Slee Front Bumper

I like the design but hoping for upper bar option too. good idea to have a removable plate to cover the mouth area when not winching. like you said the big open hole aids in reeling in the winch line but that is probably only 1% of the time. the cover should be removable, to keep it there to protect the line while traveling. i don't think the cover has to be HD(maybe)

On the front bumper design - I really like it. I like the access to the wench, the ability to use the 12K, and the lines on the wings. We are getting closer to the point where I can actually skuttle the original bumpers (both front and back) and make the truck "mine". We will still be using it for family hauling, since we have 4 kids and it is the only thing that I will buy that is big enough to haul the entire bunch. Would like to see the rear bumper have easier access to the swing out, because I REALLY like the idea of picking and choosing between the two swing outs. That is very appealing. Overall, I have to say that I will be keeping my eyes on these and hopefully, my hands.... one day.

OK. This is a shout out! Any news? I wasn't able to make Moab (wedding down in Napa, CA on the same weekend - those pesky relatives!) Would love to hear any new news and more pics.

Slee - When will your new bumper be shown on your website / the unveiling gala?

It is #1 on my list of needs (wants?), just in front of your sliders. Gotta do things in the correct order, or at least in an order allowing me to sneak them in the house ;-)

Thanks,

Jonathan

I'm less about looks than function and cost. Christo's front design is intriguing from a functional POV. I like the option to mount a larger "wench" :p Cost remains to be seen.

I bought genericLC's rear bumper (and sliders) and am very happy with it. Even as a third owner it is a stout functional bumper. I'm very glad that Eric welded the closed position pin-hole though. That would drive me crazy.

The only thing I would like on the original design is a lockable latch. Maybe a spare tire jerry can mount when range is more important than rear clearance. I'd be perfectly happy with that.

The dual swing-out rear does not appeal to me at all. I appreciate the attempt to provide a more feature-configurable option, but I don't need it. And double the pivots is double the hassle just to get into the back.

We are working on pricing and what needs to still be done before the production run. Once I have everything ready I will update the site with pics etc.

Here is a teaser side shot showing the differences in wing design and also the differences in how far it stocks out. The truck on the left has about 1" more lift.

OK...so if I see the pics correctly I see that:

*The side wings are back farther on the Slee (good)

*The bottom of the side wings however are higher from the ground on the ARB (and after factoring in the lift hiehgt difference) (good)

Seems like a wash?

Actually it is not. Right in front of the tire we have about 5 degrees extra approach angle. I actually measured it. That is not taking lift height into account.

Gotcha. I was viewing it as though there was a rock under the bumper wing. Looks like the ARB will clear the taller rock without scraping. Looks like your bumper will clear the taller obstacle better (something higher than the bumper wing bottom itself).

Why isn't the approached measured at the lowest part (center) of the bumper? Measured at the wings does not seem to give the actual approach available.

This was just one of the places we measured it. Most times if you want to climb a rock, you are going to try to get the tire up, not the nose. Unless it is a ledge, and even then an angled approach is better. Again lift height is not taken into account. We put a piece of wood in front of the tires to get the spot in the middle of the truck.

Here are the center measurements. These are the leading edges, but ignoring our tow points and the ARB bumperetes.

Good Lord is that true on the 100. I had to turn "into" the Golden Crack so not to hit the bumper. Kenny's Climb the same (people were saying JOHN...GO AT IT STRAIGHT...JOHN...these folks never wheeled 100's...I was at it about 30-degrees and still scraped the center part a touch on account of that dip before the climb).

I am all for the smallest side wings possible!

In most cases (if there is a clearance issue heads on) I would try to work the nose up at an angle, then straighten out, instead of going straight, unless the angled approach puts you at to much risk of a roll-over.

Just a note, one could make a smaller bumper, but a good looking smaller bumper, that will be a challenge.

True. And you recent pics show your bumper to look better than in that first pic.

I have another outlook on current needs..........

You being SLEE OFF-ROAD, and the fact that 80-series rigs are scarce, and the fact that soon the 100 will be the "wheeler of the Cruisers" (because they're the newest and available Series).....ARB already has the buyer covered who wants good looks and good functionality.
My desire is for a Slee Rock Crawl Bumper. Looks aside...make something for all those 60 to 80 to now 100-wheelers. The 100 needs help...mini-up that front bumper...help the 100 out. I'm not asking for some mini tube fab POC by the way. Micro-size this new style bumper!

Sure, I can do that, but it will be like a G-String on a really fat chick. Might work, but not something you want to see. I could google and image and give you an idea :D

I have to say that I really like the looks of this bumper. Very sleek and there is no mistaking it for any other brand. I like that. I even showed it to my wife who agreed. Now, I am looking toward when I need to budget for it, how much and if we (the wife and I) should take a road trip to CO, when we are ready to purchase and have Slee Off-Road install it, along with sliders.... although, it might end up being the front bumper and a lift to keep me from dragging my front lip.

OK, this brings up a question: If I want to install this bumper, what type of lift would I need to bring it back up to stock height or a bit higher. I would like to go to larger tires.... nothing drastic, but a bit larger and those will be purchased and installed in Aug '09. I am not as much of a rock climber as Shotts is, but I would like a bit more clearance.

Also, do they make a horn that makes the Pac-Man sound..... going down the highway, behind a Miata going "Wacka, wacka, wacka" would be hilarious!

John, I had to watch the video a couple of times. Was amazed that you didn't scrape the back bumper, given the amount of rotation the 100 had to do with that indentation in front of the climb. WOW!
