Here are a few more pictures that might excite you all for August. I am now realizing that these are nearly 30 years old! Where does the time go. It’s been fun for sure!

I took a closer look at this creek crossing photo, @CruiserTrash, and it’s not from the same trip as the other pictures. That is actually my Land Cruiser (I know, I’m shocked, too.). I bet that this picture was taken in ‘87. It’s bone stock on tiny tires. Not to scare you but this was an extremely high year (although it doesn’t look too deep in this picture, it’s just fast moving) and the same trip there was a late 80’s Bronco II that was swept down stream. We crossed the river to pull them out. I know this because you can see our water marks on the opposite side of the creek. We were heading back from Silverton and saw the folks as we crossed so we turned around and went back through. They claimed to have hit the river with some serious speed and likely hydroplaned. We crossed the river 4 times that day. The 40 is like an anchor. 😅 Slow and steady wins the race.

I was considering taking Stoney Pass into Silverton and then to Ouray on the way to SAS8 in early August. Is the terrain still such that there's deep water? It's been 20-30 years since that photo has been taken so maybe things have changed. I would hate to get all the way up there, then have to turn around, go to Durango, and come up 550.

I think @Rockymtnreaper was talking about thru-hiking to Stoney Pass from Pagosa Springs so I could give him a ride to Ouray. I really want this plan to work.

This is my plan. If it's deep, @HemiAlex will be voluntold to cross first.

Mama bear ain’t scared.
Ok, so apparently we're all taking Stoney Pass to get to Ouray and picking up a hitchhiking Tucker along the way. Glad this all came together for us. I guess I should install my winch just in case.

I just might join the Stony Pass adventure depending on timing…and if I am welcome ☺️. I still need to pinpoint times that I will be able to be at the cabin.

I agree with Potato Launcher. It’s a beautiful area and it is generally more quiet/remote than the rest of the area. The road is not challenging, either. Just gorgeous. The trail to Heart Lake and Carson City is also amazing, and that would drop you in Lake City.

I've also wanted to check out the La Garita Hills. Coming from Denver we can go over Poncha Pass, hit Saguache and head towards Creede, turning south and finding a spot to camp for the night down that way. Next day get back on the highway, pass Creede, and turn off on Stoney Pass. Maybe camp again on Stoney somewhere. Get in to Ouray Sunday night. Love it when a plan comes together.

Also, if I keep publicly advertising that Tucker is thru-hiking from Pagosa Springs to Stoney pass, he'll be forced to follow through. @Rockymtnreaper if you have any second thoughts now's the time to cancel haha.

Now you are talking. Of course Bachelor Loop is a must, and off of that loop is the Phoenix Falls trail. It is accessible by 4x4 or hiking and it is amazing! My 99 4Runner is plenty for the trail with a 2.5” lift. It is pretty technical, maybe between Black Bear and Poughkeepsie Gultch. Depending when I leave I may want to jump in as well. May have 3 or 4 rigs not sure yet. We were planning on going through BV and tin cup to Pitkin.. Then coming over engineers from lake city to quary. Been a while since I did stoney pass and creede. I saw a article on Bachelors loop that looks cool as hell. It was something I was planing on doing this year.

Stop molesting the trout.

Ugh… I’m not in yet but regardless, I’ll be up there this summer.

I did Imogene with my cousin a few years ago in my tundra following his ready to roll 4Runner. My tundra was not so ready to roll and there was a lot of waiting on his part. Made it, but not comfortably.

Now my 40 is just about ready and I’m itching…

My vote is for the green one.
Mine too. She’s my ultimate sweetheart.
Working on the hardtop currently. Most everything else is ready to go.

How do I become friends with you?
You seem awesome.

Ha! I’ve been trying to figure that one out myself. It will be hot in August. Are you sure you want your top? Now that I say that it will be cold. You never know in Colorado.

I want my top. How else can I trap dust inside my rig? And heat? Also, won’t I miss all my rattles?
