Status on 90915-20004 filters

Just for reference, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the past 7 pages or not, but Toyota calls the 90915-YZZX# filters their MVP line or Most Valued Products (I think this is the name for the abbreviation!)

If you vcheng has enough filters and is willing to part with what he's got (if what he told me is true, he's gonna run out of them:eek: ) and that you need them in a hurry, then vcheng would be happy to help.

If you're not in a rush and are happy to pay the prices I've listed on page 5 or earlier, then you can PM me.

Just an F.Y.I., I've called up Denso, asking them if I could purchase direct from them, but they told me that I would have to buy them from Toyota. So I went to Toyota today (Toyota kyohan) and they told me that they would not be able to give ANY discount even if I bought 1,000 filters, because I was an individual and am not in the parts business.

Anyway, let me know if I can help.
I know that vcheg is thinking about ordering another batch for himself and some others, but/and I would be happy to help anyone as well. ;)

Last Call.

vcheng,

Please PM me you address and phone numbers. One of my guys that work for me is going to New York this week end. He will call you and drop a case to him, this will save me $$ on shipping. Thanks.

Just reading the end of the thread..

I ordered 10 90915-YZZD3 for my LX450 about a year ago. They are sealed and the O-Ring greased. No idea what I paid for them.

Bought them from Jay Marks (Champion Toyota now?).

From this thread:

Today's parts guys says 20004 is a Japanese part number and YZZD3 is the Toyota Parts Store part number. Whatever...

Well, the filters that MOT kindly sent me are all spoken for, save for a few that I have kept for myself. The bulk will be sent out by this weekend.

Once this frenzy dies down, I have MOT's consent to arrange another shipment. If people are not in a hurry, I would like to get the next batch by sea shipping and save everybody some money.

The logical folks are welcome to get the YZZD3 or the TRD equivalents. I am sure that these are good OEM Toyota standard filters too.

The nut cases like me who want to waste more money on the expensive 20004s queue here, and MOT and I can keep everybody updated.

VC.

the small cheap yzzd3 filter switched out in toyota's system for the small good 20004 filter which in turn had switched out for the big good 16010 filter , which is still available. the TRD filters have paper elements.

Sure they are still out there, but in batches of a few filters at any one place and sporadically too. I want these filters to be available reliably as they were before.

AFAIK, these filters (20004) were never supplied in "Lexus" branded boxes. They were always labeled Toyota. Can you please post a picture "of them in *Lexus* boxes for.." ? Just curious!

PS: Hell, even I, nutty as I am, cannot justify the cost or the hassle. You are so right about this! But that doesn't stop me, so there you are. :)

Yes, that's a Lexus badge alright, but the 20002 filter is not the same as 20004 filter internally. These filters are for V6 engines, not V8s. They will fit, with the correct thread pitch and gasket size, but filtering capacity is smaller.

Hey, if you are happy to use these filters, then I am happy for you. :)

I don't think so, at least according to Dan they are the same. The big difference between the 20002 and the 20004 is the price. If you look back in the thread you will actually see that some of the 20004 filters had the same Denso part number on them as they where the first ones to come off the line during the switch.

It is a very common practice through all manufacturing industries to simple change a part number when a price change is required. This saves a lot of explaining. It doesn't always mean it's the same product but in this case it does.

You may be correct. And if Dan agrees, then that is very very likely to be correct!

I vaguely remember seeing a cut out for the 20002 filter somewhere, and it showed a dual filtering media setup, with the top part resin core (like the 20004) and a bottom pleated paper part (like a conventional filter). The 20004 has the resin type filtering medium only. Personally, I still think I am correct in that the 20004 is a better filter that I would use on my vehicles.

I will say though, that ALL Toyota OEM filters are pretty good, even the YZZD3, and this would include the 20002. I would trust one of these over many after market filters.

Some are happy with pretty good, and I respect that. Wherever I can, I go for the best possible, and that should be okay too, since it is my money! If I can help fellow gearheads along the way, that's fine too.

All this worry about oil filters when you will just blow a HG anyway :-)

If anybody wants more 20002 filters, here are six more (scroll down to the last item on bottom of page):

http://www.allworldautomotive.com/a...cturer__miscellaneous_misc_parts_ots4599.html

Here are some more YZZB5A filters:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Oi...069129425QQcategoryZ33661QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

(These are made in malaysia, and was one of the possible filters before the YZZD3.)

And if the above is not OCD enough, here are some more filter choices that people may want to consider:

The obvious Toyota ones:
90915-20004
90915-20002
90915-YZZB5
90915-YZZD3
15600-41010
(many more choices with Toyota as well)

Wix 51348 and 51515
Fram PH16, PH8A, PH3614, PH4967
Mobil 1 M-103 and 1-209
Motorcraft FL-400S
STP 3614

TRD 00602-90915-004
TRD 00602-90915-007

And if that is not choice enough, many of these will cross-reference to other filters, all of which will fit. And Toyota engines are so well made that they will no doubt give a long service life still.
