Not to overly hijack, but does anyone have a source for replacement gas pedal pads, or retrofitting a later model gas pedal setup.

Will this work for ya?

Believe it or not....go to Bonanza.com and search Toyota pickup. I got my clamshell for my 82 there (in blue....but my truck is blue.). Shocking amount of reproduction stuff there.

Nice score on a nice truck. Treat it right.

Thanks for the link. My dad always said “treat them right and they’ll take you anywhere”. I plan on doing nothing less for this truck.

None of my doors were locking properly so I removed the door panels today. Applied some WD40 to the components and the ps lock works now, although it seems like the ds lock cylinder was broken into at some point. I was able to source a full Hilux lock cylinder replacement set from @ToyotaMatt . Thanks again Matt!

Also itemized all the exterior and interior parts I need for this truck on eBay today. Was able to find everything except for the “Box” in the dash just above the radio pictured in red:

Also looking for the correct AC compressor mounting bracket for my 20R. Seems there is a federal and California spec version of the bracket. Anyone know which one I would need?

Waiting on the parts haul I ordered to come in, decided to paint the rims in the meantime. Always loved the white wagon wheel look on cruisers and went for the same look on this truck.

Dismounted the old steel rims:
(To the right is my first project car, 67’ Mustang that I just finished up a few weeks ago)

Did the other side and mounted them back on the truck today and took the truck for a ride, they turned out awesome!

Like father like son. Dejavu. I did the same with Kermit, 1976 FJ40 a few years ago.

get some vinyl floor material and cut it to fit! Cheap, durable, and easy especially with that small cab. Real trucks don't have carpet!

Nice find, have fun with it and keep us updated.

Couple of observations for you. The truck does not seem to have the anti-theft plates installed in the doors. Look into getting some (cheap). Also the 4spd trans, L43, is a bit weak with anything larger than stock H7815 tires. So be careful with the skinny pedal while playing around.

Funny you mention anti-theft. @SipLife and I just spoke about theft over dinner. We were not aware of them.

Early trucks were simple enough to steal with just a pencil. Slip pencil up under the door handle and push up on the lock rod. Plate just slips in and snaps in place. Used to be a recall item, don't know if they are still available from dealer or from other sources.

@siplifeHey have you tried Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Parts and Accessories Online
Or
I was able to source alot of new interior parts for my 82 SR5 4x4, but definitely cross check each part between sites, some prices are alot cheaper.

Thanks for the links! Will do. I already picked up a new brown dash from toyotapartsdeal. Didn’t know you could still purchase the Radio Bezel surround trim new. Good to know.

Your truck is in amazing shape.
We have a 1980 long bed 4x4.
It still drives great, has had a lot of rust though.
The transmission has been handling 33” tires just great also.

Thanks , good to know the stock trans can handle 33” just fine. Worst rust spots on this truck are in the front ds lower rocker, ps floorboard, and a few small holes on the bedside where water tried to escape from the bed when the bed drains got blocked. Other than that she’s solid!
