filter.
If you're stuck on the Toyota filter, by all means hunt them down, but there are great options out there you can count on.

Old thread, I know. Sorry.

I was given a 90915-30002 oil filter today at the dealership. Is that right for my FZJ80? Or is that for the diesel engine? It seems here in Uganda no one believes I actually have a petrol engine in a land cruiser.

For a diesel. Won't fit a 1FZ-FE engine.

Dan or Beno,

Do you have any 20004 in stock?

Dan has about 800 of them in stock. They are made in Thailand and not Japan.

Japan -20004's are gone for good. :(

(though they are still being put into 1GR-FE engines from the factory)

I know Dan and myself have our own personal stash. :grinpimp:

The 15600-41010's are gone too. :(

I have a half dozen of the 010's and 4 of the Japan 004's

What is the verdict on the Thai 004's?

So my big question is:

Are these Thai 004's the best Toyota filter we can get right now?

I stock the YZZG1 and that covers a majority of my Toyota customers. I have a few discerning customers that want something better. I had been putting Japanese 004's on those vehicles, but not anymore, I guess.

So if the Thai 004 is the best Toyota can offer for these applications, I'll have to go with them.

Currently that is the case.

Dan,
I just left you a V.M. I'll take a case.

This site is russian, but you can hit the translate button if you are using Google Chrome browser. It seems the new 90915-20004's (made in thailand variance) are still an upgrade over the more common YZZD3 replacement filters. Looks like it has a higher quality Anti drain-back valve (like the old made in japan 20004's) and perhaps a synthetic/or part synthetic paper media:
Масляный фильтр 90915-20004
The made in thailand 20004's definitely look a lot more like the YZZD3's, but if there's anyone out there interested in the old design made in japan 20004 filter, it looks like denso is still making them and selling them in japan under the name TACTI Drive Joy filters. Here are some pics again from a russian site, that has cut open one of these drive joy filters, and the inside looks to be exactly like the old made in japan 20004 filters. The can and the paint even look like the old 20004 filters. Makes me thing that Denso is making these for them and just putting the name TACTI Drive Joy on the filter, instead of Toyota 90915-20004. So I guess the 20004 saga continues....

there are some more pics of the Drive Joy filter cut open here on this russian site... seems like the ruskie's are even more anal about what kind of filters they use on their Yotas than us yankees.

more pics of the Drive Joy filter cut open... looks to have the same exact internal parts as the old made in Japan Toyota/Denso 90915-20004 filters. Glad to see Denso came to their senses and have not actually stopped making the GOAT oil filter ever known to man:

Drive&Joy - масляные фильтры

Drivejoy won't know what hit them once this info spreads throughout this subforum...

Does anyone know a practical way to purchase Drive Joy filters in the US? I can only find sites in Russian and Japanese.

Try japan4x4.com. He mostly does OEM toyota stuff but might have some connections to the aftermarket over there. And above all he can easily bridge the language gap.

Tacti is a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation which Toyota created in 1996 when it enter aftermarket parts business. This is indeed the real deal 90915-20004 and market direct from Toyota umbrella. Not aftermarket "not known" brand. :) Will see if I can get my hands on this goodies!!

TACTI = Toyota Aftermarket Creating and Trading Incorporated.
