My name is Liam, I’m 17 years old, I come from a family of cruiser heads and I’ve been saving up to buy my own truck for awhile now. Found this old 1980 Hilux pickup while biking around my neighborhood. Took pictures of the truck and sent them to a close friend of mine. He said that he was good friends with the owner, who had originally purchased the truck to get his kids involved but they had no interest in it. His kids are heading off to college now so he wanted to offload the project. It’s a 20R 4spd PS AC 4wd car. Long story short, I got in touch with the owner and purchased the truck.
She’s mine!!

When I first saw the truck:

Planning to turn this truck into a reliable daily and a bit of a weekend wheeler with Patina.

First order of business was a bath. Started scraping the 40 year old caked dirt out of the bed rails with a bristle brush and a plastic paint scraper in the hard to reach areas.

Then I gave the rest of the body an initial washdown and began scrubbing the “dirt” in the paint out with a slightly abrasive sponge. Here’s a spot example:

@SipLife - this looked more like a kid who got a puppy! I love this. Can't wait to see where you take this truck. Congrats on the find - definitely looks like a SOLID truck.

Thank you haha. The truck is mechanically solid, 20R runs strong, shifts smooth, no leaks (I know, shocker). The body is straight with a few minor rust areas. The interior needs work, but these trucks all need love somewhere.

Hey Congrats on the (new) truck. They're great rigs and very "Land Cruiser" ish.

This will definitely be a fun build to follow - you and your dad do great work!

Please tell me those chineese LED's on the cowl are going right???

Sourcing interior components is the main challenge on this truck. Plan on keeping the Honda variant seats, center console, and door panels. Everything else will need to be sourced (dash bezel, climate control mechanism, steering column clamshell, etc

Anyone know a good source for interior parts for these trucks? Tried Yotayard, Facebook Marketplace, etc. Might have to source individual parts off of eBay for now.

Believe it or not, Toyota. As long as you don't mind the color blue. Which is no big deal, Vinyl Color Spray and plastic-compatible spray paint! Also eBay.

Wow. Really?

Not to overly hijack, but does anyone have a source for replacement gas pedal pads, or retrofitting a later model gas pedal setup.
