My sqod: what is this?

Looks like the ballast for your headlights.
Think it’s the DRL resistor for your high beams. The DRL circuit uses relays to put the high beams in series, instead of parallel, and I assume the resistor helps to dim them more.

Figured it was something like that’s. They really allocated a lot space for that little box

This, exactly. I think the '13+ minor update got rid of it, or it's relocated. Had one in the '11, but none in my '15.

Could a spinal stimulator interfere with the TPMS enough to trigger the message and light combo?

Not unless it's faulty and exceeding RF emission regulations.

Didn't want to start a new thread with my NOOB questions that have probably been answered 6000 times so here it goes.

I bought a 2011 GX460 in Feb of 2020 and so far its been a good truck, however, I live in Utah and tow a 5500 lb GVWR travel trailer. I did not buy the GX460 with the intention of using it as my full time tow rig, but it handles the trailer fine. The problem is, with the elevation, it lacks in the grunt department to be comfortable going out into Wyoming or Southern Utah on a day when its 90+F and there is a headwind. My primary tow rig is my 2014 F150 Ecoboost, which pulls like a freight train most of the time, but is huge and doesn't do so well offroad or on tight forest trails. It is a crew cab with a 6.5' bed and 157" wheelbase.

I am kinda thinking maybe an LC200 or LX570 might be a good option with the 5.7L and the extra 80hp/75 ft-lbs. I'd love to get one of the newer ones with the 8 speed transmission but that might be a little out of my price range. I think this might be just enough for me to tow comfortably in most conditions but still have a truck where I can get out and explore a little easier than the F150. Kinda kill two birds with one stone sorta deal. Any advice?

And I don't expect the LC200 to tow with the same confidence as my F150. But the GX does just fine other than power so I think it would be good enough.

Awesome of you to join mud, but kind of crazy to join a forum, jump into a thread that has nothing to do with your question and then ask an extremely vague question, that i assume that everyone on the 200 series forum is going to answer with..."yeah get a 200 series"...

On a side note...you had me going there for a sec, i was wondering how in the world you got 4runner wheels onto an LX.

although, in retrospect....this is the SQOTD thread...so maybe you are right on point.

I gotta start somewhere and figured it was a dumb questions  I own the GX and there is a GX subsection here so even if I don't buy a LX/LC I still have a place to go. ClubLexus is only ok and I begrudgingly use Facebook.

But yes, if I don't get an answer I'll start my own thread.

I don't tow, but a lot of guys on here do and without any exception that I can remember, the 200 series's towing ability is universally praised. I would think if you looked into the contributions of @linuxgod and @TeCKis300 you will find all you could ever want to know about towing with a 200 Series. Also, I think the 6 speed does just fine.

I believe you’re on the right track…. We sold a newer 4runner because it sucked in the power department….struggled uphill pulling our 3800lb camper(dry)…. Bought a Benz gl550 that had more than enough grunt but I couldn’t diy even motor mounts….all seemingly little things cost big. Bought the 200 recently because of its tried and true power plant. It tows our camper fine…..worlds better than the 4runner, just not as giddy as the Benz did…. It’s a fantastic and super reliable compromise. Looking forward to having it for several years…. I love its beastly simpleness…. I don’t know if the gx has air ride, but that was nice on the Benz to level things out, I still need to adjust our WDH for the lc but it squats a good bit at the moment…but you might miss that if you’re used to it. I think the LX might have it but it’s a face only a mother could love…..to me at least.

I’ve had the GX and currently own two 200 series trucks. There is no comparison in the towing capabilities and power of the two.

My GX does not have factory air, some do though. I added AirLift bags inside of the coils and that works pretty well with the WDH setup.

Like I said, the GX handles the trailer fine. I've cruised on I-80 in Wyoming at 70mph without any issues. It's just that when you hit a 7% grade you are pretty much foot to the floor doing 55 mph in good conditions. Fighting a strong headwind would be pretty bad. And I noticed on my last tow, when it was 93°F outside, the engine was really working.

You already know what you need to do……

The pre 2016 LXs aren’t as bad (re: ugly faces). They have a bit more than “air ride” in that they have AHC which is a dynamic hydraulic system that can adjust ride height, shock valving, as well as adjust automatically for different loads. The manual says AHC can handle about 1000lbs over the wheels before it starts struggling, and it’s been reported here that this is a conservative spec. Modifications can be made to increase that number as well. Also.. some people around here get sensitive when you call it air ride.. haha
