Here’s some history. Basically it was to encourage 40 series owners to get out and meet other 40series owners within 100miles.
On the thread for the baron handoff is usually where they find each other, they pick a destination, meet up and pass on the baton. Photos are taken and the receiver (I believe) buys the giver a meal.
There are at least three batons now, 2 toolboxes and 1 briefcase.
Inside these batons there is a book to sign and memorabilia from the baton’s travels from 40s owners.
We have had it a few times and it has made for some great adventures and meeting new friends!
So here's the idea... originated by
@sggoat, since signed on to by several others:
We will create an FJ40 cross-country expedition--one that has Legs running from North to South, East to West and diagonally across the USA (and maybe Canada and Mexico as well?). This expedition will be of a relay format, with some relay portions completed by individuals, and others by groups. We also hope it becomes ever-green, with legs kicking off from time-to-time in years to come!
Why do this??? Everyone will have their own reasons, but would you agree that this would be an excellent way to...
so with details of
FJ40 Cross-Country Expedition: Will YOU join us???
starting to come together, it looks like multiple batons are going to be in order.
several suggestions from the thread include:
a briefcase, to be stickered upon and filled with local points or pints of interest. and handed off with cloak and dagger like meetings, in broad day light and crowded places.
a broken birfield joint, to be handed off.
an empty tool roll, to be filled with tools as it makes the journey.
there was a go pro mentioned as well, but if there is one, shouldn't each
"baton'' have one to go hand...
