Hey Mr street tire guy, when are you gonna put "IH8SPDBMPS" on your truck? :flipoff2:

yeah. The guy I got them from said he owned a Toyota shop in Carrollton, he certainly knew his stuff from talking with him. Anyway, claimed to have bought them for "mock up" project that took a turn to 39s so he never mounted these and I'll confirm they didn't look like they'd ever touched the ground.

So what size are the tires you bought?

Sid

OK, I'll give it up. I went 35s but they look pretty good if you ask me. I have room to stuff bigger tires in there but for the trouble and expense I just didn't think it was worth it.

Looks good Ted, can't wait to see that thing wheel in Tracy City

The 35s look great. I wouldn't worry about going any bigger until you consistently NEED bigger. Most in the club stop w 35s, the rest are just compensating. Now that you've got the steering links out of the way you'lre bound to hit something with a tire before you hit any suspension/drivetrain parts.

Verify your stuffage before you go out. Check with the wheels turned to make sure you're not going to cut a sidewall or anything on the wheel wells up front.

Thanks John, good advise. I'd love to go bigger on the tires cause I need all handicapping I can get but I guess the 35s will just have to do for now.

Since I got the truck home I've been knocking out little things. Built a long overdue skid plate, gusseted the ball joints and event started the traction bar. After about 2 hours I came to the conclusion this would be much easier at another house. :flipoff2:

Hope to see ya on the trail sometime.

turned out good ted.

Finally got to put the my truck through a little workout this past weekend during the Pig roast. A few of us scooted over to nearby Durhamtown for a few hours.

The new suspension and axle worked better than I'd ever hoped, I finally have enough articulation to keep tires on the ground, well for the most part anyway, right Sid?

Still, there's a few tweaks that need to be done like cutting off the tops of the U-bolts, installing bump-stops and a handful of additional changes. Also, I have the traction bar built just need to wrap up the mounts and shackle setup hopefully before the Tracy City ride.

a little pic from Durhamtown: Thx Nick and Miranda.

Really wish I had one but apparently I wasn't picture worthy before. This is from last year where the front driver's tire is at full drop as compared to the pic above. ^^^^ that's IFS and 33s where I'm now 35s and SAS

got the traction bar finally mounted and ready yesterday, drove it up on John's rock wall to test and still had all four tires firmly planted so it doesn't appear to bind, I think I'm good to go. I pulled it off today to paint it make some 3/8" longer shackles, the ones I made yesterday were just a tad too short and the heim joint hit the mount. pics of it action later.

Add a brace between the 2 mounts where it mounts to the axle or you WILL bend it. Ask me how I know....

will do, thanks. I'll bite on asking how but ya gotta have pics with the story.

As you can see the span from my middle brace to the end is longer than yours but I did bend the lower arm up before I added the brace. I also elongated the piece of DOM that was the top bushing hole (FJ60 spring bushings). Now I have added a piece of plate around the end of the tube to keep everything in place as well as the brace between the two frame mounts.

OK so there isn't really that good of a story. It never bent to the point that it was unusable but I did have to "rebuild" it after a few serious beatings.

given that we'll be fording some deep water this weekend I figured it was about time to add the diff breather. 4 feet of 5/16" fuel hose and a hose clamp, all done.

Forgot to pickup the fuel filter for the top and it was late so screw it, a little metal window screening will do the job for now. Mounted it to the battery holder, figured this was high enough and besides if water gets in here I probably have bigger issues to worry about.:steer:
