So now my 80 looks like a giant Oreo Cookie (bedliner/LOTS OF PIX!!)

So was the white that was showing the original paint? When you did the tan addition was it difficult to the lines to match up and transition smoothly with the black liner?

When I taped off for the tan, I used blue plastic 3M tape and let it overlap just a hair over the black just to make sure there was total coverage

Then I scuffed down the edge really good so that it feathered with the painted surface before lying down epoxy sealer....

old thread, but still sweet pix. I enjoy looking at your ride...

how does it hold up with normal dings?

Down here in Houston, that black would be YELLOW with pollen right now...

:)

So how does the black fair with UV exposure? I'm considering a whole body job, but my rig never sees a garage. I don't want to invest in something that looks wasted in three years.

Love your truck BTW.

It's been holding up just great :)

She sits outside (won't fit in my garage due to height and an elephant) and has been baking in the Florida sun on a daily basis since day one without any signs of fading :)

The same goes for my Kei truck and Golf Cart

Very low maintenance since dirt doesn't stick to it like paint and washing is handled by mother nature ;)

I might hit it with a hose from time to time to wash off bird $h!t and bugs on the windshield

So, can you share any expert details on what to and what not to do when doing one of these jobs? Do you recomend a sealer primer? My truck has no rust to speak of except fora few tiny spots where rocks have chipped the paint. I do have some clear coat peeling and plan to put a DA sander to good use before I spray anything.

Also, I want to aim at the finer end of the texture scale, but more important than that will be consistency. Any suggestions for air pressure, nozzle distance, temperature, humidity, etc? I've got a good compressor and filtration, but no spray booth, but I might look for one if you think that is necessary for proper results.

At this point, I'm thinking head to toe black with black wheels. My only real hesistation is I will be turning my rig into a seven seat oven!

Yes, definitely use a sealer primer.

If you shoot directly over an unsealed surface, it will still rust and the bed liner will just encapsulate it :o

Depending on the type of gun you're using, higher pressure and no less than 24" to surface will give you smooth, fine, consistent results

Lower pressure usually results in a thick, uneven finish :o

Going from a white rig to black bed liner, I didn't notice that much of a difference in interior heat :meh:

My intention was to use the gun included in the kit. Any issues with that? Should I invest in something different?

And to be sure I hear you right, The nozzle should be 2 feet or more away from the body for a fine pattern?

Thanks a million!

The stutz gun that comes with the Raptor kit is as good as any, just make sure you disassemble and clean it after use.

Yes, high pressure and more distance will give you less texture and more even finish.

Low pressure and shorter distance will give you a thicker texture and the finish will tend to build up, making it harder to get an even finish.

Couldn't agree more. High pressure is a must for a nice finish and the spray gun works great.

I think I sprayed with around 80psi or so. How much pressure did you use snake eater?

60-70psi works fine and the texture pretty much stays the same above that

Anything above 80psi just empties the bottle quicker and creates more over spray (sticky shop floors)

Wow!.... simply Wow!

Great job 98snake!

What back bumper rig is that? custom?

Hefty Wings (also bed lined)

98 Snake Eater friggin' SWEET write up!!! I like they way you did it in stages to get the final look.

I was thinking of doing hot pink on my Lexus and I just started looking @ Monstaliner DIY roller kit.

Did you do this in Orlando/FL & curious what this would cost in 1 color?

AWESOME CRUISER DOOD!!!!

Looks terrific. As my paint job continues to deteriate from years of driving through the rough Texas brush, I am getting closer to just repainting the whole thing in bedliner. Nice to see a great job like this.

Yes, I did it at my shop in Orlando.

You'll need about 3 kits to cover an 80 from top to bottom.

Were you in Gainesville today? A black and tan landcruisin' oreo drove by me on the opposite side of the road and I said "HOLY-COW i think i just spotted 98 SNAKE EATER".... my passenger said, "oh my, you saw someone eating 98 snakes?"

AWESOME RIG!!!! i truly dig the black & white you did first but I'm going to admit the black & tan is uniquely sweet.

98 SNAKE EATER, in another thread someone mentioned you had a special way of getting really straight/crisp edges on your bed liner jobs. I looked through this thread but didn't see it. Can you give me some details or point me to the thread where you explain it?

Thanks

WOW, all RTS buses... that's a pretty sweet contract! I really drove around today and i saw a few 100 series, your 80 series and two 60 series. Today was a good day, yours was the coolest without doubt!!!! The tutone bedliner and rear wheel bumper took all my attention... I didnt see the roof rack :/ I was tempted to make a quick u-turn to give the two thumbs up. :D
