Soft top or Hardtop? Or maybe both

You located a set of OEM bows with the hard door bend in the B pillar bow? I have never seen a set in the US.
Have a look and let me know what you think. I have seen two posts in the past with someone selling them and you commented on one of them.

I’m currently working on a 74 fj40 and recently picked up real steel soft top bows and a hardtop roof cap from a local member. I already have the rest of the hardtop pieces. I’ve been going back and forth on whether to run a hardtop or soft top. I really like the look of the hardtop but like the functionality of the soft top.
Also I don’t have a place to store the hardtop once removed unless I completely disassemble it and I feel like once it’s on it’s not coming off. I live in Ga and can gets pretty hot here. Anyone that has gone through this or any insight on one or the other I would appreciate it. Thanks
Like you I think the hard top is part of what defines the look of the FJ40. I do however like the factory style soft top or safari soft top I think some call it. I don’t think the best top soft top does the 40 justice as it makes it look like an American Jeep at first glance.

Anyway what I can tell you is that I’m currently installing the hard top properly with all the correct seals and packing and it seems as though you could prolly get a soft top for the price of the seals depending where you shop!

Anyway we like to run our 1970 CJ5 Jeep naked / no doors no top in the summer and the FJ in the fall or winter and im k with the hard top.

That said I’m sure I’ll order a factory style soft top sooner than later on of these days. I think they look pretty dam cool.

I agree with you 100% on the best top. Looks to close to a jeep. Have to do a double take when you spot one.

Has anyone suggested "get a second cruiser"?
Hardtop AND no top.

@Living in the Past do those look OEM from overseas?

Only thing I see different than my OEM bow other than the back piece for ambulance doors is the crossbar between the B pillar and back. My newest bows are 2/73. Can see it's more refined. But it possible Toyota redesigned those. They also have the hard door bend in the B pillar. Hard to tell but they may have a cap were the interior light goes. If they are OEM they look very close. By the time the bows from Pakistan started showing up I already have a few sets of bows. Personally for a soft top I like the soft side doors that are easy to remove. Would have been nice I we would have had the two piece ambulance doors. I have never seen those on a top that didn't have hard doors on the front.

Thanks! I’m probably getting to hung up on if they are OEM are not. However that being said I prefer OEM and will pay more anytime of the day for them. I’m getting the set from someone on here that I trust. However whoever sold them to that individual said they are OEM from overseas. I was trying to determine if they where OEM are the Pakistan ones are however was reproducing them a few years ago.

Also it’s a plus because I do prefer the hard doors over soft but the soft doors did grow on me.
