Dan...How much for a case of these filters? I'm also wondering if this is the same filter for my 2001 4Runner.

I use these filters along with M1 extended oil for a 15k change cycle. Since I consume 1 quart for every 5k I drive, it's 1 filter + 10 quarts of oil.

I did do an oil analysis on the first run and Blackstone stated I could have gone further on the oil and that was with just a single filter for the whole 15k.

:eek::eek::eek:

So LT, what you're saying is that, since I use the same stuff, I'm probably changing my oil too soon at 6K. Dang, I thought I might be pushing it!

These apparently filter better, but how much better? Do they do anything else better? Last longer, better anti-drainback valve, better oil flow in gallons per minute? (these should be taken as sincere questions, not sarcastic comments or challenges) Are they better than say a Mobil 1 extended performance filter? I usually use the large 41010 or the Mobil 1 filter. The main/recurring issue that I have experienced over the years is that the antidrainback valves seems to stop working (on just about any cruiser) somewhere around 6-7K miles and then I start getting more start-up rattle than when the filter is new.

I read through some of this thread, so if I missed it, I apologize in advance; just looking for facts and trying to get educated, not stoned by the crowd.

Straight from the FAQ.

Photo's of the 20004 compared to the cheaper filter:

If you are using the extended stuff, probably. I use this stuff during the winter in my LC and the summer in my Camry. That's because that is how I use my vehicles for business. I've cut my oil changes down to two a year on each vehicle. That's driving a total of 40k miles a year.

The pics of the 20004 are interesting and do show the unique construction. But what data do we have on the actual performance on the filter say compared to the larger Toyota filter 41010 ie: flow rate, filtering efficiency, life expectancy, etc. I understand that the factory apparently puts these in to trap more junk from a new engine, but what I am looking for is how it actually functions. Or, are we mostly going on the assumption that it is better therefore those of us with LCOCD need/want it? I can't imagine that the larger 41010 does an inadequate job, or Mr T would not sell it to us.

Again, just looking for the data, so don't shoot me for asking. (I'll probably get some as I too have LCOCD).

The 90915-20004 does not apply to the 01 4runner. It fits F (with spin-on mount) 2F, 3F, 1FZ, 4.0 V6 and 4.7 V8 as well as the Lexus V8's.

We're waiting for you to purchase a filter testing machine. :grinpimp: What we know is the construction and filter media appear to be of superior quality and this is the filter sold overseas where OCI's are typically longer. I have run near 10k intervals on the filter with good UOA's, but frankly, I believe that any decent filter should hit that. I know that I don't get a startup rattle at any point with the filter.

If the 2001 4Runner has the 5VZ engine, yes it will fit. I use these filters on my 04 Tacoma with the 5VZ engine and if you look closely outside the box of the filter it listed the engine application which are UZ series, FZ series, and 5V-EU.

OBTW, is there any shelf life on these filters? I have one case in my garage since 2003.

They will physically screw on to the mount but they are not "correct" for the vehicle. ;)

Shelf life, if stored in a dry place with a constant temperature, should be quite some time.

I do have the 5VZ-FE. I started wondering when I noticed Amsoil shows the same filter (EAO57) for both the 2004 LC and 2001 4Runner.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be calling tomorrow when I finalize the shopping list.

Hi Mot, are these filters good for the 1HD-t? The 1HD-t uses the 90915-20002 which is not an engine spec'd on the box but also on the box it says "substituted for" 90915-20002. Thanks, Tony

90915-20002 is replaced by 90915-20004

Thanks Dan, do you know why the 1HD-t is not listed as an engine application on Mots boxes? I guess more to the point do you know if the 20002 is a suitable filter for the 1HD-t ?Thanks, Tony
