this is the rub. I refuse to have something that looks like a toilet connection coming out the side of my truck. I've poked around looking for good ideas and just can't seem to find anything that looks good and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
The closest idea I've come across is a piece of 2.5"-3" exhaust pipe bent to the proper contours with a snorkel head attached but still not really a fan.
I agree. I stopped really looking a few years ago. But, like you, I've been re-inspired.
I think I may try to do what I've always envisioned doing: which is to just run the intake through the firewall into the cab. I don't need to have the ability to take my crawler through 60" of water, but I do want to not have to worry so much about situations like we had that night. Being in the cab, especially high and centered, will be plenty of room for comfort. If the water is getting to that point, the whole engine, CB & radio, and even the gas tank are all under water... So I think I'd either be getting out myself, or at least it'd be shut down anyway.
hey Steve--I saw the movie District 9 a few years ago in the theater and remember the snorkels they had on the built trucks from that movie. Forgot about it since then but it was on TV tonight as I ws buzzing through channels and caught a scene with an up close of the snorkel. I hit rewind on the ole' DVR and took this pic with the celly, definitely different and real close to the body panels.
could do without the bird feeder on top but I've seen lots worse.
