It looks like it is a hell of a nice place to wheel. I am so mad I couldn’t go.

It was pricey for the facility and the map was lacking but definitely a cool place to wheel. And wheeling it was .... not just wanderings here. Saw such a small portion of the Park but lots of fun for sure.

Looks incredible. Any 100s? WHat happened to the front passenger fender on the 200? Weird spot for a dent, did it hit a tree?

There was a couple. But not to extremely built or that was hitting the double diamond trails. Another thing to add. With how close the gun range is to the trails if you have a pet or child scared of gun shots this might not be the place for them. There was probably 700 rounds shot every 5 minutes all day long.

There were a good handful of 100's! @CatskillsRunner had hers out there in my group and kept up...mostly. :flipoff2:

The 200 is @DirtNap on Friday morning. We were on a pretty tight, but easy, trail that had a few "gates" (pairs of trees), barely wide enough for a truck but only approachable at angles that were kinda hard to finagle, even for the narrower 80's. He lived, he learned, he still won in the end. The rest of his damage will probably buff out.

He's actually of subject of one of the few funny stories I can repeat in mixed company: He's in the lineup waiting to depart camp Friday morning. I'm walking around and see his truck sitting on 4 completely flat tires. He had started airing down using his new deflators and walked away to take a phone call. Came back to realize he hadn't adjusted the shut off pressure yet! Super nice guy. He'd fit in fine in ONSC. He can correct me, butI wanna say his name is Shawn??? Shaun? Chuan??? Shahn??? Yeah, it's gotta be one of those.

This is wrong. Not 700 every FIVE minutes... You must not have heard the full auto bursts Friday evening!

But it was actually nice at times being able to use the gunshots as a directional reference to help figure out the damned map.

Didn’t hear Friday’s. All I know is there was a crap ton Saturday while going up Death Valley and Pennsyituckian and down Cobra

Sean.

He stopped in for coffee and spent an hour hanging out at the merch tent. Good guy for sure.

Sean was a great guy and very stoic about the damage his 200 sustained.

Any one have pics of my hill debacle?

I've got tons of pics... should have time tonight to post some.

Thank you to all of you Old North Staters who made the journey up to Western Virginia! I think I had the opportunity to meet most, if not all, of you.
I hope the trails and event in general were worth the trip.

This was an amazing event. Simple, clean, and functional. other then the "Map" that the park has the cove was awesome! Thank you @Stumpalama for setting this up, ill defiantly be there next year!

We've got plenty more to do... We plan on getting out to the Cove several more times before next year's Fall Crawl so we will have a better sense of the park and a more accurate map of the trails. Sadly, the map we provided is the best available. Sad, right?
The campground is only open to 4x4's for special events or groups. In the past, they did not want maps of the park because they wanted only guided groups on the trails. They've relaxed on this and we are going to make a concerted to build a better map

I'm betting the lack of a good map is going to dominate a lot of the discussions; it is a valid criticism.
I also hope we can do something about the costs, but in our area we have to pay to play. I especially want to make this event more welcoming for families, but we are negotiating from a less than powerful position. If you are coming solo, the cost is reasonable, it is when you start adding passengers (If someone just coming to hang out in camp, then it is only $20 a day for camping and kids are free for camping) that it gets out of hand.
We will see what we can do.

Yeah, it's like there were a series of firefights on the other side of a ridge. We hadn't been there since they expanded the gun range and it has become very popular more popular.
It was noticeable, but it quicly became background noise for me and I hardly noticed it eventually.

Debacle you say? :)
Debacles leave dents, right @JohnVee
Just a mild moment of necessary planning and action. Glad you got through unscathed and best of all with a smile on your face. Excellent wheeling in the hundred all weekend.

Yes, Sean. Damnit, nobody was supposed to know about the deflators! o_O
Yeah, I had these fancy "J.T. Brooks" deflators with a p.s.i. scale. All set to brag on how smart I was to get them 😂. I actually did set them all to 16 p.s.i, right at the absolute lower limit of the scale. But yep, right as we were about to depart I came back from my call with the HVAC techs at our house to find I was rolling on rims! :bang:. I guess the scale wasn't actually the lower limit!!
The silver lining is that I can now say with confidence that my "Superflow MV-90" compressor is a beast and filled them back up pretty quickly. Thanks to JV for the assist.

Looking at the pics coming in, I think the fender boo-boo actually happened earlier than my, ahem, "test fit" I had previously reported. Am hopeful it won't be too much to pop it out, but I figure it's less than most folks spend on the latest greatest golf club, fancy rifle scope, custom fly rod, etc. So part of the fun budget.

I thought the event was fantastic.
You are probably already thinking about how to do this, but Afgman had a mapping app (Gaia?) running. I wonder if it tracked his routes? Maybe we could use something like that during a future run to make our own map? With some metadata like difficulty level added by driver or copilot. Who knows, maybe we could look at the rate of elevation change as a pointer to really steep trails.
