, I think it broke on the previous trip above when I broke an axle. Didnt realise the locker broke, continued 4x4ing and a 200km drive home, didnt notice any problems. Parked the car up, went to get it ready for the next trip, drove out my driveway and found it was permanently locked.

pretty much what happen to me too .. I snap 2 front inner and then figure in my my next trip that I was permanently locked .. Not sure 100% but that could be exactly my case ..

Finished pulling the locker down last night.

Final list of parts I am replacing, pinion gears and shims x4, cross shaft block x1, Piston x1, Clutch gear x1. Should have all the parts, new from ARB this week. Only used parts will be the pinion gears which I picked up from a mates Nissan RD78 locker, they arent perfect but usable and FREE!.

Nearly every other parts in the locker has some form of damage, but with a file and die grinder I will get it working again. Once fixed I am going to swap this locker into the front and move the current front to rear.

I was actually quite happy that I could get the parts from ARB, though they are coming from all over Australia (Broome, Mackay to Melbourne).

In the mean time I have been working on a few other items, new steering column from a HZJ75 was swapped in, my old coloumn was broken near the top allowing heaps of side movement. Gave me a good chance to tidy up the wiring and move it all above the column. Have also fixed my bullbar which after a few knocks was pointing downward. Turns out the majority of the mounting bolts were loose. Also need to replace one of my HID units which has failed, hopefully a mate has one cheap.

Nice pics, and sorry for the f...ing ARB Locker, that`s is the reason to change the locker-diff system ;)

Thanks, I would like the change to a TJM pro locker, but then again I dont know of any locker internals being stronger/weaker than the ARB. The ARB parts that broke on mine look like high quality machined gears. No $$$ to change either, hopefully have my ARB back in and repaired for less than $200 incl oil and a new gasket.

Another side project that I am trying to get happening is a brake upgrade. Have a 80 series brake booster to fit and already have HZJ75 calipers fitted, which have larger pistons and pads. Being a BJ74 the master cylinder is different to nearly every other toyota, so I want to machine out my stock master from 7/8'' to 15/16'' and fit HZJ75 internals.

I tell you cars sometimes, driving on the weekend my gearshifts started getting rather difficult... checked today and there is fluid in the boot on the clutch slave cylinder, emptied it, pumped the clutch ~20 times, more fluid, damn, lucky they are easy to get.

Go for the 80 series Master for your brakes... makes for a much better pedal feel and more positive stops.

Well got the Safari Tuff clutch in and lockers both back in, swapped front to rear etc. I made no other adjustments when putting the clutch in, just machined the flywheel and put it in and WOW!! what a difference! It is SOOOO much better than the 4 terrain. I was never really happy with the 4 terrain, it ALWAYS transmitted some drive even when the pedal was fully down, leading to crap shift quality and hard to get gears from a stop. The Safari tuff bites hard on the take up and gives a spot of shift feel and easy to get gears from a stop now!! So far highly recommended!

Thanks for this now I know what to put in next time round and I fear its coming up by XMAS.

Do you have the part no to order one? Did you change the pressure plate or leave it?
