Expedition Overland did a video which talked about installing the larger of the Safari snorkels on a 16' I believe (YouTube), I think a few small mods needed otherwise plug and play.

Greta info. Thank you so much!

Slee tells me they're not sure if they can install it so I'm looking for corroboration/confirmation.

Thanks again!

FWIW I purchased the Dobinson's snorkel for ~$250 for my 2013. It's a Safari knockoff. It worked fine, though I think the 2013+ body must be slightly different than the 2008-2011 because it doesn't quite mount flush against the A pillar.

I suspect the Safari snorkel (or the Dobinson's one) will work fine on the 2016+ LC, if you're OK with it not being perfectly flush with the body near the A-pillar. Unfortunately the only way to determine if it will mount flush is to drill a 4.5" hole in the body, or buy two snorkels and cut off the 4" inlet hole to test-fit.

not sure what this one is but saw it on FB. the person said even though it appears to be parked in front of an arb sign it is not an arb product.

Safari has a late model 16+ application for the VDJ so while it fits the body side perfectly, it needs a bit of massaging for the URJ air of connection. We should see a URJ specific soon.

As always; the people on this forum are awesome and always willing to help... Thank You!

With respect to the fiberglass snorkel; though its aesthetics's are pleasing to the eye, I'm reticent to seriously consider this option.

Again, thank you for taking the time to provide me with valuable information... it's most appreciated!

I'm shipping my LC to Slee in July to have them install a number of items... I'm hoping the snorkel is among the items installed. Thank you for the information. It may help get me the snorkel I like.

This is the above option, appears to be fiberglass, so will need some finishing work and painting. It does look good, I think someone here has it and said it may not flow enough air but I think that was for diesel.

Love the idea of this low profile snorkel, however the link is dead. Does anyone have an updated link to it?

Not sure which engine you have, but I can’t see that low profile model flowing anywhere near enough air for a 3UR V8.

Keep in mind that if it was designed for the twin turbo v8 diesel, that engine makes about 100hp less than a 3UR. And the fact that horsepower is a decent predictor of airflow needs.

Toyota has a factory snorkel for the 200. ToyoDIY lists 53299-60180 as the snorkel part number for a LHD VDJ cruiser. ToyoDIY also says the VDJ & URJ engines use the same 17801 air filter. So, I'm not sure that snorkel size is going to be a big deal between the two engines.

The only thing about the Toyota OEM snorkel is the head on it is ugly. That being said, a Safari snorkel head can easily be swapped. I've not done mine cause $$, and the function is the same, just a different form.

All of that can be explained by toyota seeing incentive in producing less unique parts for a given chassis.

Toyota felt the need for an almost 4” intake pipe going into a 3.5” throttle body on the 3UR. The cross sectional area of that snorkel appears to be nowhere near that amount along the a-pillar, far from the ideal circular shape, and roughly twice as long.

I’m not saying it won’t work. Just that it will reduce available horsepower noticeably.

Also tough to tell from the pictures (of the low profile options), but it doesn't look like there's a good seal from outside piece to the inside piece. Maybe have to silicone the two? Def looks good though.

Filter are different fwiw, we stock both the URJ and VDJ variant. 17801 is simply the parts prefix for all air filters, the last 5 digits are the ones that actually tell you which filter. 38030 vs 51020 in this case.

The 5.7 needs more air, Toyota was concerned about this using their own snorkel application fwiw. Can anyone cite a factory install of the OE snorkel on a 3UR model? I can't say I've ever seen one.

Good point. I'd never thought of it that way before :hmm:

Toyota did it on their "TRD Pro" Sema only release URJ200 Series. I know they were concerned about airflow on that motor in particular but it was a show rig afterall.
