Coupla pics from a recent outing, in total broke 3 lancruiser rear axles, one patrol front cv and one patrol front axle.

Check out the flex, still got the sway bar in too!

Just saw very few snapped like that in my life ..

All the ones we broke (3 of, two short side and one long side) were stock Full float axles with standard studs and dowels. FF axles typically break in that spot, which is great, very easy fast repair.

How did those cap screws hold up on the rear axle? Would you recommend them?
I am hoping to do this on my rear axles and front hubs down the road.

I dont run capscrews anymore, to much of a PITA to remove etc. Gone back to stock studs and cone washers. They are stronger than the standard axles anyway, broke 3 axles, no stud failures.

The size I think was M8x45 they were the shortest ones I could get with a shank, I still had to trim then down a little to fit.

Yeah its an RD33 with bolt in seal housing, which I think is older than the clip in models. I think its around 5 years old, I think it broke on the previous trip above when I broke an axle. Didnt realise the locker broke, continued 4x4ing and a 200km drive home, didnt notice any problems. Parked the car up, went to get it ready for the next trip, drove out my driveway and found it was permanently locked.

Major damaged - 3 pinion gears, shims and the plastic piston. Minor damage, gouges and a heap of marks to many other various interior parts.

Getting prices now on the bits.
