Very nice!

You spend all that cruiser money on that bike? I have an idea how much that bike is and it's not cheap.:flipoff2:

I got a Raleigh hard tail about a year ago but i was eyeballing a Giant 29er and Trek.

Lets just say I won't be adding a new 5-Speed to my list of upgrades this year... :flush:

The Trek full suspension bikes ride REALLY nice. I was on the fence about a Trek Remedy for a while, it was close enough that it came down to, among a few other very minor things, the special shock on the Trek vs. the more common style shock (more upgrade options) on the SC and the color schemes. (Trek's are too flashy for me...:meh:)

29er's are pretty cool, I test rode a couple. They roll over curbs and rocks like nothing, but they don't feel playful enough to me. So far I'm pretty happy with my choice to go 27.5"; it suits my riding well, although it does feel less responsive in extra tight berms than my last 26".

Be careful, the more time you spend looking into mountain bikes, the bigger your budget starts to get.... :censor:

...sorry, didn't mean the derail the thread guys, hahaha.

If there is room, I would be interested in this trip. Possibly bring my 5 yo boy. Be a good experience for him with cruiserheads.

Looks like a beautiful area that I have never been to and that is always a plus.

The forest is pretty big, I'm sure we could find some room for you. ;) I'll add you to the going list.

I would prefer to point downhill too!! Anyone have a fs I could use? 250 lbs, 6'1" short legs, shimano clipless shoes or plain shoes.
It will be super easy to run a shuttle rig down to bottom then back to top and rally away all day one day.... :D

You could rent one from Downieville Outfitters.

I'm game! We could park one in Downieville and another at Packer Saddle, ride one lap, drive to the top, get a second one in, get a shuttle from Downieville Outfitters back to the truck at the top and call it a day, or ride down again and claim the free beer they give you with the shuttle ride, (at least that's what I heard last year when I was up there), then catch another shuttle back to the trucks.

Whatever we end up doing, I'm going to need to put in a lot of seat time on my bike before July, or I'll barely be able to do one lap...

And world-class mountain biking for anyone from a little kid to a full-face helmet downhiller.

If we all booked sites now we could easily get into Packsaddle campground where there's a pit toilet and a great spring. We probably would need one site for two rigs, or maybe three.

This little double track leads to a decent unimproved campsite that could fit us all, but it could also be full of nayer-do-wells when we show up there. I'm not sure how it would go over to try to get there early and reserve it.

We could get a few sites in Packsaddle and use this for overflow.

There are a ton of better places off the road, on the west side of the hill, out in the trails. It just depends on how primitive or civilized people want to get when camping. I'm ok anywhere, but my wife won't come if there's no toilet. I'm ok with that too.

That double track is the same as one of the sites I posted before, so I'm fine with that one. Gold Lake 4x4 was the original idea and I can totally get behind making that the camp too.

However, like Jcardona1 mentioned, I like to avoid site fees whenever possible, and besides this is a 4x4 forum after all right?

If all goes to plan I'll be up there mid week, so securing whatever site we decide on shouldn't be too much of an issue.

The Gold Lake 4x4 campsite is pretty awesome. All sites are right on the water. Pit toilets with no roofs and some sites have picnic tables. That's it. Everyone there is driving some kinda cool 4x4 too.

I'll go with the groupthink on campsite. It's nice to have access to potable water. But all I really need is a place to set up. I'll defer to the locals on this one.

I'll be bringing my 5 Gallon jugs and filling them up from a hydrant at one of the developed campgrounds in the area before heading to wherever we end up camping.

Beer is 94% water :D

You'd be surprised how many people "limit" their runs to a set number of vehicles. Either due to campground / area size or just because they don't want to wait for a bunch of clowns. Usually on the more rocky and difficult trails, but I had to ask.

Well this one iant so much of a run as it is a big camping trip where we are just gonna have a summer weekend off and have fun. Realistically any 4x4 runs will be organize some people and call it good and go somewhere

The little dot in the center of this maps is the tastiest spring/well of all time.

Anyone else have a HAM license? Don't know if there's a repeater up there, but it seems like there would be.

I like packer lake campground for us but it might be too small, and I personally would prefer gold lake OHV campground as its on the water and towards the bigger offroad trails... we could try and reserve at least some spaces at the gold Lake OHV staging campsite by the marina for those not inclined to go on the gold lake 4x4 trail. just an idea

Finny we need to hang out more, whatcha doin sunday??? Oh and beer is a vegetable (hops)...much like wine is a fruit... :D

In church on Sundays... This is a busy week. Let's touch base next week.

how about Hollister in 2 weeks? GF wants to meet my parents in Livermore and we might be able to meet up and wheel for a day. ill try and get Darrell and a buddy to go too. id be game for lakes basin next week maybe though, idk how my schedule looks for truckee then. mtn runs up here all depend on snow levels but its not supposed to snow. gonna get to the 60s next week apparently :(

Looks like this is turning into quite the shindig!!!
I am definitely in but campground depends on who is with me. If the wife comes she would "prefer" a flushing toilet, ok with pits, hasn't experienced the "if a bear #$%@s in the woods does anyone smell it" scenario. She will possibly be traveling alot with her new gig so coule be just me or if she is gone I may drag along my BIL.

Definitely in for bike riding if it is just me or me and the BIL (he is somewhat of a rider).
Oh and this is my purple pony! (pointing downhill is great, but it is a lot better when you work your arse off to get up there!)

Would be interested in Hollister in Feb. I'm still tentative on the July stuff, who can plan that far out? Plus I'm most likely moving a little further away between now and then.

#&$#(@*!!!! Just got my smog notice in the mail and might be stuck doing that instead of hollister that weekend...we will see..

I will make this trip. I only live about an hour away (Susanville) and have been wanting to check out the area for years. Plus get a chance to meet some muders.
