which way is the opposite way on 12? up hill or down. at gsmtr a couple of us took our 80s up it then it started to rain so we were on it half the night. I'd like to do it again but maybe down this time. it's a really pretty trail but in the rain it was a little harder on my truck than I think I want to be this time.

I've run it 3 times and always north to south, fairly moderate trail except for 1 hill near the end. I'd think running S to N would negate that one hill.

Getting excited!

week from tomorrow! :cheers::cheers:

Sweet, what time you think you'll role in Thur night? Aside from Tr 75 on Friday any thoughts on where else ya wanna run? Just thinking out load here... we could do 12 in the opposite direction for a little more moderate ride, depending on who shows it might be a good mix for both the moderate guys and the not-so-mod guys.

or

Down Tr. 3 to 40A (rail trail by-pass) to Caddy Hill and then out. This would not be a wagon friendly ride though.
Probly won't even be Thursday night; Friday wee hours is more likely; Just like at GMP last time.

I looked at the map and like your ideas. 12 the other way shouldn't be too bad for a capable wagon 'cept for Zack's tree. If we got out early enough, we could come off 12 and go right over to 3/40a/Caddy.
Also, depending on how quick 75 goes Friday, and who's interested, I wouldn't mind going to try 8 & Atomic Ridge.
Only other thing that pops into mind is the rock garden off 16.

bummer, I told you that tennis elbow wouldn't go away unless you switched hands. :hillbilly:

Just doesn't feel right in the other hand....

Do you'll know of a trail there similar to 12 (slightly challenging and scenic) that doesn't have that door crunching tree to squeeze by. super40/fattires has a really pretty rig that I'd hate to see damaged but I'd like to show him and whoever else isn't going with the big boys Saturday a scenic yet challenging day. I'm thinking going up 22 but from there I'm not sure, other than to 12 and down but I don't wanna be that guy that leads somebody else to where they'll damage their rig.

I'll look at the map and see what I can find, but off hand I'd say 12, 16, 22 are fair choices *if dry*. Otherwise, the wagon group might enjoy going up north and exploring. From the little I've seen, those trails are significantly more scenic (higher elevations I think) and generally they're low-level trails with occasional challenging spots.

Trail 12 is probably not the best place for a beauty rig, it is possible to wind your way through unscathed but would take great care and perhaps a little luck. Never been up to the north side but I'd think Carryville Flats would make a great full day ride for more moderate trails and overlook seekers.

Looking at the online map it appears the north side is full of moderate trails but of course makes for a long day: http://windrockpark.com/our-trails/trail-map/

Henry, I don't know if I'll have the time to load up the motor on this trip, but I'll be in Atlanta on the 19th and can most likely get it to you then if you like.

Henry scares us all enough out on the trails; I don't think we need him continuing that after we get back and are already working on trying to unsee what we witnessed from him that day!

This and the above post could put a dent on the trail we want to run next month. Looks like the Rail Trail area has gotten hammered by all the rain this year. I hope they have gotten it cleared up or will in the next few weeks.

Also... Apparently there's an issue with how you get to the trail head of Tr 39

From the Trail supervisor of Windrock on 6/11/13 ...
"Gravel 39 is blocked with a Landslide. The area affected is between the Exit of Cadillac Hill and the beginning of Trail 39."

This is that long arse gravel road that we all took pics of the windmills from and how we have always gotten to the trail head of 39. From GSMTR '13
I just surfed around on KnoxOffroad looking for an update on this topic but couldn't find it. You been following it anywhere or happen to already know if there's any progress in the clean up and repair efforts?

No new information but I thought I'd read the road blockage is well after the top of Tr 3. I've seen very recent pics of the top of 3 to support that it's open to wheel so we can get there. What I don't know is where exactly the blockage is so getting from the Cadillac Hill exit at the top may prove to be a longer trip than normal because we'd have to go around the other way. We'll just have to inquire at check-in.

Regarding the actual coal pile, no idea really but I'm assuming this will take a little time. The result is that trail 40 (aka-Rail Trail) is closed at the coal pile restricting access down rail trail to the creek bottom.

Remember Tr 40A? This is where we all winched up that slick a$$ hill over the new years ride in the snow. I am hoping/assuming we could take Tr 3 down to the bottom where it intersects 40 (left) & 40A (right) to bypass the coal pile work. This would bypass the creek crossing/winch fest we went through last time... and the time before that.... and the time before that... which gets us close to the base of Cadillac Hill. If all goes well this should be a good ride, if badly, we will have a lot of fun getting rigs off Caddy Hill. Just an option I was thinking of.

city boy thought he was going to be one with nature and sleep under the stars... and was hypothermic by midnight!! i got holes in my new sleeping bag from being too close to the fire. who was the guy that had pitty for me and let me use there extra tent.? saved my as-. it was way cold that night. sha i forgot all about that. i stuffed a tent & sleeping bag under the seat before i shipped the 40. i owe someone a beer for sure. hey dannyp, do you remember who it was?

Well I know no one else has been on WR/T75, but I figured maybe we could go ahead and have the debate now, on here, on which direction to run it instead of Friday morning when we're trying to get there AEAP to wheel.

The direction I ran it - south to north:
-The majority of the sheer drop-offs are on the passenger side so somewhat less nerve-racking... for the drivers.
-The big ledge that's been talked about so much is a matter of finesse and good spotting to come down; I doubt the traction is good enough to crawl it going the other way. Having to bump/bounce/throttle up this could have some drivers questioning their sanity and some passengers getting out to watch. Plus, if anyone does need/want to winch up it, there will have to be a truck already up there to anchor to because I don't recall there being anywhere on the bare rock to hook anything.
-The exit was a 2' climb-out directly onto a road. Not the busiest road, but visibility was terrible and you have to leave it in 4wd so it's a little sketchy. On the other hand, just being able to find this spot for entering might be hard; Although it's probably been used a lot since I ran it so that may not be the case anymore.
-The gas station where I hope they are going to let us park is much closer to the north exit in terms of drive time. But again, all blacktop.

I'll probably think of more to add so watch for edits. And I just realized that Ted, you're probably the only person on here that will be driving it AND on here to discuss it. Oh well, I guess you and I get to decide. :steer:
