I found a mint set of seats for free from a 2005 Tacoma on CL. Made some base brackets and used universal sliders for the new seats since they did not come with any. Huge improvement over the stock seats even after SOR seat foam replacement.

Are your brackets stiff? It looks like they might be a little springy if its just flat stock steel? Otherwise you did a nice job of making them.

I scored the bar where I wanted the bends with a grinder, bent where I needed and then welded the score lines. I used the two cross bars to stiffen them even more. They turned out pretty sturdy

I’d really like a pair of scheel Mann seats. They are pricey but very well made and low profile. They have a few models designed for Land Rover series/defender which require thin seats due to space constraints. Prices in the $1k to $2k range so in the end it may be a dream.
Do your research before you dive into the Scheel Mann world. They are nice but I have a friend who has issues and not really sure they are a budget friendly concept.

No product is free of issues...what is more important is how well the company treats you when you require service and help. Price wise they are definitely not the bottom of the spectrum. They are up in the top of the line Recaro range but they do offer a lot of fitment options for those of us who just don't fit in standard sized seats

Corbeau Sport seats... they’re ok... about $1k and they bolt right in. They aren’t going to hold up to the sun for long though. Already starting to see some sun discoloring and they are only a year old. I also have a sweet pair of bimmer seats that I’ve been working on. I was going to sell them but now I’m thinking about keeping them. I found a new switch at the pick and pull last week for one of them and I’m going to weld up my own brackets for them. Who knows maybe after I get them all done up right I’ll sell them as a complete bolt in ready pair.

I scored two vinyl Bestop Trailmax II Pro seats for $100 each.

The driver is new, and the passenger is used.

They bolt right to the stock slider rails using the unthreaded holes on the bottom of the seat. No adapters needed.

They do need some spacers to clear the slider lever bracket and rivets on the stock seat sliders. I used 4 washers per bolt on the passenger side and seven on the driver side. So approx 1/2" & 3/4".

M8x1.25x30mm bolts/ washers and nuts worked great.

Torque to 21 ft. lbs. per the Bestop instructions.

These seat bottom frames are the exact dimensions and bolt hole spacing as the Smittybilt seats (no longer made) that I put in my 40.

These Bestop Trail Max II Pro are comparable in height to the stock seats.
The Bestop side bolsters are even with the stock seat while the seating surface actually sits just a bit below stock.
All in all these are a win win. Greater support, higher back, headrest is farther forward than stock seats.

I'm probably going to order these seats from Bestop and mount them to my existing seat frame. What is the rivet you mentioned? I understand the need for spacers for the seat to be above the track, but just wondering about the rivets.
