So Gumby do you have any Tundra reports?

I like it a lot. So far there's not much I'd change.

I'm living fine without the Limited package. The SR5 black cloth really does work well for me. The dark blue paint is constantly dirty, but that's the way it goes. The rear door is a bit huge, but I'm getting used to it. I can pack a weeks worth of groceries on the floor in front of the rear seats, and I have two teenagers. It still needs some storage for tie downs, chains, binders, hitch, etc. Once I get a tonneau that'll be no problem.

The motor is fantastic. It's fast and stupid powerful. It makes sexy sounds when you push on the skinny pedal. Pulls the 55 and trailer (6500+ lbs) and gets 15 mpg. Trans works well. It doesn't hunt for the right gear. It just pulls. At 45 mph, it's turning about 1200 rpm in 6th. step on the pedal and it just starts pulling. Big difference to the FJC that would drop down a gear it that situation.

At 65 mph with the pig on and a strong headwind and in tow/haul mode it did kick down a lot, but I was driving into a 25 mph wind with a 10ft brick on the back. Without the wind, even in the twisty, hilly roads it pulled very nice.

Right now the biggest problem I have is that it's way too fun to use the loud pedal all the time. I'm gonna start getting tickets.

I had it up in the air today just to check it out.

Still haven't found the oil filter, but I didn't look to hard.

The drive shaft, rear end and brakes are freakin' huge.

I dropped the four bolts off of the exhaust before the muffler to listen to the 5.7. It was really, really nice.

I think I might have to go abuse a sock now.

If you read what some of the domestic truck enthusiasts have been saying on other forums, you wouldn't be so impressed, you see, what you were looking at was just mini-truck hardware that was upsized a little bit! :D

Gumby,
There is no spin on oil filter on the 5.7, it is a cartridge type filter that you must get from Toyota. I hear that changing the oil is a huge PIA because if you don't attach a plastic drain hose to the filter housing oil will be everywhere! Some guys have been claiming that it has taken upwards of two hours to change the oil, with taking the skid plate off, etc.

don't mean to hijack the thread intended for gumby, but i'm lovin mine too. Much roomier than my 04 tundra and more powerful. The sounds system is great and the double cab has plenty fo room for my kids. I wish they had the bench available in more models. i just had to get as many features as I could.
Just wish I could find something cool to mount a couple of hellas on the front for the long back roads drivin up to the parents in WYO.

Did you dump the stock tires already? The BFG's look great!

Bumper

ARB does make a front bumper for the new Tundra, I haven't seen it, but I know the local shop ordered one.... $1800 WOW.

Ryan.

update

Really starting to like the CrewMax cab.

I took it in to get some scratches color sanded out that the prep guys had put in when getting it ready.

They cave me a double cab to drive.

The truck looks better, but then a regular cab looks even better yet.

The rear area is not any better at hauling cargo even though the seats fold up where the CrewMax fold down. There is almost as much room in front of the CM seats as there is with the DC seats up. I also found a couple of tool boxes that fit nicely behind and under the CM seats, so I have permanent storage and seating room.

The bed area is not appreciably bigger. There might be something I have to haul where the 6" would make a difference, but I don't know what that'd be.

I miss the sliding rear window. I'm sure I would miss the window defroster too.

This truck has the extendo mirrors where mine doesn't. Cool. They are pretty far down my gotta have add ons. Behind a tonneau and the back up camera and some other stuff.

I need a short bed regular cab for an evening to figure out what I want at the end of this lease. A supercharger and a TRD exhaust would make it a bad ass Lightning killer.

sorry, been a while. Yeah I dumped the bfg's that came with the TRD package on the truck and got the BFG AT's. I had a 500 gift cert i had to use up and the place only carried BFG or some other no-names. Come to find out after it was finished, the cert was not valid. Apparently had an expiration. BLAST! Anyone want a new set of BFG tires with about 300 miles on them? Still with the dealer armor-all.

If I had to do it again, I think I would have gotten some Toyos. They are supposedly a little larger and might have looked cooler. My parents have some on their FJcruiser and they say they are real nice Tires. I also put a leveling kit on the front so it's not so saggy. Looks a little better I think. I'm still getting used to the bigger truck, harder to park than my old tundra, but I like driving it a lot. Bluetooth and sonar is pretty cool. I plan to put the camera in soon and some kind of bedliner. haven't decided which kind.

If you get going to fast the mat will want to fly out... It is amazing that it didn't, while 2/3rds of it was up in the air. I realized in a test drive, that you have to warn people in the back seat, that might not have their seat belt on, that you are going to check the brakes. Otherwise you will face plant them in the back of the front seat, if not the middle of the front window.

Well, I just broke 750 miles on mine. After only two weeks of in county driving. LOL. I got the dualcab 5.7. Cold package, SR5 package, and TRD package. Wanted the Crewmax, but the dealer did not have one in 2wd. Didn't need 4x4; since this purchase was specifically to tow my Land Rovers for off-roading and my business's boats. As a tow vehicle, my primary concern was tow capacity, torque, and turning radius. This truck is amazing in all three.
I went onto Ford's website, and this truck has a higher towing capacity then a f-250. Unless you buy the diesel option. In fact the f-350 with gas v8 is less than the Tundra also. Since they don't make a Tundra diesel yet, I'd have to call this new truck a 3/4 ton, not a 1/2 ton, as it's advertised. The lowend torque is amazing. And when you put the tranny in tow/haul mode, you don't even know ther's a trailer behind you. And I absolutely love the towing mirrors.
