We dropped in a reman starter and she turned right over.....so we put 6 miles on it driving around the neighborhood and unfinished road that crosses our neighborhood lakes to phase 2.

Need to check headlight wiring but otherwise its running well.

By debate do you mean your incessant babble while she says yes dear every 10 min or so?

No I mean my wife on mud and other sites comparing colors and discussing exactly what david pointed out......Capri blue was the only one of the 2 for 1971.

Our incessant babbling has also had her suggest a grey soft top and reconditioning the doors.....I think she is getting into it after 3 cruisers. :bounce:

She's fooling you. You will sell as soon as she says "pool"

I call dibs when you get a pool.

I think that's a road that's been well traveled all ready.

We have a Neighborhood pool and besides, back yard would need $10k in dirt work.....we will just come use yours when your in perdido

No can do, I've got dibs on the pool while they are in Perdido.

Fireman, ill take the risk seeing as I live 20 mins away and you are in .....well......Texas!

Cruiser update:

Order every piece of rubber needed to refurb my doors. (they rattle like crazy with virtually no rubber inside or outside.) LostMarbles has an incredible detailed thread on total disassembly and what parts worked best for him. I won't be tearing my down very far unless I run into rust issues.

Close to ordering a metal tech cage. Any opinions on this? I know alot of the club has them. I am hoping I can order one in pieces and persuade Jrob to fire up that welder for me sometime in the next few months. (I'm treading lightly here as I know JT is full steam ahead!!) There are a few other cages but I like the MT name and the fact it's a true full coverage cage for the kids in the back. (It has also been tested and fits under the Trollhole soft tops.)

Everyone keep your eye out for some bows as well. No matter if they are stock or not. I've found a few companies that fab them but since I have a lot of time until I buy a top (ie saving dineros) I can be picky if I start shopping months out from needing them.

MTF ....just waiting on a box full of window parts now and enjoying riding in the cruiser. Also got the headlights working but have a few "funny wires" that need to be checked.

Adding a Metal Tech cage, even ordered as a kit is a lot of work. If you do go that route, make sure you pay extra and get the tubes notched. They used to sell them both ways and the I notched version is a bear.

With the cost of the kit, shipping and cost to have installed (if you can't get a freebie install), you can likely get someone local to build you one.

Will check them out. Thanks.

Order a cage from MT already welded up. That is what I would do with a unaltered 40. It will cost more to ship but the time to get welded and the money to get a kit put together equals it out. DONE & DONE...

Agree I have built two MT cages and it's a lot of work.

congratulations on the new truck - blue it the best color

BTW, the window crank handle on the inside of the driver side door is in the incorrect position - in OEM configuration, the crank handles were mounted above the center of the square panel, not below - you can turn the panel with the crank handle upside down, gives you a chance to lubricate the window runs and crank mechanism at the same time - but if it works, I probably wouldn't mess much with it myself :meh:

Thanks on the cage advice guys.

Claudia, I too lve the blue, as for the window I'm taking the "if it's not broke don't break it mentality" but when I redo the door rubber/glass/felt I'll see what's up inside.

Will be using this excellent thread, https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/370889-tackling-doors.html, to install this....

But not in my 22 degree garage right now!

Sorry but this thread won't have earth shattering tech like JTs build.........I'm just tinkering in here.....move along
