Price $14,500 obo. Importation docs included. It's also listed on Ebay right now.

Got starry-eyed and bought this 75 on ebay: (wrong thumbnail below, but if you follow the ebay link, it will take you to the correct listing)

I mean, what could possibly go wrong with an imported 1993 Landcruiser from Central America with 1,875,000 miles on it? Guy barely spoke english, so I casually translated everything he said into: DO IT, IT’S FINE. BUY IT, IT’S AWESOME. DO IT! BUY IT!

So I wired a total stranger 16k and spend almost 2k getting it to the east coast. That’s right, I’m 18K in and I’m not ashamed. I’ve done dumber s*** than this…

Of course he said it was perfect, and me being the trusting person I am… believed him. Once I got it here, I shipped it to a shop I use and this is what they said (also see video):

  • Engine is crooked in bay. Needs new mounts.
  • No heater
  • Engine is pouring oil out because freeze plug popped out. Engine does run.
  • Driveshafts are loose
  • Axle hubs need to be rebuilt. Rear axle seems fine.
  • Truck having trouble staying in 1st gear.
  • no windshield wipers (totally over rated anyway)
  • Gas tank leaking (was braised, but a totally s*** job)
Here’s the good:

  • Frame solid and rust free. See photos/videos.
  • Body is straight and in fantastic shape. There is bodywork. Also a few minor dings/scratches and whatnot. No biggie
  • Paint looks really good with a few blemishes here and there.
  • New wheels and tires are awesome
  • Crazy unique
  • Interior pretty good!
  • Replacement parts in the original listing seem to be accurate.
Shop is saying it's all repairable, but quotes to have this all done by a shop are too high for me to continue.

It's relisted on Ebay for 14,500 allowing buyers to make offers as well.

Otramm has it. Says it's all repairable, but his rough estimate is around 15k, which is too much for me to swing. There is bodywork. The motor does run (but says he's confused as to how it's running). Says there's alot of gasket sealer where there should be gaskets (plan on rebuilding or repowering). They did drive it off the shippers truck and into it's current spot.

I'm going to have to take a bath on this. If you want it, go ahead and make an offer on the auction.

Sorry to hear this man. Any more specifics on "There is bodywork" please?

I just asked if there was bodywork. He said yes. I then asked "is it all bondo?" He said, no there's metal there, but there's a good amount of work on top of that metal..."

Man, what a bummer. I'm sorry. Having always thought of importing a 70, I've been following this, and it's precisely the situation one would fear in taking that risk.

Thanks. It's ok. Take my lumps and move on. Will be an expensive lesson, but will get past it.

Now, I'll face the truth about its actual value.

I just set the Ebay auction (with NO reserve) to 8k. I'm hoping I can fetch 11-12. If it's 8... we'll then it's 8. I'm at the mercy of the market. I'm 18k into this...

That's cheap enough for someone to slap the body on a donor 80 series. That'll let someone enjoy this and get out whole on the out-sale.

So sorry for you. Hope it sells to someone here on mud.

Bummer. I was hoping for a better diagnosis, but can’t say I’m surprised.

I agree with others I think it’s worth more than $8k for sure. I think you try to get the most you can and will be “ahead” money then trying to redo it.

It is a cool looking truck for sure. Good luck.

Got the bidding started for you.

Totally worth more than 8k, 14 to 18 sounds mor reasonable to me.

I will trade you a good running 93 80 series and a 95 80 with cloth interior, diff locks, good original paint but a bad engine.

I am well over $10k in both of these Cruisers.

Cheers

Thanks, the auction is underway and looking forward to just taking a breath.

I hate to hear that this happened to you man but sounds like it will be over soon. I once got suckered in to a business deal with a good "friend" and he ended up swindling me out of a boatload of cash. Sometimes these painful lessons are the ones we need to change habits. I know I learned mine the hard way! :)

Anyone on here buy it?
